After about 4 hours of driving and heavy rain at one point we made it to Key West. We did stop at Key Largo for a short break and grab lunch but didn't see anything of interest there.
Among the Key West sights and businesses we drove past on the Conch Tour Train was this colorful postcard-style Key West mural at Cuban Coffee Queen (284 Margaret Street). This would have been the perfect place for a photo stop; but alas, we were on the move and not allowed to disembark until we reached an official tour stop.
For those who don't know, these gypsy bantam chickens were brought to Key West by Cuban and Caribbean Islanders for the purpose of cock fighting. When the island banned cock fighting, all the chickens were "freed" so they roam the lsland. No one is allowed to harm them or feed them. The roosters are quite territorial and they announce their territory by crowing and not just in the morning.
Key West, a U.S. island city, is part of the Florida Keys archipelago. It's also Florida's southernmost point, lying roughly 90 miles north of Cuba. Famed for its pastel-hued, conch-style houses, it’s a cruise-ship stop also accessible from the mainland via the Overseas Highway. It’s known more for its coral reefs – destinations for diving and snorkeling – than for its beaches.
I am here in Key West. Yes, the furthest key of the southern USA.

This key to a lock that has been replaced long since is a remnant of the days when I had keys to my neighbor's houses and several of them had the key to mine. It was a real convenience and seemed reasonable and safe at the time.
I was very glad that my neighbor had a key the time a squirrel chewed through the phone wire and as it was shorting out it called 911. When they emergency operator tried to call me back I didn't answer - because I wasn't there! They sent police, and when I didn't answer the door they started to knock the door down. My neighbor came over with the key and suggested that unlocking it would be faster and less destructive than bashing it in. Thank you, Alan!
These days, at least in my neighborhood, we are all a bit too paranoid to give the neighbors keys, and it is a shame.

The BBC's Maida Vale studios have hosted some of the world's finest musicians, from The Beatles to Dizzee Rascal. In 2009 the BBC celebrated 75 years of Maida Vale. It's also a maze to navigate, & I get lost everytime I'm in the building.
