A week or two before this beautiful morning, a desperate small group of Cubans quietly came ashore during the night looking for democracy and the hope for a better life in The United States. The State hadn't even removed the raft from the jetty yet, right here at Jimmy's Palms. So sad, the desperation. I was emotionally touched and felt their extreme desperation while taking this sad image, right here at my favorite sunrise location in Paradise. I wish them well.

*[that looks like a big block '56 Chevy Car Engine right in the
middle of the raft! Can you just imagine how very loud and
unsafe that must have been, with a dozen people sitting on the
50-gallon drums around it, over a 90-mile ocean voyage!?!]
*[in examining the watercraft-vessel closely I noticed that their small propeller is completely gone; damaged, shredded, and non-existent. They either hit the bottom, rocks, or something in the water during their ninety-mile sea voyage. That means that at some point they were drifting in the current of the gulf stream with wooden paddles!]
*[Update 1/3/23 - This New Year's Eve Weekend, hundreds of Cuban Migrants showed up in dozens of assorted small watercraft on the beaches of un-inhabited islands throughout the Dry Tortugas National Park which stretches (in the water) 70 miles west of Key West and not very far from the coast of Cuba. So much so, that the entire park system was closed down to 'tourists' this weekend as they monitored the influx of desperate Cubans. God Be with Them.]

(surfacing) down the beach SW here (for a photo)! LOL - Got it!]

These pirates are on their way to the Jimmy Buffett concert at Comcast Center unfazed by the remnants of Hurricane Hannah. The concert was moved up from 8:00 PM to 3:00 PM to avoid the worst of the storm but, don't worry, Comcast Center opened the parking lots at 8:00 AM this morning to allow the pirates plenty of time to do what pirates do.

My favorite "sunrise in paradise" location on Key West. These palms are featured on Jimmy Buffett's A1A album, and the back cover is about 50 yards north of here. While he lived here this was a favorite spot of his and he wrote a few songs here. Have been attempting to get the best shot of these palms for many years. I'm still trying!

I have been a Parrot Head (one who is crazy about Jimmy Buffett music) for many years. I am a scuba diver that loves the ocean. Options the past year for travel for diving have been obviously not available. In the spring, Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band offered free viewings of past concerts over FB.
I really enjoyed those on Friday night recorded concerts at the beginning of the pandemic when we could not leave the house. I know those songs by heart and have fortunately been to quite a few of their concerts. It really lifted my spirits.
I had to go with color and fun on this one. Thought I would position these boat drink stirrers as if they were on a concert stage performing for this challenge. A few lines from the song...

History: Designed and built by Scarano Boat Inc. in Albany, N.Y., the America 2.0 had big shoes to fill. Its 1995 predecessor, the 139-foot America (now berthed in Santa Barbara) won the hearts and minds of many islanders on and off the docks. That ship replicated the original America, a 101-foot sailing vessel that won an 1851 race against 15 yachts of the Royal Yacht Squadron in what would become known forever as the "America's Cup" in honor of that ship. The 1851 original America ended up a blockade-runner for the Confederacy and after the Yankees seized her, became a blockade-buster for the federals. She remained government property until falling victim to a shed collapse in 1945, and with the shed was scrapped and burned. A 170-year history with two replicas built.
America 2.0 (105 feet) replaced the 1995 replica schooner America (139 feet). The '95 replica is now berthed in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The pretty America 2.0, the Adirondack III, the Western Union, the Appledore, the Jolly Rover II and many other tall ships are credited with helping to keep Key West's maritime traditions alive for years
to come. Always a joy to see skimming across Key West Harbor.

The other day I was walking around the local pond and I saw a woman walking an African Grey. The bird wasn't actually walking but riding on the womans arm. I believe the womans name is Sandy and the birds name is forgotten. She said she walks the bird a couple times a week. I was intrigued.
