Nombre y leyenda

El nombre "Tangkuban Perahu" significa "canoa volteada". El monte está estrechamente relacionado con la leyenda de Sangkuriang, que cuenta la historia de un joven que, sin saberlo, se enamoró de su propia madre, Dayang Sumbi. Cuando ella descubrió la verdad, rechazó la propuesta de matrimonio de Sangkuriang imponiéndole una condición: debía construir una canoa en una sola noche. Al no lograrlo antes del amanecer, Sangkuriang enfureció y dio una patada a la canoa, que quedó volteada y se convirtió en el monte Tangkuban Perahu.

Geografía

Tiene una altura de aproximadamente 2.084 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Posee varios cráteres grandes, como el Kawah Ratu, Kawah Domas y Kawah Upas, que son atractivos turísticos.

Borobudur (auch Borobodur) ist eine der größten buddhistischen Tempelanlagen Südostasiens.

Die kolossale Pyramide befindet sich rund 25 Kilometer nordwestlich von Yogyakarta auf der Insel Java in Indonesien. Borobudur wurde 1991 von der UNESCO als Weltkulturerbe anerkannt. Sie gilt als das bedeutendste Bauwerk des Mahayana-Buddhismus auf Java.

Gebaut wurde der Stupa vermutlich zwischen 750 und 850 während der Herrschaft der Sailendra-Dynastie. Als sich das Machtzentrum Javas im 10. und 11. Jahrhundert nach Osten verlagerte (vielleicht auch in Verbindung mit dem Ausbruch des Merapi 1006), geriet die Anlage in Vergessenheit und wurde von vulkanischer Asche und wuchernder Vegetation begraben. 1814 wurde sie wiederentdeckt; im Jahr 1835 brachten Europäer sie wieder ans Tageslicht. Ein Restaurierungsprogramm von 1973 bis 1983 brachte große Teile der Anlage wieder zu früherem Glanz.

Borobudur, or Barabudur (Indonesian: Candi Borobudur, Candhi Barabudhur) is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia, and the world's largest Buddhist temple. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa.

Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The temple demonstrates the influences of Gupta art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian.The monument is a shrine to the Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage.

Ok so story time....

I titled this shot Java Alley because it is right next to Theo's Java Club. Which is my favorite coffee shop in my home town. What a boring story right? Well that's not really the story. No one I know actually calls this Java Alley. No we call it "The Piss Alley". You see that wet stain on the concrete? That's a perpetual state.

This little alley and said coffee shop are part of the local entertainment district. We call it "The District" Clever huh? There are a lot of bars in The District" And if stand around this spot at 3ish in the morning you'll get to see some one peeing there. If it's a Saturday night and you're real lucky you might get to see a couple of assholes fighting for the right to pee there.

That's it that's my story. One day when I get a better camera that can handle night shooting better I'm going to go back home and take a series of shots of this alley living up to it's name. Look for it.
