I felt like society would never give me another chance because I had a violent criminal background. I made some terrible choices in my past, and I just didn’t know how to overcome those challenges when dealing with employers or society. It was difficult for me to find the resources to improve myself, my self-esteem as well as my confidence within myself. When I left prison, I knew it was going to be a journey — I just didn’t know where to start.
I found out about Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina’s program through the Darryl Hunt Project for Freedom and Justice. I took a week-long job readiness class. After the class, I started my job search, and it was 9-to-5 every day. I was on foot, of course, and I started at one end of a street and I finished on another.
Luckily, a job posting came open as a machine operator at Carolina Fabric four or five weeks after I finished the job readiness class. I obtained the job; it was only minimum wage at the time, but I went into the job with an attitude of gratitude.
In the past year and a half, I’ve been going to night school for welding, as I aspire to be certified welding inspector.
I would tell people looking for a job that you should never judge what you’ve done in the past. The first step is to forgive yourself — because if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will.

My journey started with handshakes and smiles from two ladies, Clarice and Diane. I was led into a room with just a table, chair and telephone. What I didn’t know was that the telephone was going to be the tool of my trade at Goodwill Industries of Tulsa (OK).
So what is the result of all these phone calls? Well, for one thing we met our quota for the month of September and then some. But is it really about numbers? No. It’s about helping people and changing lives that matters.
Having lunch with Diane, Paul and Greta every day was the high point of my day — there was always joy and laughter around the lunch table. But the biggest gift I received was knowing I made a difference in someone’s life — to hear the joy in a person’s voice when I told them, “Come in and get a $35 clothing voucher for your new job,” or to have someone stop by your desk and say, “thank you,” with a smile on their face.
I never can say thank you enough to the people at Goodwill® for showing me how to really care about someone else’s life. It was and always will be a positive and life changing part of my life.

I have completed Jobcentre request, another format, without photo, however, im going to continue apply jobs with CV with my photo on it.
Please note, i was approached my law enforcement officer bobby/undercover in north, north midlands and south!, former employers and employees in london did same thing, stating that i was here in Britain on visa, then they took my money away, destroyed my career and made me homeless. Now, do you understand, reason for me, (only me) to have photo on my cv, because everyone needs to know what i look like, also, i am not arab, sha, white, jew, indian, turk, sek, black, chinese. Without offending anyone out there. Now you know, be careful whom you are talking to, shaking hands with (i don't like to shake hands, sensitive hands) also, be careful who you let into the property, unless they wearing Halloween costume. Thats humor if you understand!!!.
