Steve and I visited Indonesia for the first time in May 2018 for ten days. We made stops in Jakarta and Yogyakarta (both in Java) and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara/ Flores. We saw friends from graduate school, and visited mosques, cathedrals, and ancient temples. We swam with fishes, manta rays, and even baby sharks. We saw amazing sunrises and endlessly beautiful sunsets. Indonesia is a generous, wonderful, and stunningly gorgeous place, and we will be glad to visit again sometime soon.
Java needs a home!

I've seen the sun rise twice on Java, once at Borobudur, and here at the Penanjakan Viewpoint near Mount Bromo. Just after the sun pops over the horizon, the rising mist gives the whole landscape an indescribable ethereal quality. I wish I had some skill with oil on canvas!
