between the last polaroid and this one, a lot has happened. first we drove to los angeles, where our friend erick was an amazing host to us. he made us whiskey with lemonade which was delicious! v, j and him went out that night, with some of his friends, but i decided to have a quiet evening by myself which was very nice. i swam in the pool, read a bit and had a good night's sleep in his comfy bed. the next day we went out for breakfast with him and his friends, and it was delicous. we also got the chance to go to the beach for a bit, we just walked around on a pier and enjoyed each others company. after that we drove back to his place, his brother came by and we all had a relaxing day at the pool. we totally forgot about time and headed out way too late... while we where driving northbound we listened to erick's radio show, where he dedicated a song to us! we followed highway one and had an amazing view on the setting sun over the pacific ocean. for dinner we stopped at a little restaurant for fish and chips. after another while of driving we all got very tired and as we were passing santa barabara, jed called his sister to ask if she knew a good campsite in the area. we ended up somewhere by 10 pm, put up our tent and happyly laid down to sleep. unfortunatly about and hour later, a ranger came by and woke us up. we had to leave cause our tent was on a picknick area and no official camp spots where available. that was really a bad situation, we were all so frustrated and tired, and naturally there was some fighting as we continued our journey. eventually we found a very windy camping area, where we struggled building up the tent. i was so pissed and just decided to sleep in the car, it was just too stormy. in the end, i slept very well and was happy about my decision.
the next day, july 21st, we continued driving up highway 1. it is really a long and winding road, but probably one of the most beautiful ones on this planet. we passed big sur, and stopped at a beach near monterey. after that we drove inland towards turlock, where we arrived in the evening. there jed dropped victoria and myself of at in and out burger. we must have looked kind of stranded, with all our luggage on the parking space. but not much later, ben came to pick us up. we had some good burgers and then ben drove us to cory and jenna, where we stayed for some time. then cory drove to the campus with us to visit ben at the radio station. we hung out there till the show was over, after that ben drove us to victoria's parents place. they did not know we were coming, it was quiet late already, but they welcomed us so nicely. i was really amazed by how kind they were. her dad went to sleep pretty soon, her mother, victoria and myself were sitting on the porch for some more time. ben came back for a bit as well.
the next day we tried to organize a place to stay for san francisco, where we planned to go that day. after all, we decided to stay in turlock for another day, because we could only get a hotel in san francisco for the following day. during our second day in turlock we hung out with billie, petted some puppies, drove to a river and in the evening went to a little get-together at joel's place, ben's friend and his sisters boyfriend. i remember i had a very good time playing fussball, and i was scared when i saw a black widow!
the next day we finally managed to say goodbye to turlock and made our way to san francisco. after a lot of back and forth, ben decided to come with us. we arrived at our hotel happily and soon made our way to the city. this picture was taken in the hallway of the hotel in san francisco.
Heading into New Orleans, I knew I wanted to take a photo-documentary approach to my work. In our week there, Jed was the most intriguing person I encountered. Complete with his own painful past, he was exactly the type of photo-worthy person I had hoped to meet.

I’ve only worn these overalls three times, and every time it was to see my friend Jed!
Obviously, I need to continue wearing these overalls whenever I see him. I’ll keep it up until it gets weird…and then I’ll do it a few more times.
