Taken near Bluerocks, below Halifax, Nova Scotia. Not sure what the building's used for, maybe a fishing shack.

The Small White Lady's Slipper (Cypripedium candidum) is a rare, endangered, perennial orchid with tiny white flowers that occurs in isolated patches in Ontario. As with all orchids, fungus found in the soil are interdependent for their nourishment and survival. The orchid requires approximately three years to produce its first leaf and as many as 16 years to produce its first flower after germination. The species is capable of extended dormancy, surviving underground for as long as six years, until suitable conditions occur for above ground growth.

It is important to be aware of the ecological sensitivity of the location. I stay on the trails and minimize my impact on the environment at all times. I practice wildflower-friendly photo techniques only, to prevent damage to flowers and their habitat. Copyright © Kim Toews/All Rights Reserved.

Haven't done a b/w post or a country post in awhile, so here it is! This looks like it might be in the desert, but actually it is in the Thumb area of Michigan. It is an old school, I liked its "isolated" feel so made this b/w.

Soft pastel tones of the dawn sky at Dovercourt, Harwich UK. Longish exposure to smooth the water out using the 10 stop ND filter and almost a cloudless sky to complete the minimalist look.

Memories of Maui!! It was a wonderful island to visit and spend some quality time. Would definitely like to return one of these years.

A passing storm provides the dramatic background to a solitary tree.

Shot using Canon FD 50mm lens set at F 1.4 to isolate the grass stem and produce a blurred background.

As the moon rose above Spitbank Fort it emphasised the isolation of the location. The former sea defence turned hotel is only 2km off Portsmouth but looks like it could be anywhere... or nowhere.

Single exposure using borrowed 50D w/ 100-400L. Minor exposure & contrast adjustments only; uncropped.

It’s March. May-like warmth and summer dryness. The water level of the Danube is so low that you can walk in the riverbed in the side branches. Many insects have come to life, bees are searching for flowers, but there are still few flowers.

Back out with the Raynox today, which is definitely where I feel the most comfortable when I'm behind the lens.

This shot was taken with the camera on the floor to get some nice foreground bokeh.

Thanks for taking the time to visit. Any comments or faves are appreciated

I'm not entirely happy with this shot; it doesn't pop as much as I'd like but this shot has a very limited window to capture so I figured I'd just try today and see what happens.

Not perfect, but it does show off some of the autumn colours.

This is 4 photos stitched together so an oddly shaped panorama but it frames the tree nicely so I think it works.

Anyway, hope everyone has had a good day.

Somehow this one lone tree managed to grow up in the middle of this field.

Another version of the Hamburger Hallig at the North-Sea coast of Germany.

After Chicago & North Western sold its lines between Milwaukee and Green Bay to Fox River Valley, two of its lines were isolated: from Duck Creek (Green Bay) to Escanaba and Ishpeming, and Duck Creek to Wausau. The lines to the north were sold to WC after the UP takeover, but the Wausau line was eventually torn up.

In the summer and fall of 1992, C&NW used FRVR (ex-C&NW) GP30s, plus some of its own GP7/9s to serve to isolated line. The line was 10 mph, with trains running east and west and meeting at Shawano. On Sept. 24, 1992, this is the eastbound WUGBA crossing the WC (ex-Soo) at Shawano, Wis. after meeting the westbound.

This was taken on a recent visit to Shellness to see the birdlife on this isolated part of the Isle of Sheppey. These shacks were spotted and looked a good subject. After trying several views I settled on this one which gave a sense of the wider landscape, on the boundary between land and sea. Used Nik Siver Effects Pro emphasise the sky and the marram grass.

Shot at dusk in Arniston.

I really am longing for Spring, Summer, and even Fall - but mainly Spring & Summer.

I love the pretty flowers, and bright green grass, and I love seeing all of our trees full of leaves instead of just having bare branches.

This is another old shot, that I decided to re-edit.

Explore - thank you so much!!
