Sloppy Joe's Bar is a historic American bar in Key West, Florida.
The bar went through two name changes before settling on Sloppy Joe's with the encouragement of Hemingway. The name was taken from the original Sloppy Joe's bar in Old Havana, that sold both liquor and iced seafood. In the high Cuban heat, the ice melted
and patrons taunted the owner José (Joe) GarcÃa RÃo that he ran
a "sloppy" place. It's the favorite fun bar of both locals and tourists.
(It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on 11/1/06)

Are you telling me that Jimmy Buffett has other songs besides "Margaritaville"? Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying.
I had something else for today, but when I saw the "Wasting Away Again In Margaritaville" title for the group today, I decided to load up one of my favorite Key West images! This was taken in July of 2004 in Mallory Square during the infamous "Sunset Celebration!" I've partaken in quite a few of these celebrations and I have to say, on this particular occasion, the sunset rocked my socks off!!
When we go to Key West, we always stop in at Magarittaville and belly up to the bar with the rest of the Parrotheads ... and we always catch the cliche tourist celebration!!

I spent this week camping in the English Lake District and the fantastic Nidderdale valley in Yorkshire. The forecast was for rain all week. The two days we had in the lakes benefited from wonderful weather, but when we went to Yorkshire it started to rain as we put up the tent. A torrential downpour lasted for the next 12 hours – the title of this song seemed very apt. Finally the sun burst through – after that it was glorious.
This is the last of the rain on my tent drying up in the bright sun (the burnt highlight on each drop).
I can’t look at this too long – it hurts my eyes.

History: Designed and built by Scarano Boat Inc. in Albany, N.Y., the America 2.0 had big shoes to fill. Its 1995 predecessor, the 139-foot America (now berthed in Santa Barbara) won the hearts and minds of many islanders on and off the docks. That ship replicated the original America, a 101-foot sailing vessel that won an 1851 race against 15 yachts of the Royal Yacht Squadron in what would become known forever as the "America's Cup" in honor of that ship. The 1851 original America ended up a blockade-runner for the Confederacy and after the Yankees seized her, became a blockade-buster for the federals. She remained government property until falling victim to a shed collapse in 1945, and with the shed was scrapped and burned. A 170-year history with two replicas built.
America 2.0 (105 feet) replaced the 1995 replica schooner America (139 feet). The '95 replica is now berthed in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The America 2.0, the Adirondack III, the Western Union, the Appledore and many other tall ships are credited with helping
to keep Key West's maritime traditions alive for years to come.

A hurricane is a severe tropical storm that starts east of the International Date Line (Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico) and a typhoon is a severe tropical storm that starts west of this line (Pacific Ocean, China Sea). It's all semantics.

Jimmy Buffett bought the Falcon 900B in 2004. This jet is not the first Falcon that Buffett has owned, however. He had a Falcon 50, N502JB, before upgrading to the 900.
Jimmy holds a DA-50 type rating, meaning he is qualified to act as pilot-in-command of the Falcon.
This image depicts John Denver and Jimmy Buffett playing together at a concert that never happened. The two singer-songwriters were friends, and Buffett frequently split his time between Key West and Aspen, which John Denver called home. Buffett also recorded Denver's song "Rocky Mountain High" with his Coral Reefer Band. Had the concert depicted in this image taken place, I can easily imagine them singing Denver's ode to Jacques Costeau, "Calypso," which would fit perfectly with Buffett's lifestyle. With their loyal fans, what a concert it would have been. . . Although Denver died in 1997 at the age of 53, this image depicts what I imagine he would have looked like around 2013, at which time he would have been 70 years old.

After a client shoot this morning with their products and ice, I was not going to let a good setup go to waste. I ran to the local grocery store, picked up some of my favorite Island Style Lager, and shot it for Flickr! After all the weather here today is rainy and dreary, so I'm stuck inside for the time being. To top it off, the leaves are blowing off the trees before I can get my Autumn landscapes too! GRRR!

Title: Arbutus Wreck off Key West
Date: 1985
Accompanying Note: "The Arbutus was an old 175' to 180' Coast Guard buoy tender that was owned by Mel Fisher's Treasure Salvors operation and used as a 'Sentry' vessel over the Atocha wreck site following the capsizing of the tug boat North Wind, which claimed the lives of several people including one of Mel's sons and daughter-in-law. Later on, the Arbutus was towed to the 'Quicksand's', west of the Marquesas, and was used as one of Mel Fishers tower ships. These ships were used as reference points in searching the wreck site. Once, while as the 'Sentry' vessel over the Atocha wreck, it was accidently strafed and bombed by a reserve Navy squadron out of Tennessee. Remarkable, they didn't hit the ship or it's startled occupant. The vessel sank of it's own accord at it's current location in the Quicksand's. It was also used by Jimmy Buffett for a back cover shot for his record album 'Songs You Should Know By Heart'."
