Taughannock Falls is located in Ulysses, NY, part of the popular Finger Lakes Region of central New York. The falls is part of Taughannock State Park located between the Village of Trumansburg (part of the Ulysses Township), and the city of Ithaca. The falls cataract has an incredible drop of 215 feet (66 meters), and is one of the highest east of the Rocky Mountains.

Ithaca Falls is a waterfall located within the city of Ithaca, New York. It is the last of a series of waterfalls along the hanging valley formed where Fall Creek intersects the glacial trough of Cayuga Lake. The falls are in an amphitheater formed by freezing and thawing of the weak shale which makes up most of the gorge walls. The splash pool, and the creek just below the falls, are a popular spot for fly fishing.
The area around the base of the falls was owned by Cornell University for many years, before being sold to the City of Ithaca in 2000 as a part of environmental cleanup. The area has been a popular, if dilapidated, park for many years; currently it is undergoing a major redesign and rebuild. In June 2016, the Ithaca Common Council voted to demolish a house directly north of the falls and add the parcel to the park. The city had acquired the house after the owner failed to pay property taxes.
The falls is present as the stylized "I" in the "Ithaca is Gorges" logo.

Our goal was to get a few drone photos of the ITHR switching Cargill salt, along with the return trip south to Ithaca. However due to delays with loading of salt trucks this is the best we could do.

This is the Ithaca Commons. It's a walking street that doesn't allow any motorized vehicles. I like this area it's always so quiet and beautifully decorated.
I decided to make two things that I read in some trashy magazine the philosophy of my life for today.
Those being something about "Life being too short to stay indoors" and "Life being too short for a Cornell education".
And so I set out to capture the gorgeous gorges and creeks running crazy all around Ithaca and Cornell. This was a trail that had been closed ever since I came here and has been opened only a few weeks earlier. I was all excited to try slow shutters, but I didnt realize it would be so cold, so very cold although I thought I was fully prepared with my thermos and all. When you freeze yourself along with your camera for continuous long exposure shots in a totally shady creek on a winter day, I realize you will some day succeed in freezing yourself to death. :)
Anyways, I am happy with some of the shots that have turned out. Though too bad that I dont have photoshop and cannot tweak around the photos as much as I would have liked to.
Quando ti metterai in viaggio per Itaca
devi augurarti che la strada sia lunga,
fertile in avventure e in esperienze.
I Lestrigoni e i Ciclopi
o la furia di Nettuno non temere,
non sara` questo il genere di incontri
se il pensiero resta alto e un sentimento
fermo guida il tuo spirito e il tuo corpo.
In Ciclopi e Lestrigoni, no certo,
negli empori fenici indugia e acquista
madreperle coralli ebano e ambre
tutta merce fina, anche profumi
penetranti d'ogni sorta; piu' profumi inebrianti che puoi,
va in molte citta` egizie
impara una quantita` di cose dai dotti.
Sempre devi avere in mente Itaca -
raggiungerla sia il pensiero costante.
Soprattutto, non affrettare il viaggio;
fa che duri a lungo, per anni, e che da vecchio
metta piede sull'isola, tu, ricco
gia` tu avrai capito cio` che Itaca vuole significare.

When you set out on your journey to Ithaca,
pray that the road is long,
full of adventure, full of knowledge.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the angry Poseidon -- do not fear them:
You will never find such as these on your path,
if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine
emotion touches your spirit and your body.
The Lestrygonians and the Cyclops,
the fierce Poseidon you will never encounter,
if you do not carry them within your soul,
if your soul does not set them up before you.
Pray that the road is long.
That the summer mornings are many, when,
with such pleasure, with such joy
you will enter ports seen for the first time;
stop at Phoenician markets,
and purchase fine merchandise,
mother-of-pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensual perfumes of all kinds,
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
visit many Egyptian cities,
to learn and learn from scholars.
Always keep Ithaca in your mind.
To arrive there is your ultimate goal.
But do not hurry the voyage at all.
It is better to let it last for many years;
and to anchor at the island when you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches.
Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage.
Without her you would have never set out on the road.
She has nothing more to give you.
And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not deceived you.
Wise as you have become, with so much experience,
you must already have understood what Ithacas mean
Costantino P. Kavafis (1911)
With a drop of 150ft and width of 175ft, Ithaca Falls is the region’s most powerful and most impressive.
By 1817, a half-dozen mills were operating here, their ruins are still visible on the south bank.
The weather here in Upstate, NY has been pretty nice so far this summer. It hasn't been overly hot or humid. The air quality is good and the sun is shining a lot. I'm glad I live here, it's a great place to be.

This Community garden is here for those folks who don't have room for a food garden. Whenever we drive past I always see people there. Sometimes there are groups of children working in the gardens learning how to grow food. I think teaching kids at a young age how to do this is a brilliant idea!
I was told later by my sister (she works at this Walmart) that this display was removed for safety reasons.
