The jumping spider family (Salticidae) contains more than 500 described genera and over 5,000 species, making it the largest family of spiders with about 13% of all species (Peng et al., 2002). Jumping spiders have good vision and use it for hunting and navigating. They are capable of jumping from place to place, secured by a silk tether. Both their book lungs and the tracheal system are well-developed, as they depend on both systems (bimodal breathing).

Elle était vraiment toute petite ( environ 3 mm de long) et très bien camouflée au milieu des lichens.

Our turkeys have figured out how to get sunflowers from our bird feeders. They look up, do a little dance with their feet and jump! :)

The limit I set for myself was to convey joy and involve jumping. I encountered struggles with the studio lighting and motion blur. In order to overcome this, I worked to practice and do lots of trial and error. I gained lots of lighting skills and the skills needed to work with models and make them feel comfortable.

Finally found one to photograph - not so common in our area.

Jumping spiders contain over 5,000 species making Salticidae the largest of the spider families. Jumping spiders have some of the best vision among arthropods and use it in courtship, hunting, and navigation. Although they normally move unobtrusively and fairly slowly, most species are capable of very agile jumps, notably when hunting, but sometimes in response to sudden threats.

The jumping spiders are aptly named as they can spring more than 50 times their own body length to land on unsuspecting prey. Both their book lungs and the tracheal system are well developed, and they use both systems (bimodal breathing).

Jumping spiders are generally recognized by their eye pattern. All jumping spiders have four pairs of eyes with one pair being their particularly large anterior median eyes.

We had planned on taking numerous jumping photos throughout the trip. Sadly, this is the only one we actually took. Next time!
