Caught this Guy doing what he does best… Made me Smile : )

A bird born to run, the Greater Roadrunner can outrace a human, kill a rattlesnake, and thrive in the harsh landscapes of the Desert Southwest. Roadrunners reach two feet from sturdy bill to white tail tip, with a bushy blue-black crest and mottled plumage that blends well with dusty shrubs. As they run, they hold their lean frames nearly parallel to the ground and rudder with their long tails.

Roadrunners have evolved a range of adaptations to deal with the extremes of desert living. Like seabirds, they secrete a solution of highly concentrated salt through a gland just in front of each eye, which uses less water than excreting it via their kidneys and urinary tract. Moisture-rich prey including mammals and reptiles supply them otherwise-scarce water in their diet. Both chicks and adults flutter the un-feathered area beneath the chin (gular fluttering) to dissipate heat.

Greater Roadrunners eat poisonous prey, including venomous lizards and scorpions, with no ill effect, although they’re careful to swallow horned lizards head-first with the horns pointed away from vital organs. Roadrunners can also kill and eat rattlesnakes, often in tandem with another roadrunner: as one distracts the snake by jumping and flapping, the other sneaks up and pins its head, then bashes the snake against a rock. If it’s is too long to swallow all at once, a roadrunner will walk around with a length of snake still protruding from its bill, swallowing it a little at a time as the snake digests.

Based on banding records, the oldest roadrunner was at least 7 years old.

While in the Falklands my main objective was to photograph birds, time flies and the last day on Sea Lion Island, I realised I had not paid much attention to these Elephant Seal Pups.... I wish I had spent more time with them.... they are really curious … they will come to the shore if they see you laying there and they take the most hilarious poses... a laugh a minute in their company. They are really adorable!

Once upon a time in a far far away land, there lived a beautiful princess who lived on a tree with the royal blue leaves... please insert your story here

.....and they lived happily ever after of course! :D

Macro Mondays #DefiningBeauty

Size of the leaf: 4,7 x 2,6 cm / 1,8 x 1,02 inches

"Everything is beautiful if you look at it with love." Christian Morgenstern (1871-1914), German poet, writer and translator. "Schön ist eigentlich alles, was man mit Liebe betrachtet. Je mehr jemand die Welt liebt, desto schöner wird er sie finden."

Another leaf ;-) Rose hip leaf with rose hips attached - or probably the other way around ;-), plucked during yesterday's Sunday walk at the park. The photos weren't much, as it was very windy, the light wasn't good, and I felt rather uninspired, too, but I took a few rose-hips home, hoping to get at least a decent shot of something. I nearly skipped, it was late, but then I took a closer look at the leaves - and saw this one smile. It is this imperfection created by the dryness and heat of this summer, by age, the leaf's slightly crooked, pointy "nose", the beginning "autumnisation", which make this leaf so beautiful and special. Had it been perfectly fresh and green, it would have been perfectly beautiful. And a rose hip leaf amongst many others. And of course this leaf today is a leaf amongst many others ;-), each single one unique and beautiful in its own right.

Photographed with the Oly's in-camera focus stacking function (it really works very well!), processed in Luminar, (details, micro structure / contrast, foliage enhancer), finishing touches in Nik's Viveza. Please press "Z".

Keep smiling, have a Happy Macro Monday, and a beautiful new week ahead, dear Flickr friends!

Entwickelt in Luminar (u. a. Detailverbesserung, Mikrostruktur, Grünverbesserung) und Niks Viveza. Bitte "Z" drücken.

Ich wünsche Euch eine schöne neue Woche mit hoffentlich vielen Gelegenheiten zum Lächeln ;-)

Shot taken at Chandan Park, Delhi

Its so good to be back!!! Thank you all so much for your mails and wishes :)

Today the roles were reversed...My brother (Bobby) told me he has decided he is only interested in people photography, so pretty much all day I was playing his model, while he was being the hotshot portrait photographer :) This one has been taken by him (Thanks Kiddo, love you loads :) and processed by me...for some reason I felt it had a certain inherent peace that I am feeling right now...

Wishing you all a sweet Sunday and a peaceful next week!!!
