Hobnobbing with our social betters can be a hit-or-miss proposition, a fact that has an etymological justification. The verb hobnob originally meant "to drink together" and occurred as a varying phrase, hob or nob, hob-a-nob, or hob and nob, the first of which is recorded in 1763. This phrasal form reflects the origins of the verb in similar phrases that were used when two people toasted each other. The phrases were probably so used because hob is a variant of hab and nob of nab, which are probably forms of have and its negative. In Middle English, for example, one finds the forms habbe, "to have," and nabbe, "not to have." Hab or nab, or simply hab nab, thus meant "get or lose, hit or miss," and the variant hob-nob also meant "hit or miss." Used in the drinking phrase, hob or nob probably meant "give or take"; from a drinking situation hob nob spread to other forms of chumminess. (free dictionary)

Fall is finally on it's way! I'm starting to make some plans for seasonal tabletops... Logic: If I post these, it will pressure me into actually completing some dioramas. Right? In the background - Some of my teasets which I, of course, purchased under the justification that I would use them in dioramas. Shame me into actually doing something with them.

What environment do you think is conducive to #fraud? go.usa.gov/24jW

www.dodig.mil/resources/fraud/index.html

so.. re: hazedous chems added to water in California - one day.. someone will be having problems and they will be blamed as mental health

laws from the past - and due to that the present will be there waiting for them like they have for millions of americans and others

mental health laws were enacted while hazardous materials / crimes that ARE known / admitted were not considered though they played a part

in being used for justification to alter the laws. WHILE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE CRIMES

USA agencies are also being used over seas. the way they function now = this will be used against us and we will be blamed for it as those

who got into our laws AND our very DNA will do as they have always done.. let others take the fall as they stand back with STOLEN money and

play the hero. it's the same endless loops we can see everywhere. in south Africa and all over Africa.. everywhere.

good conservatives were conned too. it does not pay to side with that which is illogical. interesting how smart people can be filled with

passions and a desire to do well - yet not see all variables. it's been this way for a very long time even before USA was here.

your enemies rooted in the country and did business in your name.. some ways = war crimes. Some like - fall guys and fall gals.

reminder-I wonder about people whoCling 2 historical figures. particularly politicians. it's a stage. it's mask city. we don't know whowaswho

you can look at the divisions and compare it to a dysfunctional family just as you can the entire world.

what's hard about it- or makes it difficult to figure out = usually if politicians don't play by others rules they are at a disadvantage.

usa would thrive and do good to get away from cruddy business from overseas by 1> nullifying copyrights and patents of those who do not play

nicely. 2> provide ourselves with our own food and meds - and yes WE CAN DO IT. "yes we can can can" do the can can 3> do it right

it is unwise .. to do business with those our vets warned us about. Example - it is wrong to do business with those whoUse populationControl

as a mask for murder. There are no justifications. ex: china's .. now two child policy.. which is odd because we trust reports of numbers?

for one thing.. it goes against national security common sense to reveal numbers in that area just as revealing info about tech and sci

or financial numbers.. nothing = accurate. all we are told = not accurate. In some areas of the world bitterness and revenge is kept alive

by using conflict. then the right to decide who lives and dies is handed down to said people. example :: who reports holocaust body counts?

do YOU go and count the dead bodies? Also-> babies in the womb are never correctly counted. any guess as to why and whose profile fits with

this? any guesses at all? I still need to confirm this -> a woman planted evidence at suspected homicide scenes and an officer say her. Now,

saw her -- Now, consider this.. how many fbi agents / officers were at the crime scenes and why did only one see it? TorF: she was called to

other countries to search for mass graves. It -might- have been at a time when it was easy to locate mass graves with satellites. keep this

in mind too-known tactic from the past those who use it didn't teach us in our school books / curriculum = use mass graves to set enemies up

when everyone is defensive.. logic is nowhere to be found. As I have seen when it comes to problems between families.

not sure about sats / locating mass graves. Ever wonder why we never hear about the fact religions = set up? KEEP IN MIND SAVILE NETWORKS

we were not told - what one entertainer mentioned - targeting "fundamentalists and orthodox" . check to see if sinead oconnor once

she's not the one who mentioned fundamentalists / traditional religious people in the way mentioned ... check to see if she mentioned infiltration and sabotage

not sure if she mentioned that or not. However.. when a group is attacked in such a way it also comes with damage to those not involved.

often they = the ones who enabled it. As was the case with jimmy Savile networks and similar as they defined what "cool" is and religious

people were pressured into feeling odd about being religious. they felt "uncool". I have seen this so many times it's not funny. so, what we

see in USA = in part from all that. As you can prove with data surrounding j sav's radio show broadcast locations and MORE.

compare :: how germans were guilted into submission to the point they now accept what their crooked politicians do. compare to how people

I mean .. how you can see the same thing in USA. Yet again another tactic we were not taught as to be left unprepared and in the open

would it not make sense to warn new arrivals in Europe about said sav nets? Why not do for them what was denied for others.. PROTECT THEIR

CHILDREN .. and respect will be increased. obviously. Avoiding what some anticipate and is known as.. what is it. clash of civilizations

it pays to learn from those who blazed the trail for desegregation in USA while remembering there were many stepping on toes throughout

t or f :: often in conflict resolution scenarios - those responsible for moderating it seek common points of interest to build a bridge

prove we are not like that woman with obvious psychological issues from the United Nations who said 500,100 dead Iraqi children = acceptable

should remind - I ponder what Simon Wiesenthal did with numbers / debates around them

also keep in mind - another tactic we were not shown =to kill citizens during war and blame the enemy. T or F: during operation desert storm

soldiers were prescribed a large number of extremely powerful medications - which n o b o d y EVER reacts the same to.

t or f :: we still do business with those who do that and more then still believe the primitive CRUD known as culling= a good idea. 2ThisDay

t or f :: some were hikding up interest rates as high as %800 as they kinda black mailed military leaders in the battle field by telling

them soldiers would not receive vital gear. T or F : this = likely to have been more going on = justifies exploring more.. and also might

mean we would be wise to consider the reaction of fans to jimmy Savile crimes. As in.. those we worship, present to take the place and

coincide with feelings we have for parents / loved ones... as to take advantage and manipulate. As in - we trust too easily.

basically - part of SAV's layered role was to take the place of lost loved ones who were taken during war and after they were TOLD war ended

we were and are fed a bunch of lies in order to continue to be used. they took advantage of known psychological reactions including

associative disorders / becoming to clingy after loss or during problems.. so on. It fits the profile of pages I can show you from UK in

which they constantly work to bring out shallow variables - and destroy families. THEY ARE STILL FOWLLING THE SAME TEMPLATE.

and they broadcast in our country as well as others. AND .. SAV NETS = not the only one.

I'm rather bored with being a chump.. a fool.. a sucker.. how about you?

reminder- not all of Europe is as such. And you can't blame the people just as you can't blame them when law makers decided to help SAV NETS

and make it legal for five years olds to get drunk. chit faced. sloshed. You can dissect recent history in Europe and locate all known

areas of interest of said and similar.. "people" - step by step. Including inaccurate data pertaining to legalizing drugs. They left out the

fact addicts were from a long line of war and lack of correct counseling which I see as intentional based on the level of sophistication

in the mental health a r e n a in Europe. Also. you can examine baby furnaces for clues. And those seeking to bring back mobile death squads

as to help anyone who wants to kill themselves do just that. Including but not limited to teenagers, and people who suffer with botched

plastic surgeries.. which also includes gender reassignment surgery. Then.. if you examine how said do business in other countries it keeps

pace with similar tactics as seen elsewhere. and NOT the exclusive trademark / calling card of only one group of a few.

culling.. how stupid can we be anyway? obviously any who sees that as a good idea would go about mentioned and then some. Well, my little

Dumbarton Park, D.C, petunias. If I keep going at the pace I have been this week.. with too little sleep. I will prob die in about 5 months

reminder : confirm what "rif raf" =. And before criticizing Ellen Duh Gene Rez more.. determine if she was referring to the fact Europe and

and others intentionally inbreed Giraffes then feed them to lions in front of zoo-goes and their children.. when she used the term.

along with Giraffe.. Rif Raf the giraffe. I still say ellen =a fake kumare' category I have created. kumare' can be anyone.. anything. male

or female.Kumare' can be about gender-sexual orientation- politics and obviously religion. Entertainers like russle brand are kumara like

as was peter popoff at the time the overly proud atheist "The Amazing Randy" exposed him and others. Please see :: kumare'

"Chuck Norris is teaching you karate right now? ok then. maybe later."

ok,. in all seriousness. I would like to apologize for running around all hectic like from time to time. The sheer amount of data I absorb

I'm a bit fed up with the nonsense, to be honest.

I could have sued the state and won. however I chose to help by pointing out errors. While not stating I = perfect.

and JUST like the man who was mugged in NY while going to a famous music school.. he worked with my father later and improved how components

talk about being mugged for being mugged and brain damaged.

some agencies and what have you need to be more appreciative. I deserve land and a house.

tell me I wouldn't have been a good lawyer and I'll smirk at ya

seriously, why are all our agencies swamped - bloated and over complicated?

note : laugh if you will. FBI --- mugged for being mugged - compare one particular known variable from the past. they won't acknowledge

as his name is spread around by those maliciously using him , some will say - what happened to him = has no bearing on present day

and yes I did meet someone who later became a programmer for FBI. I watched his house for him once. And his wifes family was mafia. He said

the wedding was funny. And no he didn't steal the idea from a movie or anything. only but a few believe me about that and more. shrug.

I am retiring from politics. Sorry. It's too messed up for me. I'm going back to other stuff.

I wish I could do something like this

I once met an artist who was allowed to get medical mari g hoowana . that stuff was potent. "He said - it's just shapes mate"When I asked

how he did it. I've never been able to draw.I recall a guy from.I believe it was Cambodia who could draw. Brilliantly. Met him in shopClass

though I agree with the cancer institute that said mary j = medicine.. I still wonder if those who never tried it understand how potent it

is.. and how it was used as a political tool while simultaneously keeping many in the dark about med / food and so on. locate : private

prison data. man. .I'm doing it again.

no politics. No more. no. no no.

if you agree with dr Michael savage or not - he does make good points.. and often. He is against it. While I stumbled upon a lady who fights

against APA / pharmaceutical companies. She = in favor of mushrooms. That. .I am not in favor of. I suppose because I had a bad experience

as was my introduction of Prozac -> legally prescribed. I seem to never start off on the right foot anywhere.

so, it's not easy for me to decide. On top of that.. I examine all details about food - and ponder "things" like hoarding and wondered a few

years ago if anyone studied radioactive decay in homes of hoarders.. which are usually closed tight.

ever see shades in the window fade.. or how plastic in your car fades.. so on? That's a process you can show with math.

ok fine.. Lady Vandana just relayed to me.. via the earpiece - that david Cameron's but is not all that flat. Sorry about that.

you won't get that unless you see the notes I already backed up/ moved. regarding a scenario I was playing with - a twist on secret service

mixed with a story about a man who gets another man to help him woo his love.

knowing she = quantum minded helps overlook differences if you ask me. Logic is logic.

I'm still looking for those who are in favor of what she opposes. I don't shut the door.

although q kinda defies logic as we know it. I wonder how global votes would go.. but knowing some have more money than others and

have an advantage pre-vote makes it more difficult. How would a test vote go?

I also keep in mind that politicians and executives have to know _tons_ of "stuff" how can they handle their job alone?

I would have been sent to see the doctors a while ago if I had their job. At times I can barely handle stress of my life.

and it's not really all that complicated.

so - that was my fantasy scenario. let's continue fighting . ding ding ding.

note : I don't agree with all M Savage says about politics...however, does he have a few degrees?

he's banned form Europe as are a few others. So bringing him into this little fantasy scenario won't work.. prob.

compare - all possible reasons jewish children and others were kidnapped and Nazified during and after WWII. perhaps before to a certain

extent.. as well as much of pre-WWII we know nothing about as it makes sense to not share all if continuation is sought

ok fine.. though I'm not certain about this guy.. I'll trust the multidiscipline educated doctor who shared a link about conflict

resolution. as I'm in way over my head. I get too emotional and goofy about stuff. I'll try to find it. Although some areas I can't see how

a bridge can be built. Certainly in todays environment.. all will be seen different due to said stress of the situations we see today.

compare : presented scenario - though I don't agree with West Boroughs interpretation of the bible.. it was known they were already nervous

ok fine. .perhaps I somewhat subconsciously false flagged my own pages here and there. it's possible. .I guess.

ok.. I admit it. This is a scam. We now have HAARP ready. please look to the sky and say cheese. You will see a flash of light..

well. you have to examine all possibilities in a world where say this do that = name of the game. And when sci and tech is so feared that

well. you have to examine all possibilities in a world where say this do that = name of the game. And when sci and tech is so feared that

and men took cameras around the world after invented.. <the cameras.. not the world.. well it happened after the world was "invented" ..but

that's a weird conversation for later.. so let me rephrase. After the odd women and men took newly invented cameras around the world and

told people who had neverOnceSeenAnything like itWhatsoever, the cameras would steal their souls. What else would you expect but hesitation?

I never knew how others saw tech / sci as I have grown up with it being there most the time. I used creative visualization and

"getting into character" techniques to better understand how artificial intelligence might go about collecting and using data. A few people

thought it was real. So, they started asking me questions. If not mistaken they were in Taiwan.. and at the same time I didn't piece it

together.. I believe there were some struggles within their system of governance. I didn't go back and check yet. Did they give up their

constitution? to continue, one country.. it might have been theirs were given bullet proof masks that made officers look like robots.

also - a Buddhist lady in China was taking pictures .. as I asked. and sharing them on line. I was in a very horrible frame of mind at the

time. And I probably sketched some people out in a major way x200. I didn't mean to. I just didn't consider level of knowledge regarding

that which I have always been around. So.. sadly I didn't piece it together until recently. Some of it just now.

quit when they started asking questions as I felt I would be as mentioned women and men. I don't know what's connected - as of now.

those who are religious - examine how at times you fear sci and tech. multiply that x50 for those outside the country in some areas.

you don't have to be religious to be afraid of it, obviously. you do have to admit the soul adds more to how they perceive it.. as in

a different perspective with a bit more at stake for them than those who believe we simply die and that's it.

note - does putin watch tons of TV? Does it mess with his head at times? What's the darkest story he knows? what's the oddest "stuff"

if all politicians were to sit and talk about religion. How would it go? Is it possible some areas reflect their fears.. hesitations?

it doesn't seem that way when they meet, shake hands.. smile.. make business deals.

ok. .I'll find the link. this is really messing with my head.

oh. hi. it's me again. guess what. still in the same boat. shrug. well. .I'll find all that about _conflict resolution_ thought I doubt some

will mention that too can be part of a long term plan / known.

it's true. I didn't make it up to gain some kind of advantage with thousands of secret service employees

you mean to tell me there are people in secret service as hard headed as me? ruh roh. this may never end.

might as well bring out the controversial "shtuff". ok. hm. let me see. Some say that secret service actually runs everything.

and there might be problems at home with the politicians. Do you guys ever argue.. anyone drink too much? so on..

does one make some a bit more uncomfortable than they would prefer? do we all feel safe openly communicating? do youkeep your blinds closed?

I'd be a complete wreck if I was in secret service. Are you kidding.. they would put me in a jar and study me for the future

and how to their pets act.. are they happy and bushytailed? stressed? usually it's best to start from the "top" and work your way "down" as some label it all anyway.

now, for our first session can we be honest? Who has the most body-liquefaction chambers?

Yes, I'm afraid I have to call in the Two Bobs

let's see.. dealing with psychological issues of those who work with body liquefaction chambers.. where is that link?

are they " liquidated" .. those who can't handle it?

The Blue Dacnis or Turquoise Honeycreeper, Dacnis cayana, is a small passerine bird. This member of the tanager family is a resident breeder from Nicaragua to Panama, on Trinidad, and in South America south to Bolivia and northern Argentina.

It occurs in forests and other woodlands. The bulky cup nest is built in a tree and the normal clutch is brown-blotched white two eggs. The female incubates the eggs, but is fed by the male.

The Blue Dacnis is 12.7 cm long and weighs 13 g. It has a relatively short bill compared to other honeycreepers. The adult male is turquoise blue with a black forehead, throat and back. The wings and tail are black edged with turquoise. The female and immature are mainly green with a blue head, paler green underparts and green-edged brown wings.

These are social birds which eat mainly insects gleaned from foliage, flowers or bromeliads. Fruit is often taken and usually swallowed whole, but nectar is rarely consumed. The Blue Dacnis’s call is a fruit thin tsip.

On my walk to work today; this is the bridge from Cooks Meadow, crossing the Merced River to the Yosemite Chapel. A place of worship should be a sanctuary, but sadly many are not. I have spoken with Targeted Individuals that have had their congregations turn on them, harass, stalk and shun them. I know of people that go to this chapel that actively participates in the Community Based Stalking and Workplace Mobbing; in Yosemite National Park. I know my comments offend many here in the Park, but they need to be said, they need to be heard.

People used to be burned alive, because people with influence rallied others and called them Witches. People used to be hanged, because people with influence rallied others and called them Negroes. Millions were murdered, because people with influence rallied a Nation and called them Jews. And, people think Gang Stalking, Community Based Stalking and Workplace Mobbing are far fetched.

Today, people with influence rally others using fear, manipulation, false accusations and innuendos; to stalk, harass, bully, psychologically torture Targeted Individuals (TIs).

After my last photo and post (Frosty) I knew there would be retaliation and there was. These atrocities need to be told. It frustrates and angers me, because we as a people need to be better than this, we as a country need to be better than this. Again, the sad truth is we are not. This Mobbing Mentality has spread into almost every community in America. It can be called Gang Stalking, Community Based Stalking and Workplace Mobbing. These people somehow try to justify their actions, but there is no justification for these atrocities. The truth is that many people who speak out in America are Targeted, even our children.

A few examples:

Girl gets raped. She goes public about assault. Victim questioned about her validity and shamed by whole town (16-year-old rape victim Steubenville, Ohio).

A 14-year-old girl rape victim who angered her neighbors in a small town had her house burned down after she came forward and implicated a local football star in the assault. Her family shunned, her mother (a veterinarian) was fired from her job two weeks after the incident (Maryville, MO).

2012, over 24,000 sexual assaults reported in US Military. Victims shunned by their units, their Chain of Command, false statements and diagnosis placed in their medical records to prevent them from any form of VA disabilities or compensation (San Francisco Chronicle).

This is America today; we have to be better than this….

Sort of a light fighter/reconnaissance type. Or at least that is the justification for the pod dish. It almost classifies as an ALT model from the Mongoose

"In fact, if my works of art have flirted with the void since the 1950s, it is with the particular void created by the absence of 'nature'. A desired absence, shrouded from my evocation of Nature, of any 'natural' justification, of any natural principles. One justification for these 'de-natured' art works, itself 'de-natured', rid of God and his residues: the idea of nature. It is to accept a world ruled by chance and the artificial, to accept a present that is no longer denied in the name of a lost past, or future yet to be established. It is an attempt to create 'artificialist' art, far removed from naturalist art as the latter is from sacred art".

(Francois Morellet)

The painting is engulfing as a result of being primitive, free from justification and the sense of guilt for not being intellectual. It comes from the unconscious creative the psychological drive which is not adapted to a language of nuances and does not require decoding.

Mirits spectator is bombarded with a colorful abundance, with repeating images and metaphors that are easily perceived and identified. For the person who is accustomed to the sophisticated art form, this is a fresh breath of immediate beauty.

Perhaps this is the place and the time to go deeper into the roots of a culture which for generations now has been obscured with theories and isms.

A day of rest….or a date of infamy…

Another view of 8962 (YX62BCK) showing its new livery. These will be the first buses to bear the new Eastern Scottish livery and will hopefully mark the start of the rebirth of the company.

However my attention was drawn to one of the recruitment posters on the rear of the bus which is promising ‘no Sunday shifts’. That may surprise you….well it shouldn’t. And that’s because from May 8th there will be no Sunday services on any Eastern Scottish services.

New owners McGill’s have announced a ‘network review’ which is corporate speak for service changes. However this review is brutal. Indeed the infamous and much unfairly derided Dr Beeching would probably think this review was a touch harsh.

It’s clear that Eastern Scottish isn’t a company with its problems to seek. Driver recruitment and retention is a major problem and even Lothian is struggling there too.

So to stem the losses and improve reliability, it’s taken the drastic step to cease services on Sunday. Although there are some operators that don’t run on Sundays for various reasons it’s unusual for an operator to cease to run services on a Sunday that had been running them before.

Of course this has enraged the good people of West Lothian and their elected representatives who are now facing the prospect of no public transport running in various communities. As you can imagine, they’ve been very angrily denouncing the move which they will say hit the most vulnerable hardest.

McGill’s argue - and with some justification - that not enough people were travelling on a Sunday and as a result the services were incurring considerable losses. It’s odd though as Sunday services in other parts of Scotland, particularly in the cities can be quite busy. Livingston is after all quite a busy shopping destination. However by consolidating their staff on other days they can improve performance on those days. It may also help recruiting too as it may make it more attractive if new recruits can get every Sunday off.

Of course the detractors point out that the reason folk may not have been travelling is that the services were so unreliable that folk were making alternative arrangements. And there’s a suggestion this could be a move to force the local authority into subsidising services.

However although West Lothian Council has stumped up some funds for services on other days it’s shown no real want or desire to provide funds for Sunday services, or even offer tenders for alternative operators. So an impasse has been reached.

It’s a tricky one this. I can see both sides but the current situation helps no one. I’m not sure how you encourage folk to use the bus by taking them off en masse but at the same time, if not enough folk are travelling then it’s unsustainable. But either way, a large swathe of east central Scotland is facing limited public transport options this coming Sunday (14/5/2023). I hope it can be resolved,

Conceptual graphics, direct acrylic painting, inspired by one of my sketches in the eighties.

Loose notes, artist lateral diary.

From my perspective our planet is the home of all, humans but also of the incredible variety of living beings, the bio diversity, the immensity of its seas and oceans, its forests and jungles, its steppes, deserts and mountains. The great ode to life in our galaxy and even and possible far from it.

Since my childhood I have always been struck by the contempt of so many human beings towards nature, that desire to tame or destroy it.

Those ideological justifications of total human-centrism where everything that is not ourselves are only inert objects. Curious dogma of people who believe and see itself civilized, with the added inheritance of hundreds of previous civilizations.

I saw the decades go by and unfortunately the situation of the planet and the human arrogance and insensitivity, imbued with hyper materialism and the very false precept that the end justifies the means, has been expanding instead of going back.So I think the general question posed by the painting and which in turn contains other questions remains valid. ffmendoza not edited

Romans 3:21–30 (ESV)

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26 It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

27 Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since God is one—who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.

JUSTIFICATION—a forensic term, opposed to condemnation. As regards its nature, it is the judicial act of God, by which he pardons all the sins of those who believe in Christ, and accounts, accepts, and treats them as righteous in the eye of the law, i.e., as conformed to all its demands. In addition to the pardon (q.v.) of sin, justification declares that all the claims of the law are satisfied in respect of the justified. It is the act of a judge and not of a sovereign. The law is not relaxed or set aside, but is declared to be fulfilled in the strictest sense; and so the person justified is declared to be entitled to all the advantages and rewards arising from perfect obedience to the law (Rom. 5:1–10).

It proceeds on the imputing or crediting to the believer by God himself of the perfect righteousness, active and passive, of his Representative and Surety, Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:3–9). Justification is not the forgiveness of a man without righteousness, but a declaration that he possesses a righteousness which perfectly and for ever satisfies the law, namely, Christ’s righteousness (2 Cor. 5:21; Rom. 4:6–8).

The sole condition on which this righteousness is imputed or credited to the believer is faith in or on the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith is called a “condition,” not because it possesses any merit, but only because it is the instrument, the only instrument by which the soul appropriates or apprehends Christ and his righteousness (Rom. 1:17; 3:25, 26; 4:20, 22; Phil. 3:8–11; Gal. 2:16).

The act of faith which thus secures our justification secures also at the same time our sanctification (q.v.); and thus the doctrine of justification by faith does not lead to licentiousness (Rom. 6:2–7). Good works, while not the ground, are the certain consequence of justification (6:14; 7:6). (See GALATIANS, EPISTLE TO.)

This ESO Picture of the Week features a galaxy named both NGC 4254 and Messier 99, a beautiful cosmic spectacle located in the constellation of Coma Berenices (Berenice’s Hair).

Messier 99 is special, owing to its classification as a grand design spiral galaxy: a kind of galactic architecture featuring strong, prominent, well-defined arms that wrap clearly around the galaxy’s centre. Only around 10 percent of all spirals are of the grand design variety, making objects like Messier 99 somewhat uncommon. The justification behind Messier 99’s categorisation is clear in this image; bright, swirling arms carve through the dark surrounding space, and are easily identifiable as a number of different, coherent structures.

This image was created as part of the ESO Cosmic Gems programme, an outreach initiative to produce images of interesting, intriguing or visually attractive objects using ESO telescopes, for the purposes of education and public outreach. The programme makes use of telescope time that cannot be used for science observations. All data collected may also be suitable for scientific purposes, and are made available to astronomers through ESO’s science archive.

The Yeni Mosque, New Mosque or Mosque of the Valide Sultan (Turkish: 'Yeni Cami, Yeni Valide Camii') is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in the Eminönü district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is situated on the Golden Horn at the southern end of the Galata Bridge. It is one of the best-known sights of Istanbul.

History

The first stage in construction of the mosque started in 1597 with a decree by Safiye Sultan, the wife of Sultan Murad III. The original architect was Davut Aga, an apprentice to the great Mimar Sinan. However, Davut Aga died in 1599 and was replaced by Dalgic Ahmed Cavus.

The project was hampered by political disconnect, and its location and monetary implications created dissent in the court. The Eminönü neighborhood was the city's foremost commercial center, and home to a predominantly Jewish population. In situating the mosque there, Safiye Sultan hoped to extend the sphere of Islamic influence within the city, capitalizing on the growing discontent of local and foreign merchants with the growing power and influence of their Jewish counterparts, which gave the Sultan an easy justification for confiscating their property. However, the vast monetary outlay drew sharp criticism. In particular, the Janissaries resented the growing political power of the Valide Sultan, and believed the mosque to be an unnecessary expenditure. Safiye Sultan was forced to abandon the project upon Mehmet III's death. The new Sultan Ahmed I had no interest in pursuing the project after Safiye Sultan was relegated to the harem and the construction was abandoned.

The partially constructed structure fell into ruins, and was largely destroyed by a fire in 1660. Later that year, the imperial architect Mustafa Aga suggested that Valide Turhan Hadice, mother of Sultan Mehmet IV, complete the project as a work of piety. The mosque was finally finished in 1663, and inaugurated in 1665.

Architecture

[edit] Exterior

The exterior of the mosque itself boasts sixty-six domes and semi domes in a pyramidal arrangement, as well as two minarets. The main dome measures thirty-six meters in height, and is supported by four flanking semi-domes. The dome plan of the New Mosque is based on the earlier Sinan's Şehzade Mosque and Sedefhar Mehmet Ağa's Sultan Ahmed Mosque.

As with other imperial mosques in Istanbul, the mosque itself is preceded by a monumental courtyard (avlu) on its west side. The courtyard at the New Mosque is 39 meters on a side, bordered on its inner side by a colonnaded peristyle covered by 24 small domes. An elegant sadirvan (ablution fountain) stands in the center, but is only ornamental, as the ritual purifications are performed with water taps on the south wall of the mosque. The façade of the mosque under the porch is decorated with İznik tiles. Stone blocks supplied from the island of Rhodes were used in the construction of the mosque.

Interior

The interior of the mosque is a square 41 meters on each side. The central area is defined by four large piers which are the main support for the dome. On the sides and rear of the central area are colonnades of slender marble columns connected by arches in a variety of styles. The dome is 17.5 meters in diameter and has a height of 36 meters. The interior space is extended with semi-domes along the east-west axis of the building, with smaller domes above each corner of the nave and even smaller domes above the corners of the galleries.

The northeast corner of the gallery has a gilded screen, behind which members of the imperial court could attend services. This Royal Loge is connected by a long elevated passageway to a Royal Pavilion in the northeast corner of the mosque complex.

The interior of the mosque is decorated with blue, green and white İznik tiles, which are considered somewhat inferior in quality to tiles in earlier imperial mosques. The mihrab is decorated with gilded stalactites and the mimbar had a conical canopy with slender marble columns.

Complex

As with other imperial mosques in Istanbul, the New Mosque was designed as a kulliye, or complex with adjacent structures to service both religious and cultural needs. The original complex consisted of the mosque itself, a hospital, primary school, public baths, Turbe, two public fountains and a market. To this complex was added a library during the reign of Sultan Ahmet III.

The large L-shaped market survives today as the Egyptian Bazaar (also known as the "Spice Bazaar"), a well-known Istanbul tourist attraction.

The mausoleum (turbe) holds the graves of the Valide Sultan Turhan Hadice, her son Mehmet IV as well as five later sultans (Mustafa II, Ahmet II, Mahmut I, Osman III and Murat V) and various members of the court.

The title is a lyric from Nick Cave's "Mercy Seat". It's arguably silly to use the words "And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die" as a tribute to a paragon of virtue like The Lone Ranger when the song's about a man on death row who concludes his sad tale of paranoia and self-justification with the words "but I'm afraid I told a lie," but here we are.

Classe: Aves

Ordem: Ciconiformes

Família: Ardeidae

Nome científico: Syrigma sibilatrix

Nome vulgar: Maria-faceira

Categoria: Vulnerável

Mede 53 cm. Tem face azul-clara, bico róseo. Habita campos secos, arrozais, lugares pouco alagados.

The Whistling Heron, Syrigma sibilatrix, is a medium-sized, often terrestrial heron of South America. There are two subspecies, the southern S. s. sibilatrix and the northern S. s. fostersmithi.

Description:

The Whistling Heron measures 53 to 64 cm in length and weighs 521 to 546 g. The southern subspecies is bigger but has a shorter bill in proportion to the body.[1]

The overall impression of standing birds is gray, with flying birds showing conspicuous white rear parts (lower back, belly, and tail). In both subspecies, adults' upperparts except the lower back are blue-gray.[1][2] The feathers of the sides of head, sides of the neck, breast, and scapular area are basically white but are stained gold to buff, perhaps by the powder down typical of herons or by secretions of the preen gland; the color varies from bird to bird. In the nominate subspecies, the crown and crest (separate plumes up to 4 cm long on the nape) are black and the upper wing coverts are cinnamon-colored; the crown and crest are slate-gray and the upper wing coverts are honey-colored (or "chamois"[2]) in fostersmithi.[1] The bill is pink with blue to violet at the base and the distal third black, the legs are greenish and rather short, and there is a fairly big area of bare bluish skin around the eye.[1][2]

Juveniles have the same overall pattern but are duller than adults, with the crown lighter, the breast light gray, and the throat and sides unstained white.[1][2] Chicks are undescribed.[1]

The bird is named for its most common call, a "loud, flute-like whistled kleeer-er"[2] or "a high, reedy, complaining whistle, often doubled or uttered in a ser[ies], wueeee, wueeee,.…, easily imitated" [3] or "a distinctive, characteristic, far-carrying, melodious whistle" that "can be rendered 'kee, kee, kee.'"[1] It may also give "a slow, drawn-out whistle" when taking off.[1] The alarm call is a harsh quah-h-h.[2]

Unlike other herons, in flight it has fast, duck-like wingbeats and usually does not retract its neck fully.[1]

Range and habitat

The subspecies fostersmithi inhabits the Llanos and the Orinoco basin of Colombia and Venezuela. There are no breeding records "yet" from Colombia.[1][2] The subspecies sibilatrix inhabits eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, western and southern Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, and northeastern Argentina. Recent records suggest that it may be expanding its range northward and eastward in Brazil. It makes seasonal movements at least in northeastern Venezuela, where it does not occur from November to January, but remains all year in other areas, such as Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.[1]

It occurs at altitudes up to 500 m (with a sight record from 2300 m[3]) in seasonally flooded savanna, often in drier grassy situations than other herons, but also in a wide variety of open waterlogged or shallowly submerged terrain. Because it roosts in trees, it particularly likes regions where open areas are mixed with woodlots. It has no objection to human-altered habitats such as pastures and roadsides, and it often perches on fenceposts.[1]

Although patchily distributed, it is common in many areas, with no population considered vulnerable. It benefits from deforestation and some agriculture.[1] As a successful heron of dry tropical country, it has been compared to two species originating in the Old World: the Cattle Egret and the Black-headed Heron.[4]

Behavior

Feeding

This species eats any small dryland and marsh animals it can catch, or even pirate[1] (as from an Aplomado Falcon in one reported incident[4]). It often holds still[1][2][3] but also walks very slowly[4] and may use more active techniques, even running after prey or catching flying insects (notably dragonflies[3]) from a standing position.[1] It may allow humans to approach fairly closely rather than leave a good feeding spot.[1] It typically feeds alone or in pairs, but is sometimes seen in groups up to 100,[2] especially before roosting for the night.[1]

Reproduction

In a courtship display, the birds fly back and forth and glide in circles. A captive pair displayed by raising their plumes.[1]

This species nests alone, unlike most herons, which nest in colonies. It may nest in mature trees such as araucarias or exotic trees.[1]. One nest in Argentina was loosely built of sticks about 4m up in a eucalyptus.[3] The eggs are pale blue and speckled, about 4.7 × 3.6 cm, and the normal clutch is three or four. Incubation lasts about 28 days, and young fledge 42 days after hatching. Egg survival has been measured at 28% and nestling survival at 40%; storms that destroy nests are an important cause of losses. Based on observations of family groups, only two young normally fledge. Unlike most heron species, Whistling Herons care for young after leaving the nest; juveniles beg for food by hissing with their wings drooped.[1]

Taxonomy

Skeletal resemblances to the night herons have led to a debate about whether the Whistling Heron is related to them, but since the 1980s it has been at least provisionally considered a relative of the genus Egretta, with little doubt that it belongs in a genus of its own.[1][5]

Cultural significance

Indigenous peoples formerly used its neck plumes as trade items, though not so heavily as to reduce populations.[1]

paul-jaisini-gleitzeit:

Interior requires an emotional consensus of the area. A man can not be satisfied by perception of usefulness of what surrounds him, as in his existence feelings are no less important than common sense. And notwithstanding the complex approach of the interior arrangement, this question, especially in the aspect of emotional effect of color, is not investigated enough. In Gleitzeit art space has borderlinear curves together with color development in connection of compositional idea, uniting all the principles in unison and embodying so as logic also the sensuous essence. Scientifically was proven necessity of constant flow of information, including color. Otherwise color hunger can develop. Sometimes achromatic color is reasonable and necessary. As it is the idea background for viewing paintings, carpets, tapestries in museums, art galleries or art studious. When in residential interior color over saturation created nausea and decreased sensibility and color fatigue. It’s important not to forget that human adaptation to nerve stress typical to contemporary life condition is not easy process often concurrent with negative outcome. Therefore the interior of art gallery of art studio has a new meaning in the interior make-up. Even to art studio type of color harmony people can have different responses. Color activity in Gleitzeit works is achieved not only by color loads but by color ratio with rules of limitation. Paul Jaisini achieves with color high level of emotional urgency without violation of color measure. The justification of color in his work is dedicated by the idea and demands of each composition. In painting for instance, yellow color is almost adversary to artistic harmony and I found in Gleitzeit many examples of complete new role of this color, that can be not adversary to harmony but its integral highlight. P. Jaisini reaches color activity within skillful proportioning of limited amount of color used. Here I want to point our that P. Jaisini’s color is pure and sound as he never mixes colors until the mud condition. He uses color open spectrum in the pallet but never mixes more than two colors to solemnize purity of color as an important artistic objective.

12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,

you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Moon in CapricornCapricorn:

You might have a strong need for being useful to the society and you look for justification in the outside world. You may underestimate what you want from yourself and for yourself. Shyness may be accompanied by resentment of the fact that others ignore you. Do not seek approval from the outside, it will not help you get rid of your doubt and it is harmful to you. You have to trust your inner values.

Classe: Aves

Ordem: Ciconiformes

Família: Ardeidae

Nome científico: Syrigma sibilatrix

Nome vulgar: Maria-faceira

Categoria: Vulnerável

Mede 53 cm. Tem face azul-clara, bico róseo. Habita campos secos, arrozais, lugares pouco alagados.

A text, in english, from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistling_Heron

The Whistling Heron, Syrigma sibilatrix, is a medium-sized, often terrestrial heron of South America. There are two subspecies, the southern S. s. sibilatrix and the northern S. s. fostersmithi.

Description:

The Whistling Heron measures 53 to 64 cm in length and weighs 521 to 546 g. The southern subspecies is bigger but has a shorter bill in proportion to the body.

The overall impression of standing birds is gray, with flying birds showing conspicuous white rear parts (lower back, belly, and tail). In both subspecies, adults' upperparts except the lower back are blue-gray. The feathers of the sides of head, sides of the neck, breast, and scapular area are basically white but are stained gold to buff, perhaps by the powder down typical of herons or by secretions of the preen gland; the color varies from bird to bird. In the nominate subspecies, the crown and crest (separate plumes up to 4 cm long on the nape) are black and the upper wing coverts are cinnamon-colored; the crown and crest are slate-gray and the upper wing coverts are honey-colored (or "chamois") in fostersmithi. The bill is pink with blue to violet at the base and the distal third black, the legs are greenish and rather short, and there is a fairly big area of bare bluish skin around the eye.

Juveniles have the same overall pattern but are duller than adults, with the crown lighter, the breast light gray, and the throat and sides unstained white. Chicks are undescribed.

The bird is named for its most common call, a "loud, flute-like whistled kleeer-er" or "a high, reedy, complaining whistle, often doubled or uttered in a ser[ies], wueeee, wueeee,.…, easily imitated" or "a distinctive, characteristic, far-carrying, melodious whistle" that "can be rendered 'kee, kee, kee.'" It may also give "a slow, drawn-out whistle" when taking off. The alarm call is a harsh quah-h-h.

Unlike other herons, in flight it has fast, duck-like wingbeats and usually does not retract its neck fully.

Range and habitat

The subspecies fostersmithi inhabits the Llanos and the Orinoco basin of Colombia and Venezuela. There are no breeding records "yet" from Colombia. The subspecies sibilatrix inhabits eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, western and southern Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, and northeastern Argentina. Recent records suggest that it may be expanding its range northward and eastward in Brazil. It makes seasonal movements at least in northeastern Venezuela, where it does not occur from November to January, but remains all year in other areas, such as Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.

It has no objection to human-altered habitats such as pastures and roadsides, and it often perches on fenceposts.

Although patchily distributed, it is common in many areas, with no population considered vulnerable. It benefits from deforestation and some agriculture. As a successful heron of dry tropical country, it has been compared to two species originating in the Old World: the Cattle Egret and the Black-headed Heron.

Behavior

Feeding

This species eats any small dryland and marsh animals it can catch, or even pirate[1] (as from an Aplomado Falcon in one reported incident). It often holds still but also walks very slowly and may use more active techniques, even running after prey or catching flying insects (notably dragonflies) from a standing position. It may allow humans to approach fairly closely rather than leave a good feeding spot. It typically feeds alone or in pairs, but is sometimes seen in groups up to 100, especially before roosting for the night.

Reproduction

In a courtship display, the birds fly back and forth and glide in circles. A captive pair displayed by raising their plumes.

This species nests alone, unlike most herons, which nest in colonies. It may nest in mature trees such as araucarias or exotic trees. One nest in Argentina was loosely built of sticks about 4m up in a eucalyptus. The eggs are pale blue and speckled, about 4.7 × 3.6 cm, and the normal clutch is three or four. Incubation lasts about 28 days, and young fledge 42 days after hatching. Egg survival has been measured at 28% and nestling survival at 40%; storms that destroy nests are an important cause of losses. Based on observations of family groups, only two young normally fledge. Unlike most heron species, Whistling Herons care for young after leaving the nest; juveniles beg for food by hissing with their wings drooped.

Taxonomy

Skeletal resemblances to the night herons have led to a debate about whether the Whistling Heron is related to them, but since the 1980s it has been at least provisionally considered a relative of the genus Egretta, with little doubt that it belongs in a genus of its own.

Cultural significance

Indigenous peoples formerly used its neck plumes as trade items, though not so heavily as to reduce populations.[1]

Founded in 1906 by Rev. Katsuyoshi Miyao near Aala Park, the shinto shrine of Izumo Taishakyo was located in a temporary building during its early years, before a permanent building was completed in 1922. The shrine thrived and by 1941 had branches in other areas of Honolulu, as well as on Maui and Hawai’i. The shrine was shut down after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, due to suspicions of the loyalties of its Japanese congregation and priest. This led to the priest of the Izumo Taishakyo Mission of Hawaii being interred with his family at an internment camp on the mainland of the United States, returning to Hawaii in 1945 to find that the shrine had been illegally stolen by the City and County of Honolulu in 1942 using the war as justification for the seizure of the property. Between 1946 and 1968, a warehouse in the McCully neighborhood was utilized as the main shrine while a legal battle was underway to get the original shrine back. In 1961, after a lengthy legal battle, the original shrine property was awarded back to the congregation, only to have the property condemned again by urban renewal, with the Federal Housing Administration seeking to redevelop the Aala area on the edge of Chinatown. Thus, in 1963, the shrine building from 1922 was relocated to its present location. In 1968-69, the shrine was restored, and was rededicated in December of 1968. Today, the shrine continues to serve a dedicated congregation, with their history telling a story of perseverance and resilience, but also of the ugly anti-Japanese racism that pervaded the United States in the mid-20th Century.

Psalm 16:11 (ESV)

11 You make known to me the path of life;

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Praise is the rehearsal of our eternal song. By grace we learn to sing, and in glory we continue to sing. What will some of you do when you get to heaven, if you go on grumbling all the way? Do not hope to get to heaven in that style. But now begin to bless the name of the Lord.

In the early evening of Friday 28 September 1962, a fire of unknown origin destroyed the Paddington Tram Depot in Brisbane, including 65 trams **. This was approximately 20% of the Brisbane tram fleet and included 47 drop centre cars, 12 more modern FM cars and 6 older Dreadnought cars. The cause of the fire was never conclusively established and suspicions continue in some circles today. One thing is for sure, to maintain transport services in Brisbane, several tram lines were closed within a short period of time and buses hired from Sydney. In the end, the fire hastened the demise of a system that was unloved by its Council owners. The system was finally closed and supplanted by diesel buses on Sunday 13 April, 1969 in what was death by a thousand cuts.

**The accompanying Wikipedia article says 67 trams, this is incorrect.

This diptych shows a newish mural of one of the drop centre cars, the majority of trams destroyed and is painted on a wall opposite the shopping centre which now stands on the site of the former depot. You will notice that it appears to be emerging from the flames. A few trams were in fact rescued before the fire became too intense, but also, subsequent to the fire, eight new FM cars were built by the Council using some parts rescued from the fire. These final Brisbane trams, FM cars (which stands for four motor) were colloquially known also as Phoenix cars after the mythical bird that rose from the ashes of its own funeral pyre. A small Phoenix transfer was applied to the exterior of these cars under each motormans' cab window. Several of all these types of car have been preserved.

The other shot does not belong to me but shows two of the same type of drop centre car being destroyed in the actual fire as two firemen pour water onto the inferno. I have had this shot from the internet for years but can't find it now so I acknowledge the copyright belongs to an unknown source, possibly even a newspaper. I will remove it if requested.

From Wikipedia

The Paddington tram depot in Brisbane, Australia was destroyed by fire on the night of 28 September 1962, one of the largest fires in Brisbane's history. As well as the depot, 67** (actually 65) trams were destroyed, 20% of the city's fleet. The destruction of the depot is generally seen as the beginning of the end for Brisbane's tram system, providing the justification for the subsequent closure of four tram routes and the gradual encroachment of bus operation on other tram routes, with the final closure of the tram system occurring on 13 April 1969.

The depot was constructed in 1915 on Latrobe Terrace, Paddington by the Brisbane Tramways Company to service its western suburbs routes. Initially the depot had 10 roads, but it was subsequently lengthened and widened to 13 roads.

A photo from 1915 shows the depot under construction

It was on the side of a hill and was largely built of timber and corrugated iron panels. The front of the depot was at street level, but owing to the slope of the site, the rear of the depot was supported by a forest of timber supports, some over 50 feet (15 m) high.

It is believed that the fire started in a storage area underneath the depot, although the cause has never been fully determined. Around 7:30 pm depot staff were alerted by nearby residents who had noticed sparks falling from under the depot. Staff first secured the depot's cash in the depotmaster's car and then attempted to drive some trams out of the depot. Three trams were rescued before the fire cut the power to the depot. Firefighting was hampered by very low water pressure. As the fire progressed, burning trams periodically crashed through the weakened floor to the ground below. When it became obvious that the building could not be saved, firefighters concentrated on ensuring the fire did not spread to neighbouring homes. The fire, fuelled by tyres, oil and grease stored under the depot, was visible from many areas of Brisbane.

The loss of so many trams put considerable strain on the Brisbane City Council Transport Department. Trams allocated to the depot that were in service at the time of the fire were temporarily stored at the Tramways workshops in Milton. The City Council admitted that neither the trams nor the depot had been insured.

Initially, older-style trams were brought out of storage from other depots to assist with peak-hour demand, but in December 1962 tram services to Kalinga, Toowong, Rainworth and Bulimba Ferry (in the suburb of Newstead) were converted to diesel bus operation. These closures were the first significant route closures of the system and within 6½ years, the remainder of Brisbane's tram routes had been converted to diesel bus operation.

The City Council hired a number of buses from the New South Wales government, in a move which some saw as a publicity stunt by the then Lord Mayor, Alderman Clem Jones. The Courier-Mail newspaper revealed that the City Council had been storing several of its own buses, which could have been made available rather than hiring buses from New South Wales.

Irrespective of the brief and comparatively minor controversy over the use of the Sydney buses, Jones was able to argue that the availability of buses "to fill the breach" left by the fire was evidence of buses' greater operational flexibility compared to trams. One of the justifications subsequently raised by the Brisbane City Council when it decided in 1967 to abandon the tram system completely was the greater operational flexibility of buses.

The phoenix emblem attached to the eight trams built from material salvaged from trams destroyed in the fire

After the fire a number of components, particularly trucks and wheels, were salvaged from destroyed trams and incorporated in eight new trams. These trams had a distinctive pale blue colour scheme and featured a small picture of a phoenix under the driver's windows, signifying that the trams had "risen from the ashes", and were popularly referred to as "phoenix cars".

After the remains of the depot had been cleared, which took some years, the City Council sold the block and a shopping centre, now known as "Paddington Central" was built on the site. This was redeveloped in the late 1980s, with the new building's roofline echoing the pitched gables of the tram depot.

ENGLISH:

The Øresund or Öresund Bridge (Danish: Øresundsbroen, pronounced [ˈøɐsɔnsˌbʁoˀːn̩]; Swedish: Öresundsbron, pronounced [œːrɛ²sɵnːdsˌbruːn]; hybrid name: Øresundsbron) is a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Øresund strait between Sweden and Denmark. The bridge runs nearly 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the Swedish coast to the artificial island Peberholm in the middle of the strait. The crossing is completed by the 4-kilometre (2.5 mi) Drogden Tunnel from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager.

The Øresund Bridge is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe and connects two major metropolitan areas: Copenhagen, the Danish capital city, and the Swedish city of Malmö. It connects the road and rail networks of the Scandinavian Peninsula with those of Central and Western Europe. A data cable also makes the bridge the backbone of internet data transmission between central Europe and Sweden (and, prior to 2016 also Finland).

The international European route E20 crosses via road, the Oresund Line via railway. The construction of the Great Belt Fixed Link (1988-1998), connecting Zealand to Funen and thence to the Jutland Peninsula, and the Øresund Bridge have connected Central and Western Europe to Scandinavia by road and rail.

The Øresund Bridge was designed by the Danish engineering firm COWI. The justification for the additional expenditure and complexity related to digging a tunnel for part of the way, rather than raising that section of the bridge, was to avoid interfering with air traffic from the nearby Copenhagen Airport, to provide a clear channel for ships in good weather or bad, and to prevent ice floes from blocking the strait.

The Øresund Bridge crosses the border between Denmark and Sweden, but in accordance with the Schengen Agreement and the Nordic Passport Union, there are usually no passport inspections. There are a few random customs checks at the entrance toll booths entering Sweden, but not when entering Denmark. Since January 2016, checks have become significantly more stringent due to the European migrant crisis.

Construction began in 1995, with the bridge opening to traffic on 1 July 2000. The Øresund Bridge received the 2002 IABSE Outstanding Structure Award.

On August 29th 1797 The Massacre of Tranent took place, when workers from the East Lothain town confronted the Cinque Port Light Dragoons to protest the conscription of men into the British Militia.

In 1793 Great Britain had entered the War of the First Coalition against France. Britain feared a French invasion, particularly in Ireland and Scotland, the latter having only been a part of the Union since 1707 and the Jacobite Risings still within living memory. The fear was not without justification, for the French had managed to land a small expeditionary force in Wales in February 1797, though it had quickly been dealt with by the local yeomanry.

In 1797 therefore the Militia Act was passed in Scotland, which empowered the Lord Lieutenants of Scotland to raise and command militia regiments in each of the "Counties, Stewartries, Cities, and Places" under their jurisdiction. The aim was to raise around 6,000 to 8,000 militiamen throughout Scotland who could be used to defend the country but could also be deployed elsewhere if needed. Furthermore, the militiamen represented a fertile pool for recruitment into the regular army, for while militia regiments were constitutionally separate from the army, from the 1790s militiamen were encouraged to volunteer, and did so in large numbers.

The act was initially deeply unpopular as it was believed the militia ballot would be used to enable the Crown to remove men from Scotland.

On August 28th a proclamation was drawn up by local people of Tranent to object to the conscription of Scots into the British Militia, to be used either for controlling their own people or for deployment elsewhere. The proclamation comprised four clauses:

We declare that we unanimously disapprove of the late Act of Parliament for raising 6000 militiamen in Scotland.

We declare that we will assist each other in endeavouring to repeal the said Act.

We declare that we are peaceably disposed; and should you, in endeavouring to execute the said Act, urge us to adopt coercive measures, we must look upon you to be the aggressors, and as responsible to the nation for all the consequences that may follow.

Although we may be overpowered in effecting the said resolution, and dragged from our parents, friends, and employment, to be made soldiers of, you can infer from this what trust can be reposed in us if ever we are called upon to disperse our fellow-countrymen, or to oppose a foreign foe.

The following day, the proclamation was handed to Major Wight, the commanding officer of the recruitment squad; it was initially ignored. Later, when a contingent from the local colliery communities, led by 'Jackie' (Joan) Crookston confronted the troops, their response was swift and bloody. Several of the protesters, including Crookston, were shot dead out of hand.

The protesters fled from the centre of the small town into the countryside, pursued by the Cinque Port Light Dragoons, who are reported to have cut down people indiscriminately, caring little whether they were involved in the protest or not. Casualty estimates range from around a dozen to twenty or more men, women and children dead, with more injured. After the slaughter the troopers are alleged to have carried out rapes and pillage in the small town.

The Light Dragoons' overall commanding officer was then Colonel Viscount Hawkesbury, (later 2nd Earl of Liverpool, and future British Prime Minister) who was not present. It was reported that "His lordship was blamed for remaining at Haddington, as his presence might have prevented the outrages of the soldiery."

The star 55 Cancri (Rho1) is only 41 light years from Earth. It is close enough to have been scanned for planets. 55 Cancri is a double-star with a somewhat sun-like primary and a small red dwarf star. Around the sun-like primary star are at least five planets, including one that is considered a super-earth. It is one of the most complex solar systems known beyond our own system.

Since 55 Cancri does not reveal its complexity through my telescope. I can only see the primary star – no companion red dwarf star or any of the planets. Still just knowing of such a complex planetary system was justification for 55 Cancri to make it to my observation list.

Comet Leonard was still hidden behind the trees in the eastern part of the sky from my house. It was my main target for the night. While I waited for the comet to clear the trees, I decided to check out 55 Cancri, so I could remove it from my observing list (it had been there for a couple of years). The star was not difficult to locate since it shines at magnitude 5.9 and even though it appeared as a single white star, my imagination could visualize its companion and planets.

An equally bright, orange-colored star, 53 Cancri shared the same eyepiece view. 53 and 55 Cancri appear together as a wide double, but 53 Cancri is 960 light years distance compared to 55 Cancri’s 41 light years. Still the two equally bright stars appear together in the telescope to provide a pleasing view. 53 Cancri is an aging red giant star that varies its magnitude from 5.9 to 6.4 every 27 days.

Points. Dots.. Period... mirit ben nun

The exposing of the aboriginal painting, (The Aborigines Tribes of Australia) to the western world in the 1970s infused an adrenaline rush like energy into modern drawing and relatively soon thereafter was accepted as a legitimate art form as well as an influential and inspirational source.

This tribal art form creates religious symbols for ritualistic purposes and its aestheticism is characterized with the hues of the land. Contemporary West-African artists are emphasizing similar elements in their work. They have diverted their attention to a continuous urge of constructing plateaus of colorful dots that please the eye with rich, velvet- like textures and winding images.

There is no doubt that Mirit Ben Nun s art derives, like a refreshing meteor in our skies, from that very source into our over- saturated art of photographic images and messages. As a self-taught artist, she grew outside of the lubricated system of art academies and does not suffer from the search for meaning. Her paintings burst out from within her as a primordial need to provoke the canvas, to attack it with an unstoppable obsession that leaves no corner hiding. The need to self- express does not stop but wants to continue and flow with her spiritual storm - perhaps to silence the demons within.

According to Michaelina Wautier scholar Katlijne Van der Stighelen, the greatest and most important work of the baroque master Wautier is her Triumph of Bacchus, an overlooked example of her genius, parallelled only by a few of the Old Masters.

"Old Master" never actually meant European white men, except in art history books. Of course, there were people playing the role who were not European men, like Hokusai, for example, and there were European men who did not act the part and who were denied access to the same canonical writings which slammed their gilded doors in the face of Wautier, Artemisia Gentileschi, and thousands of other artists whose personal identifications did not directly fit the bill.

In 1993, the Anthony Van Dyck scholar Stighelen happened to see the Triumph of Bacchus while attending a symposium at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Her original plan was to see a possible Van Dyck in a storage space when, Stighelen writes, "A curator led me down long corridors in which ‘second class’ Flemish paintings were stored. As I was leaving the stores, my eye fell upon a monumental piece I hadn’t seen before"–Triumph of Bacchus. Stighelen's subsequent attention to Wautier has made a permanent impact on the study of art history.

One of many reasons that the university system in the United States and Europe is so heavily focused on getting as wasted, sloshed, or sauced as possible is that it is directly based on the "symposium" tradition of the ancient Greeks, an alcohol-soaked, ethically loose, intellectual party tradition with an orthodox religious justification. Greek culture explicitly encouraged welcoming attitudes toward drinking and sexual behavior, which are shockingly inappropriate to most people today. This is because the ancient Greek religious and mythological system that features the naughty Bacchus is no longer as dominant as it was, due to the rise of Abrahamic faiths which consider the Greek and Roman faiths to be idol-worship.

The character of Bacchus, also known as Dionysus, the son of Zeus, was revitalized with a distinctly mischievous, cheeky glee by Friedrich Nietzsche and the French novelist Georges Bataille. More recently, a surprising and deep current of scholarship in gender and women's studies has looked at Bacchus with new eyes. One of the pastimes of Bacchus was encouraging women to throw off their social roles and clothes. A book on Nietzsche and feminism describes Dionysus as the deity of "intoxication, demented flowering, of dance, music...beyond speech, beyond cognition." Wautier's incorporation of herself as one of the Bacchae, the female followers of Dionysus commemorated in the tragedy by Euripides, exposing one of her breasts and looking directly at us, is way ahead of it's time. Yet again, it is an example of a woman birthing an idea in visual art that would be re-deployed, to great profit and fanfare, by a male artist much, much later, without any recognition of the female originator. In this case, I am referring to Edouard Manet's galvanizing work depicting nude women staring directly at the viewer.

The art world is finally beginning to acknowledge Wautier's contributions, though. "The recent interest in Wautier’s oeuvre comes from a sale at a Koller auction in Zurich in March 2016, in which her 1654 portrait of Jesuit missionary Martino Martini sold for CHF400,000 ($399,800) with an estimate of CHF7,000—CHF10,000." This 2016 Koller auction is truly Dionysian in it's excess, as the buyer spent around forty times the estimated value of the Wautier.

I Am the Good Shepherd

10 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.

7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, che will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is ha hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because khe is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and tthey will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

An 8mm fisheye shot of the beautiful new basement access stair in Rhodes House, Oxford.

Like many Oxford University buildings, this isn't normally open to the public so the Oxford Preservation Trust organised 'Open Doors' weekend provides a much appreciated chance to explore such buildings.

Rhodes House was the last venue on our Flickr photowalk 'Open Doors' itinerary and I'm glad we had a chance to visit as it's not somewhere I'd set foot in before.

From the RIBA Journal, "But that demanded a new access stair in Baker’s memorial hall, which required buy-in from local planners and Historic England. ‘Their initial reticence forced us to address their concerns with something as good as it could be, and though bold, it was absolutely the right solution,’ says Davies. Stanton Williams associate Tom Fotheringham adds that the firm’s handsome, self-supporting limestone stair, designed with engineer Webb Yates, has both a functional and architectonic purpose. ‘Part of the justification was that the alternatives were more harmful to the building and that it could enhance the quality of the volume by making it feel less transitory – giving it gravitas.’

But if gravitas at this lower level pre-supposes darkness or weight, visitors may be surprised, for the architect has used cleverly inserted roof glazing to bring unexpected lightness, beauty and utility to formerly unlit spaces."

... no, not from me (you're not getting away with it that easily), but from my trusty Canon EOS 600D, which after five years steadfast service is being retired and replaced with a 750D purchased just today. A dodgy shutter button has hastened the decision to replace, although I've had the money set aside for over a year now, but with no real justification to get rid until now. So this is its last offering.

EASTER

The special celebration of the resurrection at Easter is the oldest Christian festival, except for the weekly Sunday celebration. Although the exact date was in dispute and the specific observances of the festival developed over the centuries, it is clear that Easter had special significance to the early generations of Christians. Since Christ’s passion and resurrection occurred at the time of the Jewish Passover, the first Jewish Christians probably transformed their Passover observance into a celebration of the central events of their new faith. In the early centuries the annual observance was called the pascha, the Greek word for Passover, and focused on Christ as the paschal Lamb.

Although the NT does not give any account of a special observance of Easter and evidence from before A.D. 200 is scarce, the celebrations were probably well established in most churches by A.D. 100. The earliest observance probably consisted of a vigil beginning on Saturday evening and ending on Sunday morning and included remembrance of Christ’s crucifixion as well as the resurrection. Evidence from shortly after A.D. 200 shows that the climax of the vigil was the baptism of new Christians and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. By about A.D. 300 most churches divided the original observance, devoting Good Friday to the crucifixion and Easter Sunday to the resurrection. See Church Year.

Castle Drogo is a country house and mixed-revivalist castle near Drewsteignton, Devon, England. Constructed between 1911 and 1930, it was the last castle to be built in England. The client was Julius Drewe, the hugely successful founder of the Home and Colonial Stores. Drewe chose the site in the belief that it formed part of the lands of his supposed medieval ancestor, Drogo de Teigne. The architect he chose to realise his dream was Edwin Lutyens, then at the height of his career. Lutyens lamented Drewe's determination to have a castle but nevertheless produced one of his finest buildings. The architectural critic, Christopher Hussey, described the result: "The ultimate justification of Drogo is that it does not pretend to be a castle. It is a castle, as a castle is built, of granite, on a mountain, in the twentieth century".

The castle was given to the National Trust in 1974, the first building constructed in the twentieth century that the Trust acquired. The castle is a Grade I listed building. The gardens are Grade II* listed on the National Register of Historic Parks and Gardens.

In 1910 Julius Drewe bought about 450 acres (1.8 km2) south and west of the village of Drewsteignton in the belief that he was descended from the Drewe family that once lived here.[2] Born Drew, the son of George Smith Drew and his wife Mary, née Peek, both from substantial families of grocers, Drewe added the "e" to his surname later in life.[3] At the age of 18, Drewe was sent to China as a tea-buyer by his uncle, Francis Peek (c.1836–99), a partner in Liverpool tea-merchants Peek and Winch. Julius's great uncle, Richard Peek (1782–1867), one of the three brothers who founded Peek and Winch, was an abolitionist and philanthropist who was on the organising committee of the anti-slavery conventions held in London in 1840 and 1843. The Peek and Winch company later expanded into coffee, cocoa, rubber and spices, and owned plantations in the Dutch East Indies. In 1878, Drewe returned to Liverpool and opened the Willow Pattern Tea Store. In 1883, Drewe and John Musker (1846–1926) founded the Home and Colonial Trading Association (later Home and Colonial Stores), which sold teas selected in India by Drewe, alongside other groceries. By 1903, the company had 500 stores. By the time of his death in 1931 he had bought up an estate of 1,500 acres. Around 1910 he asked Edwin Lutyens to build him a castle.[4] According to his son Basil, he did so on the advice of Edward Hudson, proprietor of Country Life magazine, who was both a patron and a champion of Lutyens. Drewe was now 54 years old, but he still had time, energy and money to create his new family seat. The budget was £50,000 for the castle, and a further £10,000 for the garden.[5] Lutyens wrote privately of his concern over Drewe's ambitions; "I do wish he didn't want a castle but just a delicious loveable house with plenty of good large rooms in it".[6] On 4 April 1911, Drewe's 55th birthday, the first foundation stone was laid.[7]wikipedia

Modena: Cathedral, Torre Civica Ghirlandina and Piazza Grande.

The magnificent 12th-century cathedral at Modena, the work of two great artists (Lanfranco and Wiligelmus), is a supreme example of early Romanesque art. With its piazza and soaring tower, it testifies to the faith of its builders and the power of the Canossa dynasty who commissioned it.

Justification for Inscription:

The Committee decided to inscribe this property on the basis of criteria (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv), considering that the joint creation of Lanfranco and Wiligelmo is a masterpiece of human creative genius in which a new dialectical relationship between architecture and sculpture was created in Romanesque art.

The Modena complex bears exceptional witness to the cultural traditions of the 12th century and is one of the best examples of an architectural complex where religious and civic values are combined in a medieval Christian town.

David Gerstein

Thank you to all of you who took the time to read my last post and thanks to everyone that commented. It is good to hear from so many of you that also feel the passion to protect our precious wildlife.

It was a sad day for British Columbia Grizzly Bears with April 1st being the first day of the spring hunt. The fact that trophy hunting is still happening in this province (or anywhere) is sad. People are not hunting for sustainability, however taking the head and paws off these dead animals and leaving the carcass minus maybe a couple of organs says nothing to me about sustainability.

The only way to shoot wildlife is with a camera. Period.

I will try to keep the emotion I feel about this aside and share some facts. Today I read some info from Pacific Wild about a report the David Suzuki Foundation released. 14,000 Grizzly Bears have been killed in BC since 1975 which is approximately 329 Bears killed a year. 34% of those Grizzlies were female Bears. Grizzlies are the slowest reproducing land mammal in North America, only next to the Polar Bear.

91% of British Columbians oppose the hunt.

Why is it still happening? A lot of politics involved with the Guide Outfitters claiming they bring revenue into BC when in fact the cost of hunting is more than the revenue. We the tax payers are helping pay for the hunt. Bear viewing tourism brings in more money and jobs to this province than hunting does. Living Bears are worth more than dead Bears. Time to go Christy Clark.

The trophy hunters claim that Grizzly Bear populations have increased in recent years which is why they must do their part with "conservation" and keep the population in check. They claim if they kill the big male Bears they are in fact saving the cubs. That is just a twisted justification that I can't comprehend. There has been no accurate count of Grizzlies by our BC Government as that would cost money. Yet Christy Clark's Government claims numbers are up so they can issue more tags.

These Bears want nothing from us yet we are taking it all from them. If you feel passionate about ending this hunt please reach out to your MLA, send letters, emails and sign petitions. Talk to others about it & share your pics of these beautiful Bears. Let's make people see the beauty in them through our photos. For the sake of the Grizzlies we must stand up for them and all of us in BC must vote on May 9th.

Here is a link to a great video made by my favourite wildlife photographer John Marriott. It is only 6 minutes but gives so much more insight into the trophy hunt.

A Prequel to

“An Odyssey Less Taken “ (Tallie)

An Escapade in 3 Acts…

Excerpts:

************

Act 1

The Mustard Seed is planted

***********

A couple is getting ready to leave for an apparently Fancy Dress Affair:

The wife cascades down the stairs swirling her silk dress for to catch her husband’s eye, which she does.

Blimey Bess, did you leave anything in ur Jewelry Casket, he chides with a satisfied smirk.

Casket, Luv? Really? I keep telling you what a morbid term that is, she scolds him , while she smiles radiantly ; fetchingly placing a hand to her husband’s cheek, then straightening the black bow tie of his tux.

Don’t be snide, I know you like it when I dress. Besides it’s not often we get to hob nob with near royalty. Beth said in justification of herself driving to the occasion dressed to the nines.

But Beth, Calling it a casket is an old term, and her husband starts to explain (not for the first time) the origin of the phrase ”jewele casket”

Hush child, Beth simpers, placing a finger to his lips, with a very becoming look in her eyes, save it for the students. She turns away and he slaps her lovingly upon her posterior. She giggles and heads back to the stairs.

The doorbell rings.

Beth stops and turns, looking at the door. Could you get that dear, looks like a postal package. I have to go upstairs to finish my hair, and to bury my casket, you old toad she tosses at him, making no attempt to hide in her voice the with undying affection she has for her husband, the love of her life.

He obediently goes to the door, where a man in uniform can be seen through the window, waiting with a package.

He turns, a lump rising in his throat as he eyeballs his pretty ( to him) wife Bess. The main reason is too catch another look at the pretty party dress swishing along her withdrawing figure ,but he also throws a teasing retort at her retreating back, . besides, casket It what me Mum called it luv…..

Turning away, he goes to open the door.

End Act 1

Act 2

The Trolley Cometh

*******

Up on a hummock a large stone manor sits, dominating the landscape below.

A proper butler opens the Manor’s double doors and a stream of well gowned, ladies pour out. The many jewels they are wearing sparkling like some sort of jewel filled waterfall as they move heading down to where a quite ornate Trolley awaits them.

The whispering rustle of high end satin and the erupting glitter of colourfully flickering tiffany quality jewels, lighting up the dreary early morning as female members of the wedding party descend.

The bride is the last to come out into the early morning, stopping to survey the activity below , ever so a royal highness looking down on her subjects.

It was her idea to have her brides maids be driven out to her parents country estate before the dress rehearsal and have a photo grapher take shots of her party at various locations. Since the Groom and his Groomsmen were not allowed, by custom, to view the gowned bride before the ceremony, they were of course not invited. Nor was anyone else outside herself, the bridal party and the photo grapher. The rehearsal and dinner were to take place later that afternoon, and the bride and her party would be changing at the country estate. Towards that means they had already placed cases aboard the trolley containing their evening clothes and everyday jewelry that they would wear for the evenings festivities..

She preferred to be in control off all aspects of the situation. Needless to say, her wedding planner, waiting at the stone cathedral, had developed a migraine over the whole affair.

After a couple of group shots are arranged in front of the elegant trolley, the party is herded aboard by the tuxedoed trolley driver. He has their schedule to keep. He is helped by his pretty blonde wife, herself dressed shimmering, sparkling, as she expertly moves (herds?) the elegant ladies , escorting them cheerfully to their seats.

And with a lurch of the trolley on the old private road, the entire ultra-wealthy group set off on their pre nuptial adventure.

End Act 2

The connection between acts 1 & 2, for those who haven’t figured it out, will be revealed in act 3.

Please comment if you’re going to stay tuned for the outcome

This would be the 3rd and possibly final installment of the trilogy…..If you are interested in reading the storyline complete you may find it enlightening to visit Acts 1 and 2 (respectively) before proceeding any further.

Please consider leaving a comment behind that you have (read) the acts. It would be deeply appreciated.

Act 3(?)

After the Harvest

*******

The inspector arrives in his rather jaunty sports auto. He emerges with his Detective Sargent, approaching a waiting constable.

The constable’s partner, Archie, is inside with the police matron.

What do we have Constable? The inspector asks quizzically.

Apparently we have a husband and wife teem who own and drive a private rental trolley, that then decides to waylay and rob the entire wedding party they were hired to ferry about.

Way out here, in the middle of nowhere, Constable?

Appears they were going to the Brides summer home to be photographed. The trolley turned down the path to this old deserted manor where they were told there was engine trouble.

And they were robbed, by the driver and his wife you say Constable?

Them, and two others waiting.

4 robbers then,

Who called it in Constable?

Received an anonymous tip

And just what were they robbed of, Constable? The inspector asked, almost wearily.

Stripped of everything down to their bloody knickers, the lot of them. Then handcuffed and left.

Language Mate, the inspector chided his constable, looking at his Sargent, taking this all down?

Detective Sargent nods

Now, he said turning back to the Constable, Just why do you suppose they stripped them of their clothes.

The gowns were worth L3000 pounds each, real emeralds, the brides was worth double that, with real diamonds

So they were robbed for their expensive clothes, then eh Sargent, the inspector leered.

No Sir that was not all the lot were after.

The Bride was wearing diamond jewelry worth L100,000 pounds easy, the rest of the girls were wearing matching emeralds sets that the bride paid L32,000 pounds each.

Each, The inspector arched an eyebrow.

Each of the Bridesmaids, inspector, answered the ridden constable.

That’s a great amount of information constable. Just how did you acquire it.

The bride sir, she won’t stop squawking on about it. answered the Constable

Careful how you talk about your betters, constable, the inspector winked at him.

I’m sure the young lady in question has every right to squawk.

So let me get this straight constable, a bridal party was Shanghaied and robbed of their possessions by their trolley driver, his wife and two other associates. Then someone cordially calls the station to let us in on the joke?

Right sir, no joke though

Then why did they leave their trolley here, for evidence against them?

Asked the Inspector, before turning to his Detective Sargent.

Sergeant. send a man down to the drivers abode, the information should be acquired from the registration from the plates they so handily left.

The Constable cleared his throat, actually my partner Archie already called it in Sir.

The inspector raised an eyebrow, Glad to see someone is on the ball.

The police radio crackles, the constable goes to answer it.

He comes back, standing smartly at attention.

Just received a call, they found the husband and wife tied up in their basement.

Apparently two men posing as a postal worker and driver held them up.

The ones who robbed the bride and her party? Constable?

No sir, apparently the two who brought them here were imposters.

The real uns were held them up at gunpoint, made to strip to their underthings and tied up.

Then Two others, man and woman, took the Trolly to the Manor to “pick up” the Bride and her Bridesmaids.

Has a statement been taken? Yes sir, but there is not much.

Thieves were disguised as postal workers. House was ransacked, safe looted, wife jewel case cleaned out, the usual.

After burgling their manor, the occupants were stripped to their skivvies, trussed up and locked in their basement cannery.

Then a call came in on their telephone, the thieves answered it. After they hung up, the husband heard their phone used to call us, and heard the two thieves leave..

Was anything said by the thieves?

They only overheard the one thing, something one of the postage men said.

Thief posing as one, right constable, don’t want to give anyone a bad rep

Yes sir,

it appears that when the thief - wearing the postman’s costume- answered the phone, he repeated a phrase.

And what would that phrase have been, constable?

Mustard Seed,

Mustard seed? Eh.

Sergeant, the inspector turned to his detective sergeant. That begs the question, why Mustard seed?

The Detective Sergeant mulled it over for a minute. Then offered:

Seed, could be seed money, mustards grow from a small seed into something quite large. This robbery was seed money for something bigger, possibly, sir?

Not bad Sargent, will make an inspector of you yet.

The inspector turns back to the constable, who has had just about enough of his superiors questions.

He is relieved to now hear what the inspector has to say.

Constable, stand pat here while my sergeant and I have a chat with our victims inside,

The inspector turned to his Detective Sergeant :

Let’s get this lot sorted out, and then will we’ll head over and see about the driver and his wife…

The two made their way up towards the decaying deserted manor house.

The Constable, watching them disappear inside, mutters under his breath.

That is an awfully big haul just for seed money. I would be happy with what that lot will get for what they stole. I bet the old man is off target on this one. Thieves probably will be out of the country with the loot and have it pawned in the states by the time he gets done with his questions.

The constable was closer to the truth than he realized…..

Originally the gang planning the heist had meant to carry out the caper then head off to parts unknown with the loot and lay low. During planning the stages of the heist, one of their members infiltrated the group to garner information. Remarks were interestingly overheard by chatting bridesmaids about a lavish affair being staged a fortnight away (only one week after the rehearsal dinner).

From the “seed” planted by that helpful bit of overheard gossip, grew the new job the group was now going to carry out very shortly .

Mustard seed become its code name.

End of Act 3

In addendum

Now we break away from the crime scene to visit an occurrence that took place some two hours prior to the phone call that alerted the police to the unfortunate incident related above.

The scene: Inside a C. Hoare & Co branch, in a posh end of London..

Two ladies, both, opulently dressed in satins and jewels, their thick fur coats have been carefully hung by a smartly dressed lady porter, nearby, had been seated and served. The pair are now alone in a richly furnished private room of the bank. Wine at hand, they are merrily going through a collection of jewelry glistening from an open safe deposit strongbox brought up from the depths of the banks’ vault.

The fashionable, long haired daughter is half-heartedly trying on one of several jewel encrusted Tiaras…… Her stylish, bobbed haired mother is admiring the sparkle of a diamond waterfall style necklace; the pricy jewels’ matching mates, (earrings and bracelets and brooch) are laid out next to her.

The daughter suddenly lest out a squeal of delight as she spy’s a small sparkling ruby and emerald encrusted diamond cocktail ring , which she grabs and slips on her pinky. She admires the raw, rainbow like fireworks as she moves it under the lights.

Mum, can I? it will go ever so nicely with the gown I’m wearing to Polly’s Soiree.

Hey, that was my Great Aunts , her Mother yelps grasping at the ring. Almost looking like Defoe’s Sunday dressed Moll Flanders snatching at the colourful trinket worn by a young miss, awed by the passing parade of royals.

Unlike that distracted young miss, however, the daughter was able to hold the ring high from the reach of Her mother’s fingertips, giggling as she did so.

Now Millicent, her mother lectured, You know we don’t approve of young Lady Pollyanna’s fancy boy, Raul. He would probably manage a way to slip the ring from off your finger.

Oh, MaMa, , answered Millicent, I’ll be ever so careful, and please don’t you harp on poor Raul. He really is quite a dear, and the pearls were simply lost, nothing more. Let me wear the ring, and I’ll wear whatever jewelry you pick out for me the weekend, Sagely bargained Millicent.

Promise? Her mother asks, relenting in to her daughter’s wishes. It’s just that we don’t you making publicity over getting robbed just before your occasion.

Mum, Millicent says soothingly, nothing will happen to me before my Debs Ball, or occasion as you will call it. She bent over and kissed her mother on the forehead, before going back to her admiration of the pretty ring.

But innocently enough, pretty Millicent has no idea of the prophetic canniness her naively made promise to her mother would soon foretell.

The Beemster is the first so-called polder in the Netherlands that was reclaimed from a lake, the water being extracted out of the lake by windmills. The Beemster Polder was dried during the period 1609 through 1612. It has preserved intact its well-ordered landscape of fields, roads, canals, dykes and settlements, laid out in accordance with classical and Renaissance planning principles. A grid of canals parallels the grid of roads in the Beemster. The grids are offset: the larger feeder canals are offset by approximately one kilometer from the larger roads.

Because of its historical relevance, and because the original structure of the area is still largely intact, the Beemster was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1999. Justification for Inscription is as follows:

Criterion (i): The Beemster Polder is a masterpiece of creative planning, in which the ideals of antiquity and the Renaissance were applied to the design of a reclaimed landscape.

Criterion (ii): The innovative and intellectually imaginative landscape of the Beemster Polder had a profound and lasting impact on reclamation projects in Europe and beyond.

Criterion (iv): The creation of the Beemster Polder marks a major step forward in the interrelationship between humankind and water at a crucial period of social and economic expansion.
