Do you know you can find jewels in the grass? Be careful, because their guard is always around!! You can see him too on this image. Just a straight out of the camera shot. I was surprised that he showed himself. Probably he was afraid I would take more than a photo ;-))
In the mid-day sunlight yesterday these little bees enjoyed this very small variety of aster 'Autumn Jewels Sapphire'.

I was going to post this on Saturday for the Smile on Saturday theme of Gemstones. Noticed a lot of selective colour pink in people’s photostreams that led me to the looking close on Friday challenge of selective colour pink. Big coincidence and a chance for a twofer (or three as this could go in MacroMondays numeral theme).
This is as close in as I can get I think, had some new extension tubes delivered in the week for a little extra boost! I put a small torch behind the watch part to bring out the colour of the jewels.
Thanks for visit, comments and awards

These shiny beetles live on rotting wood which is a rather unglamorous living for such a good looking creature. This one caught my eye as I was using the swimming pool at our villa outside Chiang Mai
Sternocera aequisignata is a species of jewel beetles belonging to the subfamily Julodinae. Its bright metallic green elytra are frequently used jewellery making.
Jewel Changi Airport (also known as Jewel or Jewel Changi) is a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex surrounded by and linked to one of the passenger terminals of Changi Airport, Singapore. Its centrepiece is the world's tallest indoor waterfall, the Rain Vortex, that is surrounded by a terraced forest setting.
As pointed out by my Flickr friend Leon, the droplets below the leaf are held in a spiders web. It is a stunning miracle of nature.
Thanks for visiting.
You take care out there....
Seen in the costal town of Llanes in Northern Spain (Asturias Province)
A house that can certainly tell stories from its past. What a pity that it was abandoned. Llanes is a popular vacation spot and certainly was in the last century, a time from which this villa dates.
This aptly named Jewel belongs to the syrphid (hoverfly) family. Here it is sipping nectar from Cabbage Palm flowers, but they are also found on carcasses. These flies are nearly the size of a bumlebee or a scarab beetle.
Common Pauraques can be seen at Estero Llano Grande State Park as long as you know exactly where to look. Even then, they are so well camouflaged you might step on one before your eye can pick it out from the background leaf litter.

Jewel spider, (a species of Orb weavers).
Aka: Christmas spider, Christmas jewel spider, Australian jewel spider
Scientific name: Austracantha minax
This caught my eye while exploring a local woodland at dawn this week.
Thanks for all your kind comments and support. I hope you are enjoying the autumn colours if you have them in your part of the world.

Sternocera aequisignata
Buprestidae is a family of beetles known as jewel beetles or metallic wood-boring beetles because of their glossy iridescent colors. The family is among the largest of the beetles, with some 15,000 species known in 450 genera. In addition, almost 100 fossil species have been described.
It was common in some of the ancient cultures of Asia to attach beetlewing pieces as an adornment to paintings, textiles and jewelry. Different species of metallic wood-boring beetle wings were used depending on the region, but traditionally the most valued were those from beetles belonging to genus Sternocera. Their wings were valued for their beautiful and hardy metallic emerald iridescence. The shiny appearance of beetle wings is long-lasting. They are surprisingly durable if subject to normal non-abusive use.
