Happy Weekend!

Many thanks for your visit, most appreciated.

BEST VIEWED LARGE!!

Back to the fog and getting up early in the freezing cold!!! First sunrise of this year hope you all like it!

A chilly January morning just before sunrise. The light and the colours were amazing!

Late afternoon sunlight filtering through the undergrowth up on the Heath.

At the Winter Solstice, the wind is cold, trees are bare and all lies in stillness beneath blankets of snow.

As the name implies, this was taken in January. I haven't been out shooting much in the last few weeks, so I'm digging around the ole archives. Have a great weekend.

For Looking close... on Friday: "Calendar"

After a day of freezing fog, the setting sun created glowing colours to light up the sky and landscape. An ash tree stands sentinel on the Iron Age ramparts overlooking Witcombe Valley and outlined against the evening sky.

A kaleidoscopic abstract for January.

“January,

The first month of the year,

A perfect time to start all over again,

Changing energies and deserting old moods,

New beginnings, new attitudes”

Well the sun does occasionally shine for us, at least enough for this area of White Stock Flowers growing in January can attest.

If you L and then F11 to zoom, you can see where they stored their windmill components when they were building the wind farm.

And little known fun fact, now that I no longer work with our local flower grower --- This Stock flower is especially popular with funeral homes as it's so pungent it can overwhelm the olfactory receptors pretty easily --- think of that next time you're in Trader Joe's (who used to be our main customer for Stock)....

The colors of the peat bog are beautiful this time of year.

"don't be afraid should things happen to change

'cause change can be a beautiful thing

should things fall apart

be patient like a rainbow

life is loving and letting go..."

~Brett Dennen "Don't Forget"

Patience is a virtue.

... and on to other things! My fun fact for today ... people at work are so kind to share these things with me (oh, I'm so thankful.... lol!) Owls eat the heads off of pheasants and leave the rest of the bird. This is disturbing on so many levels... first of all...owls are birds, pheasants are birds... so isn't this... kind of... cannibalism? (ewww) Owls eat brains.... kind of like zombies. Wouldn't there be a lot more tasty meat on the rest of the bird... than the head?!! (Brains must be really good) Leaving the rest of the bird is kind of wasteful, don't you think? So, that became a discussion today... and then someone tried to explain something else to me and I had to admit to them... "I'm sorry, I'm not listening.... I just can't get past the owls eating the pheasant's heads... and then I had to google it. (the rest of my work just had to wait) It's true. I guess it's not really a "fun fact", is it?... especially not for the pheasants.

But...on a lighter note... it was warm today... and the sun was out... and the sky was blue!! No grey! YEY!!

The sun sank behind the tree, framed by the snowy field and foliage..

The sky was an unusual colour -- more pastel shades than usual.

I have found that the further we go into this COVID pandemic the more I want to oversaturate my photos. The bright colors cheer me up! Really, you might want to try it!:) The theme I’ve chosen for my 100X project this year is “Colorful”. This should be easy:)
