The Joshua trees near Pioneertown have been burned and are now all blotchy black and white.

Marie can really hoop.

The water inside Bakers dam was stagnant so did not look clean but it had lot of photo opportunity. Also it was nice to find a water body inside the desert.

at the Joshua Tree Dessert, CA

I spent a few days at a conference in Palm Desert this week. Late one afternoon I slipped out the back and played hooky on the last couple of presentations of the day to run to Joshua Tree National Park. I picked the first pullout that looked interesting, made a few photos and dashed back in time for the banquet. I definitley need to spend more time here.

Barker Dam, also known as the Big Horn Dam, is a water-storage facility located in Joshua Tree National Park in California. The dam was constructed by early cattlemen, including C.O. Barker in 1900. It was raised in 1949 by rancher William F. Keys. It is situated between Queen Valley and the Wonderland of Rocks near the Wall Street Mill. It is a gathering place for desert wildlife, including many species of birds and Desert Bighorn Sheep. Visitors can reach the dam via a short trail from a nearby parking lot and can see Native American petroglyphs a short distance to the west. There is also good bouldering on side trails near the dam.

Helping out at Teacher Catherine's middle school drama! It was a family affair.
