Winding architecture that casts its shadow and laundry hung up to dry is part of the Italian way of life. I love it!
SASSI DI MATERA - The most spectacular City in Italy, the ancient neighbourhoods, known as sassi, are a series of grottoes carved out of limestone, teetering on the edge of a ravine.
Until the 1950s, Matera was a source of shame for Italy, a place of poverty, malaria and high rates of infant mortality, where people lived in caves without electricity, running water or sewage and indesperate conditions were people living in; between 1953 and 1968 about half of the 30,000 population were moved to new homes in the modern part of the city.
MATERA - .
An old nest behind broken glass, inside a window that will never open again. Even nature has given up here, leaving behind a quiet reminder of what once was.
The Bridge of Sighs (Italian: Ponte dei Sospiri, Venetian: Ponte de i Sospiri) is a bridge in Venice, Italy. The enclosed bridge is made of white limestone, has windows with stone bars, passes over the Rio di Palazzo, and connects the New Prison (Prigioni Nuove) to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace.
(Kodai no Hōki sa reta Masseria) - The Ancient Abandoned Masseria -
"Once the vibrant heart of Apulian rural life, this masseria now stands as a silent witness to the past. Its weathered walls tell stories of harvest seasons, distant voices, and a diligence now forgotten. Under a sky heavy with clouds, nature reclaims its place, weaving life and decay into an eternal embrace."
What a game that was!
Un'estate italiana
it probably won't be a song
to change the rules of the game
but I want to live this adventure like this
having no limits and with my heart in my throat
The world is full of colors
and the wind caresses the flags
a shiver comes and it carries you away
and it cools down the madness in an embrace
magic nights
following a goal
under the sky
of an Italian summer
And in your eyes
the desire to win
a summer
one more adventure
That dreams that starts when you're [just] a kid
and that takes you always further
it's not a fairy tale
it comes from the locker rooms
the guys come out and it's us
magic nights
following a goal
under the sky
of an Italian summer
And in your eyes
the desire to win
a summer
one more adventure.
Gianna Nannini Edoardo Bennato - Un' estate Italiana ( Worldcup song Italia90 )
notti magiche
inseguendo un goal
sotto il cieto
di un'estate italiana
E negli occhi tuoi
voglia di vincere
un' estate
un avventura in piu
Quel sognio che comincia da bambino
e che ti porta sempre piu lontano
non e una favola - e diagli spogliatoi
escono i ragazza e siamo noi
notti magiche
inseguendo un goal
sotto il cielo
di un'estate italiana
E negli occhi tuoi
voglia di vincere
un' estate
un avventura in piu
notti magiche
inseguendo un goal
sotto il cielo
di un'estate italiana
E negli occhi tuoi
voglia di vincere
un' estate
un avventura in piu
un avventura
un avventura in piu
(Mura no seinikuten)
The village butcher shop
In the small towns of Northern Italy, where streets empty in the early afternoon and time seems to flow at a different pace, the signs of old shops withstand the years and changes. Here, among weathered buildings and closed shutters, traditional butcher shops and delicatessens still survive—places where the counter has seen generations of loyal customers.
Despite the rise of supermarkets and retail chains, there are still places where commerce is built on trust, quick conversations at the register, and prices written by hand on yellowed slips of paper.
A little online research reveals that there are four types of lizard to be found on the isle of Sicily. Two, the Sicilian wall Lizard and the Italian wall lizard are very similar in appearance. As far as I can tell this example which was photographed at the wonderful Vendacari Nature Reserve is an Italian Wall Lizard. It's size for one thing, having a body (not including the tail) of around six inches was the most obvious factor in my decision process.
From what I have read, this species has been introduced widely in other countries ands has become an unwanted pest. It breeds quickly and outcompetes other local wildlife.
