When taking on a documentary project such as the Barbershop Project, there are bound to be locations that end up being stronger than the others. When I was driving down Gay St., smack-dab in downtown Columbus, this little corner barbershop just grabbed me and wouldn't let go! "John Henry Barber & Styling, Your Hair - My Wisdom" Perfect!
John Henry has been barbering for 40+ years, and boy does he have some high-end clients! I waited through two of them to get this one image (I always ask the"sitter"). So, more than the typical 15-20 min. I'll spend assessing the location, light, etc., I had just over an hour to get this shot right. Just before each customer arrived, and just after, John would quickly assume this pose on the barber's chair, laughing it up with tidbits from the same article in his latest issue of Maxim.
This image is now in my Top 5 8x10 images ever! Start to finish, this image was visualized, exposed, processed, and finished in much the same manner as I was trying to communicate. A LF photographer's dream. ^__^

Still alive and well, the Barbershops Project picks back up today, right where it left off!
Today we visit a very neat, simple barbershop on 19th street in the downtown area of Niagara Falls, NY. Pete (left) and Joe (right) have been cutting hair for a combined 80 years of barbering, these guys know their stuff! I was lucky enough to catch them both busy as ever, and chat a little about why I like these older shops so much. After capturing yesterday's image, while starting to tear down the camera, I noticed this delightful little barber chair b/t the two bigger chairs. I tried for nearly 20 minutes to get the composition right, but to no avail. Just when I'd given up hope, Pete Valenti's grandson came in to visit, so we plopped him up in the chair for a "quick trim". He wasn't exactly happy, but I sure was! ^__^

Encontrei esta da imagem acima (viraria um lindo quadro não?) e pensei no que o ato de pintar as unhas significa pra mim:
Pintar as unhas me relaxa, diria sim que é um ato de meditar. Deixa uma parte do corpo linda, mas mexe com a mente e com a alma.
O aprender a cuidar de si também é de suma relevância pra mim. Cada dia aprendo algo novo desde cuidados à novas técnicas de esmaltação ou arte nas unhas.
Creio que hoje os esmaltes viraram um acessório da moda. Pensamos em que esmalte vamos à uma festa ou em um encontro com as amigas.

Here's a new poster straight off the press. This poster was inspired by the classic WWII British propaganda poster 'Keep Calm And Carry On'. Hand silkscreened, 2 colors on French Black Muscletone and Curious Red Skin paper. Embossed and numbered. Available in my Etsy shop.
A limited number of 7 of the black posters and 12 of the red have been shot at the rifle range with a WASR 10/63. The remaining ones were not shot.
