The Lignum Vitae Blossom at the Key West Botanical Gardens.

The tree is at it's most northern range in the Keys. The blossom is the National flower of Jamaica.

The lumber is very dense and will sink and it contains a great deal of oil. The packing boxes for submarine propeller shafts have been made of lignum vitae.
