Sometimes when you're out photographing bugs, there really aren't any to be found. Up here (in Stockholm Sweden) this happens ore frequently than down south when autumn comes aroud.
On this particular trip I came home with just two useable shots - but fortunately this one was not just useable but actually turned out very very nice!
This is a ground wolf spider (Trochosa terricola) and the wet moss and its wonderful green colour gave the shot a nice oomph in my opinion.
Getting loaded with gas and groceries in Weed, California, off Interstate 5, on our way to Hirz Mountain.
Keeper has the ability to walk on top of the 4 foot snowpack. He only weighs about 12 lbs. Woody and I weren't so lucky. We went crashing through like Godzilla.

The old lock keepers cottages. Abandoned and derelict cottages can be found near to the old wet dock in Ipswich Suffolk UK. Hopefully, one day, they might be restored and used as homes. Of the photos that I took at the zoo today, this is my favorite. The rain came on suddenly. It was brief and heavy. Alissa is one of the zookeepers that simply keep doing their job, no matter what nature dishes out.
As part of the Festival of Flowers 2013 internationally acclaimed landscape architect, Craig Pocock, and well-known Nga Puhi artist Darren George combined their talents to create a state of the art, five metre high, installation. The artwork was named Kaitiaki or Keeper to give the people of Christchurch a guardian to watch over them and provide hope for the future of the city.
The site of the work was important in the concept behind The Keeper. Kaitiaki is the Maori word for Keeper and can be seen in the sculpture. This is significant in relation to the roles that the Botanic Gardens and the Canterbury Museum play in our community’s identify and well-being. The other word in the sculpture is Atua the Maori word for God. The significance of this word can be read in relation to the text carved into the façade of the Canterbury Museum, “Lo these are the parts of his ways. but how little a portion is heard of him.” (Job Chap.22 v14.)
The installation has a wooden frame made in sections with irrigation built into the felt-covered base. Holes were cut into the felt to take pots with potting mix and plants. The bottom section was hung first and it
built upwards from there. The Keeper will remain on-site for two years and will be replanted each time the annual beds in the Botanic Gardens are changed.
The former lock keepers' cottages at Bowling were designed by the distinguished Glasgow architect practice's of John Burnet, Son and Campbell and were built in 1896 on the Forth and Clyde canal, the oldest and longest canal in Scotland. Situated on the north side of the canal, they are the only Arts and Crafts lock keepers houses on the canal and were built for the Caledonian Railway Company, which owned the canal at the time. The houses are notable for having some fine Arts and Crafts decorative detailing and they form part of an important group of structures at the western entrance to the canal which includes the locks, the former customs house and the nearby bothy (all separately listed). This retention of their original context emphasises their association with the canal and is an important part of their interest. The houses also represent a time when the canal was developing due to the growth of the railway.

I did not want to make anyone think that I was against the mule rides up to the towns. They all seemed well cared for. I have nothing against them at all, I just felt more like walking than making them haul me back up those stairs. Here is a photo I took of the mule keepers waiting for some clients. I took this on my iPhone looking back up the trail.
I came upon a lighthouse,
at the end of the road,
top of the highlands,
watching the tides come and go,
I looked for a keeper,
but there was none,
only the wind,
the clouds,
the woods and the sun,
I asked the lighthouse if loneliness transpassed here on and on,
he smiled and looked around,
my friends,
my keepers,
he said,
are the wind, the clouds, the woods and the sun...........

While deleting some old photos, I was cleaning out a file labelled "Sort". Thought I'd keep this series. It was taking at a Photo show while testing some different modifiers. I didn't get her name.
Keeper's Pond is a man-made lake in Wales, also known as the Forge Pond or Pen-ffordd-goch Pond, located on the edge of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. Originally built in the 19th century to supply water to the Garnddyrys Forge, it is now a popular spot for outdoor activities like walking and wild swimming, offering scenic views of the Brecon Beacons, particularly the Sugarloaf mountain.

Here, a zookeeper named Sarah offers some maple leaves from a nearby tree to Code, the common eland (taurotragus oryx). Keepers like to build trust with the animals.

St. Augustine Lighthouse is located on the north end of Anastasia Island in Saint Augustine, Florida. Built in 1874 of brick, the Saint Augustine Lighthouse is 163 feet high making it the eighth tallest lighthouse in the United States today. Saint Augustine Lighthouse is run by the non-profit St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum Inc. and is open to the public and visitors can climb the 219 steps to the top for great views from this fun tourist attraction in Northeast Florida.
