The Blood Moon rising over the Juno Beach Fishing Pier on September 2015. Composite image from 2 different shots for clarity. Photo processed in Photoshop and Lightroom.
A longish exposure, just enough to keep some texture and show the movement. In this case a 1 second shutter speed.

There is this great free software which will help you plan your sunrise, sunset, & moonrise locations for the best shots on any given day. I'm lovin' it!
The day after hurricane Irma. In my seaside neighborhood, still extremely windy and debris everywhere, many huge trees were knocked down and blocking the roads. Amazingly we didn't see any that landed on a house, they all seemed to fall into the street. We were among the 16 million people in Florida left without power. With no power, no phones, traffic lights not working, schools and businesses closed, people were urged to stay off the roads and stay home. Irma was such a huge and slow moving storm that we had a full 24 hours of hurricane conditions and we needed to get out of the house. We walked to the beach as that seemed like the only place to go.
The beach was technically closed as well as the pier but that didn't stop some people from getting onto the pier or trying to surf. The two seated men are not checking out beach babes, they are watching to see if a couple of surfers are bold enough to go in. Most of the surfers I saw, checked the conditions and decided not to enter the churning sea.
The friendly chatter at the beach was all about Irma. People shared stories about what the storm did to houses, who had power, who had phone service, who didn't and the question of the morning was: where did you get that coffee? It turns out the lucky coffee drinkers had a generator. It wasn't me.
Seventeen thousand power company workers were borrowed from 30 states to help Florida get the power back on. They were here before Irma even arrived ready to work. We were lucky to get our power back on after a day, though many are still without. Now the cleanup begins.

This morning, monster waves still reminding us of Hurricane Sandy's visit. Highest tide was at 4am but I do my best sleeping at 4am so possibly missed some even bigger waves than this. With all my friends and family in the Northeast this storm is all I can think about. We are fine here but I can't even reach some of my family in NYC and Long Island. their phone lines are out, power is out and cell phone batteries only last so long withou a charge. Be well all.
On a humorous note: The end of the pier sustained damages that are being repaired today, pieces of railing knocked off by the battering waves. The pier is closed to the public, that's the repair crew out there but it looks like they are fishing not fixing.

This is the Juno pier It was opened 1999. Its 990 feet long You can catch snapper, snook, Pomapano, Cobia, Blue Runners, Bonita, Craokers, and Maceral.
Hurricane Sandy ~ A fairly dry storm we did not get much rain in south Florida but strong winds and much higher tides. The pier is closed due to waves averaging thirteen feet. Waves washing over the sides can easily knock people around or even into the sea. This is the first photo of this pier that I've taken, during the daylight hours, with not a single soul on it. It's so odd to have such beautiful skies with howling winds and raging seas. Good luck to all still in Sandy's path.

captainkimo.com/moon-rise-at-juno-beach-fishing-pier/
I missed the full moon rise yesterday because of the heavy cloud coverage that was hovering over Palm Beach County. Today was just as bad but I went to Juno Pier anyways to take a peak. Sure enough... the clouds were just as thick, but there were small openings that allowed the moon to shine for just a brief moment.

Trying to get the color right for this morning's sunrise.
Thank you for the Noteworthy Award, Photo Friday

I was setting up for this shot and all of a sudden this surfer ran into the picture and just stood there looking for the perfect wave. It allowed me to get the perfect shot!

Sorry for so many surfing shots. I promised some kids on the pier that I would post the photos for them.
Juno Surfers: If you send me the names of the surfers you see, I'll tag the photo with their name.
Partial solar eclipse on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, cloud cover made it hard to see the moon 36% over the on the lower left side.
Went out to the Juno Beach Pier to shoot this in preparation for the Full Pink Moon. It almost looks pinkish here.

There is a Full Moon Rise today so I thought I would post something for the occasion. This was taken last month at the Juno Beach Fishing Pier. Hopefully the weather cooperates for a Full Moon shoot later today. I wanted to photograph it last night but it would have been a waste of time considering all the clouds. I'm hoping today will be a little better.
