When I awoke I noticed my neighbor was running their sprinklers this morning and I knew I wanted the misty magic in my image somehow. I had to patiently wait until the sun and water cooperated but the wind kept knocking over my bottle. I am sure it was funny to watch me sitting in the sprinklers getting soaked and waiting, moving, recomposing, hitching up my pants, picking up my bottle, pacing. Though not technically perfect in any way I really love so much about it I had to keep it.

I promised to post something closer so you could see the Loons :)

This week I visited the city of The Hague. Though foggy and cold, it has kept its beauty.

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

First shot out of the bag on my return to street photography in Glasgow after 3 years away with severe PTSD and a terrifying period of homelessness. Proving to myself that I still have what it takes - albeit with a hill of confidence to climb.

I had done a little street shooting in Ayr prior to this, and will share some of those in good time, but being back in the big city with camera in hand was a magical feeling.

During my time without my computer I captured 969 photos onto my camera card. It may take some time to edit them all.

Thank you all for your incredible support and care. You have kept me strong through this extremely difficult time and your warm welcome back to Flickr has brought me to tears. My deepest thanks to you.

Take care my Flickr friends and family. It is wonderful to return!

Another long exposure of the London Eye. I kept this one in colour as the clouds had lifted and the sky was a lovely blue.

not because I had the strength,

but because I need to see

what lay beyond the weight of doubt.

I wanted to stop,

to sink into silence,

but something inside whispered -

"You owed yourself more."

So I stayed,

not because it was easy,

but because i deserved to know

what it felt like to rise..

With the line to Caerphilly closed for a weekend possession, an engineering train, its services no longer required, leaves the branch and approaches Cardiff Queen Street en-route back to base.

The working is the 9.00am Cardiff Queen Street - Westbury Down (6A04), in the hands of Freightliner 'Sheds' 66621 and 66592 (tailing). Three other engineering trains remained on the branch, with the possession eventually lifted in time for Monday morning passenger services to resume.

I'd spotted this one on the virtual signal diagram and kept a close eye on it through breakfast for a possible early departure. Thankfully it ran close to schedule so no need to choke on the eggs and bacon and, even better, the clouds played ball too. A nice start to the day given how rare loco-hauled services are just here these days. Best viewed large.

''Winter kept us warm, covering Earth in forgetful snow.''

I kept seeing blackbirds flitting through the garden since the Autumn but they were nervy and flew away at the slightest movement but now they seem to be either more brave or more desperate. I am certainly having more opportunities to get good shots of them amidst the Cotoneaster plant, feasting on its lovely red berries.

At long last I am back on Flickr. A cracking holiday in The States and a huge amount of pre holiday running around have kept me off-line for far too long.

On our holiday we visited three pals who all live in Western Montana. As well as that we incorporated a 2,400 mile drive through Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana.

This first upload captured a regular sight, a white tailed deer taking in some late evening sunshine on my pal, Mike's back lawn. There is a great deal of local wildlife that somehow manages to live amongst the residents of the Rattlesnake Valley. I didn't photograph the black bear (we only managed fleeting glimpses at night time). It made regular appearances whilst searching for apples and fortunately I didn't see the Mountain Lion that turned up and helped itself to a fawn in a neighbours garden.

Killdeer kept tilting his head at me

Thank you for viewing, faving or commenting on my images, have a great day!

I kept on hoping that the Wren would jump on the log, and it did! On the High Meadow, Central Park, New York.

The stranger kept his grip firm on the girls’ necks as they were ushered behind the tavern. In the vacant lot, they gasped—an orb shimmered into existence, pulsing with light. A doorway split open, and a ramp unfurled from its base. The ship loomed above them, massive and radiant in the morning sun.

Once on the foot of the ramp, the stranger finally released them, gesturing silently for the girls to ascend. He led them inside.

Kayla reached out mentally to Adrienne—Jump. But Adrienne couldn’t. Something was blocking her.

“This is… unreal,” Adrienne breathed, her eyes wide with awe. Kayla, equally stunned, took in the vast interior.

The doorway sealed with a hiss.

The man stood before them—tall and unnaturally slender, his skin alabaster, his eyes an icy blue. Hair fine and white as frost. “Please. Sit,” he said, his voice calm, yet edged with command. He lowered himself into a seat across from them.

I do not intend to harm you. I am called K’hall. My people are not native to this Earth, though we have come here and exist in a parallel dimension. We are Arcturian.”

He studied them in silence, his gaze lingering on Kayla before nodding slowly. “You come from a distant time. What are you called?”

“I’m Kayla,” she said. “And this is Adrienne.”

K’hall turned to Adrienne. “You are not of her era. Your soul is young. Many millennia separate you… yet you are kin. And you have arrived at this place together.”

He paused, his tone shifting. “The blood of Ikhon flows through you. Very ancient and from very far away. You are jumpers. I have heard of your kind. Dangerous. You are very dangerous.”

His voice darkened. “Tell me—why were you in the desert last night?”

The girls exchanged a glance, startled. “We were searching for the entrance to the reptilian underground,” Kayla said. “Was it you who destroyed it?”

“Yes,” K’hall replied slowly. “That facility was used to produce chemical weapons. The lizards have been poisoning the air and soil to weaken humanity. But the damage reaches beyond this dimension. It corrupts everything. This we cannot allow. We intercepted their delivery and shut it all down.”

“How did you find us?” Kayla asked.

K’hall’s lips curled faintly. “The devices you carry emit a crude, noisy signal. Easy to track.”

He leaned forward. “Others of your bloodline were taken recently, were they not?” His gaze locked onto Kayla. “But they didn’t survive. Do you know why they hunt you?”

“They want the jumper’s abilities,” Kayla said slowly, sensing he knew more than he let on—or was reading her thoughts.

“Yes,” K’hall said gravely. “They seek your power to breach the veil between dimensions. To conquer us, as they’ve done with humanity here. Other realms would be defenseless. They have tried… but they cannot cross.”

His eyes narrowed. “This is why I cannot allow either of you to fall into their hands.”

Kept a close eye on me, through the thick glass. Amazing to watch and see, so closely. He's quite beautiful. I'm hoping to try this shot again. Never know if they'll be up close or hiding.

I kept on hoping that the Hummingbird would explore the zinnias, and it did! Admired for a while at the Conservatory Gardens, Central Park, New York.

Kept the Thread light balls on a shawl to get the smiley !

Tucked the wires in the folds of the shawl.

This character kept me company for a while during a walk.

It would fly ahead and find a perch such as here on a track sign post and wait there on the lookout. After I had passed, it would fly on to a following suitable perch. This happened several times before it finally flew off deep in to the canopy of a eucalyptus tree.

I hid behind a conifer blind for many hours after finding Currant blooms that seemed to be generating a great deal of Rufous and Anna's attention. Once I was in the blind, the birds visited less and it was a long day with few pictures. I kept shooting even when the light was too direct overhead. I at least got this one.

I've kept a Journal for years … and currently use A5 notebooks with covers of various colours. So I thought I'd play around with the covers a bit!

Happy Sliders Sunday!

A little normality returning after storm Eowyn 😊

My Sliders Sunday set is here: Here

Post-processing set: Here

what little roof we had above us that kept the rain off the wall didnt keep the rain off us, had to deal with constant drips and the cold and to top it off it started snowing wanted to do a little more but i run out of light... next time

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.

I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way

* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.

I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.

This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.

I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwithstanding, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.

RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).

Went to Chain lakes in Alberta for a couple of days and decided to try get a sunset! Had the camera all set up on the tripod when I turned around to see this lady had joined me, albeit very quietly! After my initial shock, I relaxed to take a shot! She was quite calm, kept an eye on me but just had her fill of water and went on her way! Amazing experience!

Classic cars kept in storage - a feast for the eyes in this remarkable and stunning place.

Pillow Cat Prissy cat was sleeping in this chair and moved, the pillow fell on top of her and she just kept sleeping, when I went to take her picture she woke up, shot in North Carolina.

... the wood chip pile — which has this week grown taller than the barn in which Rob's tractors are kept

talking about growing, a tad over 6 months old (wow, that's flown by) Sherman is now way bigger than his mum, and will definitely be bigger than his dad, Simba, before his first birthday.

Supremely calm and assured, he's the only pup that doesn't squabble or play fight for his place in the pack. No need.

...one other thing. Last night I walked into Rob's kitchen to fill up the washing up bowl I use for the adult dogs' water, and Simba — knowing it was food time — began to bark. The empty bowl resonated like a sub-bass speaker in my hand. Sherman's bark is already approaching Simba's which — unfortunately for me ;-) — he reserves for protection of the pack at night when he hears something new from the open door of Rob's Kitchen.

Cemeteries are often kept in pristine condition, and Mountain View illustrates that. Here, lines are created from headstones, and lead to the most brilliantly colored tree. Similar to grammar, the tree stands like a period in a sentence. And, against the green lawn, its rusty color is an eye popping stop.

The weather was a challenge that day. The rain came down in buckets, then would quickly halt. Soon after starting again, making it a fun challenge to get the shot, then race for the safety and warmth of the car.

Went to visit the northern pygmy owl the other day because the light was so much better with no shadow. Unfortunately he wasn't in a cooperative mood and stayed far away. I was hoping for a flight shot so I kept the shutter speed high, In the end he flew away from me to go down into the valley.

here you go Roger. I think you chose the areas to be removed because of the backgrounds that PS generative fill would have to create would be a real challenge. And you were right in assuming that, it took many steps, along with some tweaking manually to wind up with the above. Bottom line, after doing that, I think I prefer the original with the people in it, and the red ribbon

he clouds kept building and we got heavy showers.

I like a good ‘dark alley’ shot. One of our first photography stops of the whole trip was to ‘Art Lane’, a small area with walls covered in art. Unfortunately the area was in darkness and partly covered by scaffolding, so there wasn’t a lot to see at night.

It was nice though to sit and start to take the city in. Looking up at the huge buildings and feeling the relative warmth of the evening (an unusual experience for people from England!) was just what I needed.

I know, I know. Hong Kong, again! I’m not wealthy- I just keep spending all my money on going there. I don’t think they say ‘Fourth Times the Charm’ but this trip was just that - a success. For almost the entire time I kept my mental health issues at bay. It was a good trip. After three disasters - It is really nice to say that.

I kept my distance as it howled like a wolf or coyote! I love its eyeliner! My son's poodle wasn't too happy and the two cats were in the basement! I thought of joining them! Very entertaining and it loved the snow!

Usually kept apart in separate drawers, a ceramic cat knife rest and dog and bone brooch that was found lost in the street.

I kept photographing this fellow who was surf fishing and when this Dalmation appeared from down the beach I felt I had my shot. Those magical, unexpected moments make photography so exciting to me.

Red Deer - Cervus elaphus

In Rut!

The red deer (Cervus elaphus) is one of the largest deer species. The red deer inhabits most of Europe, the Caucasus Mountains region, Asia Minor, Iran, parts of western Asia, and central Asia. It also inhabits the Atlas Mountains region between Morocco and Tunisia in northwestern Africa, being the only species of deer to inhabit Africa. Red deer have been introduced to other areas, including Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada, Peru, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. In many parts of the world, the meat (venison) from red deer is used as a food source.

The red deer is the fourth-largest deer species behind moose, elk and sambar deer. It is a ruminant, eating its food in two stages and having an even number of toes on each hoof, like camels, goats and cattle. European red deer have a relatively long tail compared to their Asian and North American relatives. Subtle differences in appearance are noted between the various subspecies of red deer, primarily in size and antlers, with the smallest being the Corsican red deer found on the islands of Corsica and Sardinia and the largest being the Caspian red deer (or maral) of Asia Minor and the Caucasus Region to the west of the Caspian Sea. The deer of central and western Europe vary greatly in size, with some of the largest deer found in the Carpathian Mountains in Central Europe.Western European red deer, historically, grew to large size given ample food supply (including people's crops), and descendants of introduced populations living in New Zealand and Argentina have grown quite large in both body and antler size. Large red deer stags, like the Caspian red deer or those of the Carpathian Mountains, may rival the wapiti in size. Female red deer are much smaller than their male counterparts.

The European red deer is found in southwestern Asia (Asia Minor and Caucasus regions), North Africa and Europe. The red deer is the largest non-domesticated land mammal still existing in Ireland. The Barbary stag (which resembles the western European red deer) is the only member of the deer family represented in Africa, with the population centred in the northwestern region of the continent in the Atlas Mountains. As of the mid-1990s, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria were the only African countries known to have red deer.

In the Netherlands, a large herd (ca. 3000 animals counted in late 2012) lives in the Oostvaarders Plassen, a nature reserve. Ireland has its own unique subspecies. In France the population is thriving, having multiplied fivefold in the last half-century, increasing from 30,000 in 1970 to approximately 160,000 in 2014. The deer has particularly expanded its footprint into forests at higher altitudes than before. In the UK, indigenous populations occur in Scotland, the Lake District, and the South West of England (principally on Exmoor). Not all of these are of entirely pure bloodlines, as some of these populations have been supplemented with deliberate releases of deer from parks, such as Warnham or Woburn Abbey, in an attempt to increase antler sizes and body weights. The University of Edinburgh found that, in Scotland, there has been extensive hybridisation with the closely related sika deer.

Several other populations have originated either with "carted" deer kept for stag hunts being left out at the end of the hunt, escapes from deer farms, or deliberate releases. Carted deer were kept by stag hunts with no wild red deer in the locality and were normally recaptured after the hunt and used again; although the hunts are called "stag hunts", the Norwich Staghounds only hunted hinds (female red deer), and in 1950, at least eight hinds (some of which may have been pregnant) were known to be at large near Kimberley and West Harling; they formed the basis of a new population based in Thetford Forest in Norfolk. Further substantial red deer herds originated from escapes or deliberate releases in the New Forest, the Peak District, Suffolk, Lancashire, Brecon Beacons, and North Yorkshire, as well as many other smaller populations scattered throughout England and Wales, and they are all generally increasing in numbers and range. A census of deer populations in 2007 and again in 2011 coordinated by the British Deer Society records the red deer as having continued to expand their range in England and Wales since 2000, with expansion most notable in the Midlands and East Anglia.

A swallow pair kept returning to this lookout perch, despite the presence of two photographers. In the background are the out of focus clay cliffs in which they were nesting.

Standing in tall grass for this shot, I came away with half a dozen wood ticks on my clothing, and that has been enough to deter me from subsequent visits. It has been a relatively wet spring, and there seem to be extra ticks hanging out looking for a free meal. I really hate being that meal. And I hate the creepy feeling, mostly imaginary, that persists after finding one or two in places they shouldn't be. Oh, well. They will be a non-factor in a couple more weeks. For some reason, they are only a nuisance in the spring.

Meanwhile, the bird photography continues to be rewarding. More to come.

This humpback kept slapping its tail on the water over and over again! The whale expert on the boat said the whale probably was doing that to stun the fish! Some whales have learned this behavior! It was amazing how loud the noise was when the tail hit the water!

The one that kept eluding me with its short final turns for the last few weeks! Finally got it this morning at Heathrow.
