This is an honest, spontaneous shot after a drive from work to a public park beach near my home. I focused on finding a good scene, composition, and exposure. I took down the exposure 1/3 stop with my in-camera raw processor and exported the jpg to my iPhone. I added some Brilliance and took down the Brightness through the Photos app. I've found that when I edit raw files in Lightroom things tend to look a bit unnatural for my taste. I think I will use this workflow more often because the Apple Brilliance slider seems to do what I would want to do 90% of the time anyways (local instead of global highlight reduction and shadow increase that makes the image pop just a bit more). No tripod was used. Although the picture would have looked better with a carefully positioned tripod, it would have been difficult to do so as I was balancing myself barefoot amongst many of these rocks. I very much appreciate how the optical image stabilization of my lens helped me with this situation. I hope you enjoy! I appreciate any comments and constructive criticisms! Thank you for stopping by!

Still beach after heavy rain, Key Biscayne, Florida

If I ever moved to the beach, I think these sunsets would be the main reason! I am such a night owl that I often sleep in and miss half the sunrises. So, I think I'd probably have to settle on a house that faces towards the west so I could see more sunsets! One great thing about Key Biscayne is that it's such a long narrow island that you get to see both.

With so many nice captures of Sam yesterday late afternoon, as one of my favorite topics to shoot: Dogs in action, I'm having a hard time choosing a couple of pictures to keep posted on Flickr. It was a lot of fun to freeze the action of a few great runs Sam had at the beach, after his beloved new toy for the day: a coconut!

Yesterday I finally had an opportunity to shoot some late afternoon pictures, and I took the opportunity to drive out to my favorite nature's photography spot. I also wanted to check out a nest I photographed previously. That story still to come.

This was one of my last images. I had actually packed up my gear to leave the park when I saw this Heron moving around in one of the ponds. The sun emerged slowly again from behind thick clouds, and the lighting got very interesting. I couldn't resist the temptation of getting a nice photo out the scene I was observing. Fortunately, everything turned out even better. The bird moved into an area under a tree's branch that gave me a great framing possibility with my 400mm lens. The best were those little light spots from the last bit of sun shining trough a tree. Almost sunset light.

The photo was composed in camera. Basically no cropping and nothing added. Just my basic processing. A true Nature's Symphony.

...and Brickell, Shot from Hobie Beach, Virginia Key, FL

Sometimes you get no clouds, other times you get just clouds and then sometimes you get this.

Sunset didn't happen as the clouds completely covered the sky and horizon to the west. Looking north-west from where I was standing it looked a bit different. There was a clear strip of sky right

where the Brickell skyline was and it turned a deep yellow and orange after sunset.

Now connecting back in Miami and on the way to Sarasota. I've never been there before so I am excited. This is a view of the final morning here in Miami (well, Key Biscayne). This is a 3-shot HDR combo of three photos from the Mavic. It was SOOO windy up there but the little machine held up really well.

United States's Serena WIlliams (USA, 8th Ranked) serves to Serbia's Jelena Jankovic (SRB, 4th) during the Sony Ericsson Finals in Key Biscayne, Florida. Williams defeated Jankovic 6-1, 5-7, 6-3.

I spent the weekend discovering some local spots to capture the sunset. I ended up driving around Key Biscayne and found this Marina that has a pretty nice view. It's just to the right after the bridge leaving Hobie Beach. I also discovered another spot but did not have a chance to take some shots so I will be returning to try it out. I also had a chance to visit another great spot in Hollywood Beach close to the Dania Pier (Thank you Serge and Simon) but it was pretty much just a scouting trip.

Yesterday morning I really raced down to Virginia Key on my road-bike to get there in time before sunrise. I had to make up for a few minutes I got delayed. It's a 13 mile stretch from my home and it takes me normally about 40 min. to get there. I made it and it wasn't a leisure ride. The morning looked very promising to take a photo I've tried to take already a few times. Never the right conditions - until yesterday!

Jimbo's was a historic Miami bar that finally closed earlier this year after nearly 60 years in business. It was a very unique place in a unique location. It also served as a filming spot for numerous movies and TV shows. The place is completely gone and all there is left now is this old boat dock and the view. Hard to believe when you are there, especially when you have experienced how it was. A couple of times, in the nineties, I also did and directed photo shoots at this location. It was a unique spot indeed. If interested I guess you can Google about Jimbo's in Virginia Key.

Luznar, the 85-year old owner, opened the famed watering hole and shrimp shack back in 1954, and it quickly became a hot spot for everyone from sailors and beach bums to politicians and movie stars. Over the years Jimbo's served as the backdrop for films, including "Ace Ventura" and "True Lies," and TV shows, including "Flipper," "Miami Vice," "CSI Miami" and "Burn Notice."

A bit later, at the start of the Blue Hour, and moving to the left from "The Little Secret Viewing Spot," I captured this scene with my full frame format camera with basically no further cropping. The main objective, besides capturing the beautiful scene, was to keep the rich palette of colors and also the texture of the rocks used as foreground, hence the use of multiple exposures at f/22, and ISO 50 for extremely low noise.

This final image also resulted from a series of 7 captures from -3 to +3 stops and HDR processing. Additional final detail work in CS6.

With some time to photograph a different topic, other than sports, I decided to check out the beach for a different action. I'm after a nice fishing-pelican photo.

No luck. Instead I ended up with a few other images - like this one. This was a single Great Blue Heron scouting the area. Eventually, the bird was rewarded with a great catch! Too far away from the shore.

An early morning photo of a Tricolored Heron flying low across the canal, into the mangroves, at the end of Crandon's Beach Park.

The diffused background colors, in beautiful color harmony with the low-flying bird, was a bonus and welcomed coincidence.

The Swan Goose (Anser cygnoides) is a rare large goose with a natural breeding range in inland Mongolia, northernmost China, and southeastern Russia. It is migratory and winters mainly in central and eastern China. Vagrant birds are not seldom encountered in Japan and Korea (where it used to winter in numbers when it was more common), and more rarely in Kazakhstan, Laos, coastal Siberia, Taiwan, Thailand and Usbekistan.

This species has been domesticated. Introduced and feral populations of its domestic breeds occur in many places outside its natural range.
