Due possibili destinazioni, tra di esse: incertezze, perplessità e centinaia di ragionamenti.

Two possible destinations, between them: uncertainty, bafflements and hundreds of mental constructions.

As a consequence of this.

Wouldn’t be awesome to “twist” a little knob and magically wind up the economy and the job market? I whish was that simple…

“Twist”

This is what I feel like sometimes when I get online and search for jobs. It's like you're looking for jobs in a "tough" environment, unfamiliar territory if you will. It's hard out here for a young engineer, lol!

I've been staying home and studying for days for my exit exam. I needed to get out of the house, get on the roof or do something.

Inevitable Question 19e:

What did your previous employer think of you?

My last boss often told me that my IQ was much, MUCH bigger than my boobs!!

I've been out of work for a while, and I'm not real sure what I want to do next, career-wise. Wednesday morning I had an interview, and it looks somewhat promising. Whether I get the position or not, at least I was able to meet some interesting people and learn about a new company. It was a very positive experience!

BTW, one of my weird traits: I LOVE to go on job interviews!

A boring Saturday afternoon, stuck indoors while the Mrs is out at the shops what does a bored Blue Boy do? Well I thought I'll waste the afternoon on this dificult and demanding technique that is the capture of water droplets landing on a still surface. All the while I've been led to believe that this is difficult.

I've just been reading Real World Image Sharpening, by (the late) Bruce Fraser. I wanted some "nothing " shots that I could manipulate to destruction. Also they had to be "high frequency" i.e. lots gonig on in the tones and channels. I also wanted something that had lots of edges.

Plus I was bored. So I came up with these. The thing is all down to sharpening. Before I always sharpened after I'd done everything else. This I thought was correct. Not so! Having been given a pointer here, I now presharpen, then apply creative sharpening before finally sharpening for output. All this is done through masks, channels and layers. The reverse is done to reduce noise in the image.

The photograph was taken using a clear pyrex dish filled to the brim in the sink sitting on a towel with a picture of a tiger on it. I used on camere flash. The rest is in the EXIF. It was very easy.

I am so very sorry that I haven't gotten to your streams much during the past week. I've been working like a maniac trying to get our house ready to sell. Read on for an update...

NEWS ON THE JOB SEARCH:

Many of you know that my husband was working for Circuit City here in Richmond, VA and lost his job in mid-January. We really love our house, the schools, and this area in general, and had hoped to stay here. However, with such intense competition for local jobs, we've been looking elsewhere too.

Anyway, the good news is that my husband was offered two different jobs last week. The first was local, but at only 50% of the salary he used to make, we'd be forced to sell our home. The second job is in Harrisonburg, VA, which is a 2 1/2 hour drive from here, into the mountains of Virginia. The salary there isn't great either, but it was a bit more than the local job. The company, Rosetta Stone, seems to offer good benefits, a nice work environment, a bonus program, and room to grow and move up. Also, the location is a huge PLUS, as it's very close to Shenandoah National Park.

So, we accepted the job offer in Harrisonburg. My husband starts Monday! Rosetta Stone will provide temporary housing for him there until we can all move out there and find a home. For now, our house is up for sale and my husband will be coming home on weekends. I know this situation is not ideal, but we have high hopes the house will sell and we will be together in Harrisonburg before too long.

Because of the poor housing market, we've priced the house quite low, based on what has sold in our neighborhood recently. It's a beautiful house with 5 bedrooms and an office, a full unfinished basement and two car garage, set on the edge of a lake. Wish us luck!!

here's hoping I have better luck finding a job when I'm 24..

UPDATE: HAVE A LOAN OFFER! Still appreciate any help, small or large, to kofchicago at Venmo or CashApp or PayPal.

This is a tough confession, but I have until 1/26, Thursday morning, to finish raising money (about $1300 more) to save everything I left behind in Chicago after a traumatic move from my beloved city of 27 years in late 2022. I haven't been personal on this account in ages, so I’ll just say the last few years have been a mess of cancer, dementia, and the pandemic affecting my family, eviction, and long-standing mental health issues causing an embarrassing difficulty in my getting it together and being a normal, functioning adult, frankly.

So I had to flee a bad situation and move back to my Iowa hometown to help my family with cleaning and dementia caretaking. This involved giving away, selling, or moving massive amounts of stuff. A lot of it is in storage in Chicago—I do hope to come back eventually. I’m jobsearching in Iowa and not spending much money at all (barely had a Christmas, no travel since 2019), but I’ve fallen behind on bills on a larger space and risk losing all of it, even the smaller space I can pay for (there’s my amazing Chicago book collection, record collection, DECADES of my artwork, $1000s in vintage clothes and Barbies I didn’t have time to sell before leaving, my great bicycle, etc.) if I don’t finish borrowing or raising money THIS WEEK. I never asked on this account for help in moving and storing my stuff—I did elsewhere on social media—so I thought I’d give it a try. I mean if everyone who ever liked anything here kicked in just the cost of one beer…or if anyone is able to help at a higher level, you’d truly be a lifesaver.

My last few months in Chicago were marked by a lot of great times and excellent help from friends, but a lot of pain and stress as well. I definitely overdid it at local bars (too many drinks people bought me, I wasn’t fundraising for booze, let me be clear!) and that’s a hard thing to admit online where I sometimes promote bars and beer and cocktails and such. I haven't said it anywhere, actually. (Whew, looking forward to affording a therapist when I work again...) Anyway, thank you for reading.

kofchicago at Venmo & CashApp if you can help out!

I can't figure out how to change dates on a post now (to bump it to new), so apologies in advance if I keep reposting this...

Taken on the same night as Hendrix. I couldn't get the right angle as there were cars in the way, so I've had to fuck about, stitch two together, and pull it about a bit using transform. I've given it some "pop in shop" I apologose for the tags but i'ts such a bloody chore that I have a document saved, so I just copy, paste.

Taking in beautiful weather on my 27th birthday, I made lunch plans with a friend. As I was walking towards to meet said friend, I stopped at the crosswalk waiting for traffic to clear as to pass safely. When suddenly a voice spoke to me, asking me in I was getting any good photos. A common question, especially given away by the fact that I had the camera around my neck. I smiled, looking over at the man next to me: cane in one hand and paperwork tucked underneath the other.

I expressed that I had only just began the days adventure, hoping to find the usual subject matter (places, things, and most importantly PEOPLE) that represent Madison to me. I introduced myself as Chris, a local photographer of all things Madison. Extending a free hand while keeping all his belongings in order, the man told me his name was Leon. Recently transplanted to Madison from Chicago, he came to the isthmus to better himself and help others. Unfortunately, being homeless upon arrival (as well as when he left Chicago) doesn't help his cause in the search for work. In his younger days he worked as a professional seamster (male seamstress). But as many jobs are taken overseas that line of work folded, and so did his source of income.

After he told me that he was born in Mississippi I became curious, as a man of his age (not 100% sure on it exactly) growing up during the civil rights movements. I asked if he still saw segregation in today's age, as a positive person he informed me that he tries to not pay attention to such things. "Treat others the way you wish to be treated." he told me and obvious we all can get along. After this I asked him I would be so honored to snap his photo for my project of 100 more strangers, at first he was shy asking if I was going to give the photo to the police dept. While I couldn't give a promise that the police may stumble upon his photo, I gave him my word there was nothing to fear to the extent of me giving the photo away.

Still a little hesitant, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and scrolled through at least a dozen images that I've saved to my phone as a real time portfolio. Once he saw the photos, his eyes lit up and he was more then happy to let me take his photo. Quickly adjusting my settings to work with the harsh sun overhead, we moved to the front of a pile of mattresses. While it's not the most fitting background, after I clicked a few shots and shared them with Leon a smile grew on his face. He expressed to me that he felt he looked "distinguished," as in my opinion I agreed kindheartedly. I knew then that I had my photo to include in the 100 Strangers group as well as my strangers project. I gave Leon $2.00 so that he could hop on the bus and head to Fitchburg to hopefully line up work. I wished him the best, and told him not to be a stranger anymore.
