Isolation of three different species: The large, cloudy colonies are Bacillus thurengiensis, the small white dots are Staphylococcus aureus, and the darker, marble-y looking circles are Escherichia coli. Also the bright yellow dots are skin contaminant. Whoops :P
A strawberry patch in Surrey. It was actually quite busy, but I managed to get a shot with nobody else in it. Don't worry about my daughter, she was fine and happily snacking on the strawberries!

This one breaks my heart. He is painfully isolated, mostly through his own doing, and horribly aware of it. He looks straight at the camera (and me) but there is no connection, no interaction there.
There are lonelier and more despair ridden situations. But. Being the last person waiting at the baggage carousel. With all the bags claimed. And nothing else coming out from behind the car wash strips. Is one of the loneliest feelings a human being can experience.
Everyone else from the flight got their luggage. The perceived "we're a group for the duration of this flight until we get our luggage " togetherness has ended. They were greeted with hugs and kisses in the baggage area, their luggage snaked its way to them on the carousel, their friends and family who greeted them helped them retrieve their luggage. They left all smiles and happiness and are now motoring to their warm cozy homes, even as you still stand there waiting, hoping for one last suitcase, yours, to pop out through the suitcase birth canal. Alone, you stand there waiting, gazing at the car wash strips. In a state of both denial an disaffected acceptance. This has happened in the past, it will happen again. Life sucks, no one's there to greet you at the airport, the airline loses your luggage, and then you die. Rinse. Lather. Repeat.
You know what you're facing: A smackdown with an airline rep who will insist your bag is not lost you just forgot what it looks like and that you should just go back and wait and even if it doesn't show up the airline is not responsible for it and it's all your fault for taking luggage on a trip and did you actually read the luggage waiver when you purchased your ticket because if you did you'd know the airline is not responsible for anything.
So you just stand there sickly pale under the florescent glow of the bare overhead lights. Gate arrival and Homeland Security announcements punctuating the silence. Alone. Clinging to the ticket jacket with the luggage claim sticker affixed to it. You know it's not going to appear. But you can't make your feet move to the lost luggage claim counter. You go over the contents of your suitcase. Is there anything in there you can't live without? You weigh the pros and cons of dealing with a passive aggressive airline baggage agent v. just mutinying the whole situation and writing off the suitcase and its contents v. climbing through the car wash flap to the Chamber of Secrets to see for yourself what's going on back there and why, of all the suitcases and boxes and golf clubs and skis and baby carriers your suitcase was the lone piece of luggage which did not make it from the flight to its final destination.
There are lonelier situations. But not many.
Shot on a Pentax ESII, SMC Takumar 105/2.8 and Agfa Optima 100 film.
Expired Agfa Optima 100 - best before 1999, says the packet - but it's held up well.
Short DOFS is my favorite tool to isolate the eyes.
Not sure if I liked this one at first, but I´m kinda diggin' it.
Next time I will do this with a reflector and not be in a rush.
My life feels so derailed and it's not getting better. I do lots of praying and lots of crying. Been burning so much sage the smell is in my hair.
I said to friends that I feel like I'm at a rodeo I'm not at all familiar with, after really I feel like I'm in a boxing match with the heavy weight champion of the world and I'm getting the shit beat out of me.
I feel like I've aged so much in a matter of days, shaved years off my life and I did everything right. I was adherent to care, never missed a dose of medication, unless I didn't have access to it and this time not having access to it could very well end my life or I'm going to have to deal with other medical things I've never dealt with before and have no history of in my family.
The only thing this has to do with Covid is that everything cannot be focused on it. Especially when millions are already battling other conditions.
Gotta love SketchUp. I've finally started building my basement isolation booth/project studio.
The angled sections of wall are Pythagorean triple lengths on the inner dimensions - the wall face is exactly 5' wide.
I'm adding a 2' wide space for reconfigurable "room I/O" to each of the two 5' walls. That should make it easier to mount ventilation, electrical, networking and/or a small window. I'll add some sort of threaded bolt-holes to the inner and outer walls so things are securely mounted and I can get a firm pressure-seal to keep things reasonably isolated.
It's more of an experimental (and non-permanent) space than specifically an isolation booth, so I'm not worried as much about maximizing the isolation and perfecting the acoustics all in one shot.
We're Here visiting "Isolation"
The theme is weirdly fitting at the moment, at which Cuenca is isolated from the rest of Ecuador ..

We have been via the mill through the years with quite a lot of Alien video games beginning with the Pac-Man styled Alien again in 1982 via to the latest Alien Isolation: Blackout for mobiles. Some good some…nicely allow us to say they made me die a bit inside *cough* Colonial Marines *cough*. As an enormous fan of the Alien franchise and gamer of earlier video games it was with some trepidation I picked up Alien: Isolation…and I’m so glad I did. It was the Alien sport I had been ready for and it delivered on so many ranges.
As this 12 months is the 40th anniversary of Alien, I assumed it could be a good suggestion to take a look again at what, for me, is one of the best Alien online game on the market.
Alien: Isolation picks up 15 years after the 1979 Alien movie. You play as Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Ellen Ripley and he or she’s each bit as badass as her mom. The predominant premise is that you’re investigating the disappearance of your mom, however in the end it turns into all about survival. Straight away I used to be impressed by the nods to the Alien film and the way it appeared to copy the environment and rigidity extraordinarily nicely. With using DOS-based futuristic computer systems and scan screens it encompasses an excessive amount of the unique film. The orchestral rating lends itself in direction of an nearly palpable rigidity that builds and builds regardless of by no means truly seeing the Alien for a protracted whereas. The aesthetics of the station, from the bulkheads to the smoke and fog hissing from vents and piping, encapsulates every part I wished in an Alien sport.
Watch the official Alien: Isolation launch trailer beneath:
Initially the sport generally is a little bit of a grind to be trustworthy. This is principally right down to it taking some time for the xenomorph to point out up, nonetheless upon reflection that is truly fairly a intelligent use of rigidity and lulls you in to a false sense of safety and complacency. Once the Alien does seem the faecal matter hits the fan and the sport totally hits its stride. It turns into one of the vital tense and worrying video games I’ve performed and therein lies the great thing about the Alien, it’s completely unscripted. You have no idea when, the place or the way it will seem. The slightest noise and you’ll count on it to seem shortly to mess you up. It will lie in wait, or just stalk into the room you might be in, forcing you to attend on baited breath for it to depart as you sit sweating in a locker or crouched beneath a desk and don’t get me began on getting into air vents (brown trouser time).
The gameplay and controls are all stable, though when you’re a run and gun kind of gamer neglect it. This is principally a stealth survival sport because the xenomorph is impervious to all of your weapons and can’t be killed, however folks and synthetics can if you’re that means inclined. Yet once more, one other tick in my field was the alternatives you’ve gotten on the way you play the sport. You can go via unobserved and never harming a dwelling particular person, kill each single human and artificial on the station or, like I admit I did, fireplace a shot round some unhealthy guys, conceal in a locker and let the Alien do the soiled work.

You do finally get weapons comparable to Molotov’s and pipe bombs, which may deter the alien for a short while permitting you a fast sprint to security of a locker or storage cupboard. With it rapidly reappearing in your final location and forcing you to attend it out, that is one among biggest strengths of the sport: the alien AI. It appears to study your playstyle and adapts, forcing you to adapt. The beeping in your movement tracker can go away you sat in a locker for 15 minutes ready it out or it could possibly merely seize you from a vent that you’ve got missed the saliva dripping from.
This isn’t with out its points although, the story is nice and I loved the Nostromo logs left by the previous crew. However, after 8-10 hours the alien can turn out to be extra annoying than scary and the stress you felt initially begins to wane barely. Don’t get me unsuitable I loved this to the bitter finish however it did turn out to be barely like I used to be hopping from phone to phone to save lots of my progress earlier than the alien got here again and aggravated me some extra. The hacking minigames did begin to grate on me, however I’ve by no means been a fan of minigames and that’s simply private style. Yet nonetheless even after hours enjoying the sport the sound results of the hiss of the alien, beep of the movement tracker and rattling of the vents makes positive you by no means loosen up and name me a masochist however I loved that.

Towards the top I did really feel the sport fell aside considerably, with the arrival of the flamethrower it grew to become far simpler and some events I felt the sport had ended however carried on. The fixed again monitoring via the ship can turn out to be tedious at occasions however as a Dark Souls fan this isn’t one thing that bothered me tremendously alongside dying, and I imply so much. At the top of the sport, the conclusion felt barely lacklustre and has left me hopeful for an entire console and PC sequel. I’ve since performed the sport via a couple of occasions on the onerous and survival modes they usually do add extra replay worth, particularly with the leaderboard.
All in all I loved Alien: Isolation, in a sadistic sort of means. If the Alien universe, survival horror or being killed repeatedly from an air vent is your factor then I might undoubtedly advocate it, particularly as its low-cost as chips proper now and with the discharge of Alien: Blackout for mobiles and tablets, it’s an excellent start line for what I for one hope will likely be a stable franchise.
