The Skull Rock formation in the Jumbo Rocks area hosts in the Mojave desert in Joshua Tree National park.
Climbing at Joshua Tree the Dec 21-22. We climbed at Echo Cove and.... Lauren and Nate had a really hard time setting up the top-rope at Echo Cove.
(Joshua Tree National Park, California) - A weird rock formation in Joshua Tree NP. I should have spent some more time shooting this cool eye-like structure. Maybe experimenting with some light painting would have been cool.
So, we found this on the desert. Feels like rubber, but is it part of a Joshua Tree, or at least we think so. Any biologists out there?
One of the "trails" we tried follow had this 10ft overhang in a deepish canyon. I carried our packs up and around it, scrambling on loose gravel on the sides on the way up, but then when we later came down (because it lead us about 4/10 of a grid coordinate off of where the "trail" was on the map) I didn't feel like carrying our packs. So we pulled out the rope, and improvised a simple pulley. The rope is secured on one end, loops around the pack, then goes around a sharp rock on the other side. The friction between the rope and the rock did most of the work, and we were able to lower our packs with relative ease.
