We were having a bit of fun at the CoPA Gallery. My cannonball leap was a blast but the landing sucked! Ken making the monkey jump really makes this shot! Thanks to Coree for capturing this one for us!
I wanted this to be an educational jump and hopefully that isn't an oxymoron. This is US Highway 89 through Thistle Canyon and 28 years ago it was 80 to 100' under water. The thing that has surprised me is the how fast the body of water changed the land and vegetation. The lake was large but the state managed to drain it within about 6 months. The dam holding it back was deemed unstable because it was created by a mudslide. I'm not saying Mother Nature isn't a good engineer, but there was no spillway or strong foundation to the dam.
You can clearly see the line along the hill sides where the water was even today, and other than summer grasses no vegetation has filled in below it. So when you hear it takes millions of years for water to change terrain, don't believe it!

A macro shot of a small jumping spider, as my only lens that I have is a kit lens (can't afford anything else at the moment) I had to detach the lens and turn it around and hold it to the camera body and hold the aperture open with my finger in order to get this shot... it was tricky

It's come to taking photographs on live railway tracks. Sadly it was full moon so the sky is just blown out - expect more from this location...as long as I don't get hit by a train next time.
