Last week I posted a photo of my beloved Tuscany, where the first lights of the day and the soft tones typical of this region were predominating; this time I want to show you a photo made with a completely different style! The tones and the atmosphere here are much more "wow", but I've been helped by the incredible sunset that I've witnessed in this place! Its name is San Juan de Gatzelugatxe, and it's located in the northern part of Spain; to arrive here, you need to park your car high on the cliff and descend 'till the point were I took this photo, then (as you probably can see) you can reach the abbey on the top of the island by going up again!
Do you recognize this place? Actually, it became famous when one of the most known TV-series was shot here.. I think many of you already know what show I'm talking about!

L'altra settimana ho pubblicato uno scatto dalle tonalità molto delicate, fatto durante le prime luci dell'alba nella mia fantastica Toscana; oggi invece voglio proporvi una foto dalle tonalità molto più "decise" e con un'atmosfera decisamente più "wow", complice anche il fantastico tramonto che ho beccato in questa location nel nord della Spagna, chiamata San Juan de Gatzelugatxe. Per arrivare all'abbazia (la casetta che si vede sulla cima dell'isola) bisogna prima parcheggiare l'auto sulla cima della scogliera e scendere giù nel punto dove ho fatto questo scatto, per poi (come vedete in foto) risalire fino alla cima dell'isola!
Questo posto è diventato popolarissimo dopo che una famosissima serie TV è stata girata qui.. Penso che molti di voi sappiano di che serie sto parlando!
The old Works Progress Administration (WPA) grottos built in the 1920s and 1930s were redesigned to house several large birds including the cinereous vulture and the Andean condor.
A visit to the OKC Zoo just prior to them closing their doors due to cold temperatures and freezing conditions.

The power station ceased generating electricity in 1999.
The kings and the queens of the butterflies had lived for eons in their land of enchantment. The doors to the kingdom had been closed for as long as all could remember. One day a king and queen came to the throne who wondered what it might be like to share all of their joys with whomever was outside of their kingdom. So very hesitantly they went and opened the gates………

Another look at 'Snowdon' loading the 6D37 12.27 departure to Hunslet, the edge of the quarry pit can be seen on the right. With hindsight I should have flown the drone higher to include all of the mining activity here.
So, that's something to be added to the list for our next visit, an event to look forward to as it's a superb branch for photography and twice we have been blessed with poor weather.
We were fortunate the loco on the train (see below), the company shunter 'Cracoe' was out of action waiting for a spare part - it was fixed by the following day. Less lucky with the mucky loco which had been cleaned by next day!
Commentary.
Cranbrook Crossing near Tenterden in Kent.
Started at Bodiam, via Northiam, it was a wonderful, compelling ride through the East Sussex and Kent countryside.
Volunteers restored the line, engines and traditional carriages, with their distinctive green livery.
The chugging of the engine, the clackety-clack of the track,
1930-1950’s level crossings and signal boxes, and the smell of the coal brought back a world from childhood.
Being born in the mid-1950’s a train, for me, will always be steam, never diesel, never electric.
The living, breathing charisma and working parts of a steam engine is still magic, pure magic.
I may be guilty of trying to fit too much into this shot, but there is so much to see!
The flyover was built to provide a 70mph junction between the two lines from London Paddington - the train is on the route via Oxford/Reading and the single track is on the down line via High Wycombe. To the right of the loco is the up loop which the train was supposed to stop in but was slightly ahead of its booked time so continued without having to wait.
On the far left at the top of the image is the meandering River Cherwell which has spilled floodwater into the gap between it and the Oxford canal.
At the top left third a swing bridge can be seen, illustrated below.

Commentary.
Beaulieu is a very unspoiled village in the south-east corner of The New Forest.
Running through it, is the splendid River Beaulieu,
meandering south for 8-9 miles to the sea.
The origins of this settlement don’t start with the village,
but with the nearby Monastery/Abbey,
a ruin since the Dissolution of the Monasteries, by Henry V111.
Started in 1203/04 by King John, it was populated by 30 French Monks.
It became an important Cistercian centre until the 16th. Century.
Indeed, to emphasize its grandeur and importance,
the present Palace House started as a Gatehouse to the Abbey!
Re-designed and extended several times it is now a fine example of a Victorian Stately Manor House.
It still houses the present Lord and Lady Montagu,
whose ancestors have lived on this site since 1538.
In 1952 the 3rd. Baron Montagu created the British National Motor Museum adjacent to the house and Abbey ruins.
He did this in honour of his father who had been a pioneer in the development of cars.
It is now a very popular venue, in its own right.

So with Brandon Routh showing off his mug in that beautiful Kingdom Come Superman suit, it got me all riled up for one of my all time favorite books ever published by DC. I’ve never quite been able to capture Alex Ross’ art style in my builds (and trust me I’ve tried), but this old Patreon Exclusive from last year (that was lost to the chopping block from my GoJ series from TWO years back) was the closest I’d come to mastering that hazy watercolor look.
At any rate, I figured I’d release it from the vault and share it with you because it deserves some love :)
