Plockton Village, the jewel of Scotland on the shores of beautiful Loch Carron.

The first three days of our trip we had a wonderful sunny time this unusual for Scotland.

It's being slowly overtaken by vegetation, and no one is sure what the official management plan is. We were lucky to see a beautiful Great Egret circling overhead before settling in a large tree.

Jewels of rain, drip, dripping from the branches of the Japanese Maple in the early morning after a long night of soft rain.

Biology

The Green Jewel Bug forms non-feeding clusters during hot dry periods especially along creeks, spreading out to feed on many plants from ferns and figs to Lantana when conditions improve. It occurs in tropical and subtropical Australia, extending as far south as Wollongong in New South Wales.

Identification

Length 9 to 14 mm. The Green Jewel Bug is extremely variable in coloration, ranging from metallic green to purplish-blue. Some specimens have an orange stripe across the shield-like scutellum.

Equally as lovely as Mills Lake in RMNP is a smaller lake just a half mile farther up, Jewel Lake. It's a great little resting spot after the nearly 900 feet climb and 3.1 miles up.

Have a great weekend!!!

The Banded Demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) is a beautiful damselfly belonging to the Calopterygidae family. Their habitats are slow flowing streams and small rivers. They occur in most parts of Europe except Scandinavia as well as in Asia as far east as north western China.

...Imagination’s jewel emerges seizing

my imagination—brainwaves of waterwaves

turquoise upon indigo, aqua upon seamills of my mind, mindstroke

seastroke… to the glittering saintencrusted piazzas

breaststroke… reststroke. plunge and risebreathe.

lungsburst, heartfelt

home, the Republic’s pureform—where nothing is—

until I find lions and ocelots in mosaics

and in fretworks worrynots of pink palaces and mahogany violins...

Venezia, approaching Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy

With the world officially turned upside down in 2020, what we assign value to seems to be up for new consideration. I'd argue that we're missing the opportunity that is wrapped up in so much disorder if we don't take a step back from the upheaval to ask ourselves which things we want to pick back up and which to let go.

I'll continue to cling to the jewels in this scene--the scrub grass and sunflowers, the magestic pine, planets like Jupiter (image center) and our majestic Milky Way.

The planets the galaxy, and the universe are too big for my choices to make any difference. Alone, my actions won't even make a difference to objects in the foreground of this image. Combined with several billion of my fellow homo sapiens, absolutely we'll make a difference. To get there, we'll have to discard ideas of those who say we can't make a difference and those who coopt sacred texts to argue that we need not bother.

So often the idea of dominion over creation from my own Judeo-Christian tradition is taught as though dominion is given without responsibility--"I can do what I want with it!" What a sad conclusion and perspective. And one I hope we can see through and beyond with all that has been disrupted this year.

May you have moments of peace in the turmoil of 2020. And may it support growth that will help us all be better in the days, weeks, and years to come.

Peace and cheers!

Another one of the pics I took the other day...This is just a wild bush..The thorns are covered by spider webs and drops of water...I tried to focus just on the drops, and this was the result...Sometimes it is not difficult to find a jewel in a magical forest...

I am not sure what this plant is but it has the most amazing fan like leaves which catch the rain beautifully :)

One of the jewels of the Ozark's, the St Francis River cuts it way though the grinding granite at Tiemann Shut-Ins in Madison County. Its always a pleasure for me to sit and watch the water cascade through these burly boulders. Perfect pines protruding from the opposite bank, sloping down to meet the current in the future. They take my hand like a field guide and lead me to the sweet spot in the stream.
