A short video by one of my favorite jazzmen -- Chet Baker -- tragic life story, but what an artist, coming of age as a Cool Jazz, West Coast trumpeter in the early 1950s with sax player Gerry Mulligan. Baker early on surpassed Miles Davis in popularity, and once during a studio session, fooling around between takes, asked the producer if he could sing a little. No one knew he could sing, and as his soft and plaintive voice filled the studio, a new aspect to his career began. He was soon selected as the top jazz vocalist (over Nat King Cole) in a 1954 Downbeat Magazine readers' poll. youtu.be/0ybMVHeJZ7w

Die 70 neuen Elektrotriebwagen der Reihe ETR 425, die seit Beginn des Jahres 2014 sukzessive an verschiedene italienische Regionen ausgeliefert werden, promotet Trenitalia unter dem klangvollen Namen "Jazz". Wie schon die mittlerweile weit verbreiteten "Minuetti" entstammen sie der Coradia-Produktfamilie von Alstom und werden im piemontesischen Savigliano gefertigt.

Am 22. Oktober 2014 - einem sonnigen Herbsttag, an dem allerdings ein eiskalter Wind wehte - überraschte uns eine Einheit im Fahrgastbetrieb auf der Tendabahn, nicht allzu weit von der Fertigungsstätte entfernt.

Als Regionale 4329 (Fossano - Limone) passiert der Zug die aufwendige Streckenführung bei Vernante, wo das Gleis zunächst mittels eines Kehrtunnels an Höhe gewinnt und dann auf einem großen Viadukt den Weiler Tetto Salet überquert. Links im Bild ist noch die untere Ebene erkennbar...
