We woke up in the dark to observe a Bulgarian tradition of vague origins: watching the sun rise on July 1. Our Bulgarian friends described its origins as "hippies getting together on the beach to talk politics" during communism, and it seems to have taken its name from this groovy 1971 Uriah Heep song, which I'll admit I had never heard before. Near Eho Hut, Kom-Emine, Bulgaria.
