Harry's foot. Harry and his sister Millie were both rescue cats.
Not all animals are so lucky; abandoned by fickle and uncaring humans because of illness, injury or simply because they've lost their infant cuteness, there are hundreds of cats and dogs and other creatures desperate for our help.
The RSPCA do amazing things - they save animals every day from a meaningless life, from a painful life.
One of their key campaigns is the Five Freedoms.
Freedom from hunger and thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.
Freedom from discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
Freedom from pain, injury or disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
Freedom to express normal behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.
Freedom from fear and distress - by ensuring conditions and care which avoid mental suffering.
So, for the pets who were given as Christmas gifts and are not wanted a month on; for the garden birds who've suffered in the cold weather; for the battery hens and mutilated seals; for intensively farmed puppies and kittens beaten and left for dead; for the 150-200 animals still used in circuses; for all of these we raise awareness of the vital work carried out by the RSPCA.

Alness Old Parish Church lies in ruins on the way into the town from Evanton and went out of use sometime in the mid 1940's.
The core of the building is the remains of an old Norse church built somewhere between 1058AD-1287AD! It was later added to and extended in both the 18th and 19th Centuries.
This building has been on my radar to photograph for a while. Today's picture is a "first pass" as I was too short on time to really go digging into the historical fabric of the build and try to record some of the more ancient features, but I will get there at some stage!
An icicle hung on a red brick wall,
And it said to the sun, " I don't like you at all! "

my baby girl was tired and fell asleep under a chair, hahaha
This was tonight's sunset. I didn't think it would amount to much, but I was wrong. Happily, I didn't go out as I intended, but stayed in. Once I saw this, I knew I was in the right place at the right time.

Boys are back at school today and we took a wee run out to check the commute to Jen's new job ahead of starting on Wednesday!
I have to say, I think she may win on scenic commutes!

one warm car to another then out for a walk slash hike. we put rules on conversation and talked the whole time. the sun was setting over the trees as we left. now, the evening chill has us snuggled on the sofa planning projects, reading emails, learning of more babies on the way. if only we could pour the pacific into a bottle and bring japan and california a small ferry ride away.
