Stakna Monastery is situated on the right bank of the Himalayan Indus River, Ladakh. The location easily accessible by road with a distance of approximately 25 km from the town of Leh, founded by Chosje Jamyang Palkar in 16th century, the great scholar saint of Bhutan. The name, 'Stakna' literally means 'tiger's nose'. The monastery was so named because it was built on a hill, which is shaped just like a tiger's nose.

In Winona, MN, the Chicago & Northwestern Railway once had quite a presence. But now it's 1993, and the Soo Line runs the mainline in town and the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern have what use to be the C&NW to the west. The CNW to the east is long gone since the tunnel collapse at Tunnel City, WI. Rights from there were obtained over the Soo to reach Winona via LaCrosse and the CNW yard that remain. Another benefit was that the DME had to bring their trains in and out of the CNW at Winona because there was no connection or interchange with the Soo. This enabled the CNW to make a few bucks off the interchange rates from both the DME and Soo Line. Pretty smart, eh? In this shot we find a lonely geep isolated from the rest of the CNW doing it's daily routine rolling along East Front st. toward a mill along the mighty Mississippi and other businesses of Winona. To this day, Union Pacific continues this practice with a tri weekly freight to Winona from Tunnel City over the CP, but in town the tracks are all theirs, however since CP has bought the DME, they placed a direct connection between the ex CNW and ex MILW tacks thus eliminating UP's interchange fees.

I really do love clouds.

This is how I'm feeling these days.

All over Norway you see houses/cottages perched in the strangest places, for example driving along one side of a fjord you will often notice a building on the other side, my first thought, and kinda never got answered, was how the hell do they get there (to build it or even visit it), there is no road and often its way out in the middle of nowhere. I did see one place on the otherside of a river which had a cool zip-line( flying fox for you aussies ;) ) with a big bucket across it.

So, here is one of these places, there was one road on this side of the fjord and I pretty sure there was not on the other, definitely no zipline across here either, this one was pretty neat since it was nicely position with the mountains, you can also see a little kummune way over the lake and of course, that rather large flow of ice down a hill, sometimes referred to as a glacier :)

St Cwyfan's Church, Llangwyfan Wales. Dating from the 12th century,[1] St Cwyfan's church is dedicated to Saint Kevin, who founded the monastery at Glendalough in County Wicklow, Ireland.[2] The church originally stood at the end of a peninsula between two bays, Porth Cwyfan and Porth China. In later years the sea slowly eroded around the coast in the two bays, therefore the peninsula was cut off, turning Cribinau into a small tidal island. As a consequence, a causeway was built to the island to allow the local population to get to the church

Another lonesome and unusual tree i found in a field not too far off the Whittliemuir Walk, just on the outskirts of Howwood. This windswept tree doesn't have much of a trunk. Shot taken beginning of march :-)

Beautiful setting for a dwelling along Norway's coastline between Alesund and Narvik.

Taken at Icelandic dusk 15 minutes from Vik . The rock formation in the distance is Dyrholaey though the hole in the formation couldn't be seen from this particular angle. I probably should have moved the rock a little further up for composition but I'm guessing I was a little tired at the time. White waves on black sand is nothing like I've seen before (like many things in iceland)

On the way down to Armadale the other day I stopped off to photograph this scene. I know I've taken this view many times before but I can't find any of the images. Perhaps I didn't think they were good enough, Anyhow, I'm fairly satisfied with these so here they are. I can't make my mind up which crop I prefer so I've put up both of them.

I usually like to give some information about the scenes I photograph but in this instance none of my maps cover this one. I would have liked to know any details about the cottage and what the snow covered mountain in the background is. Perhaps some viewers can help me out. What I can say is that the cottage is a few miles south of Kinloch Lodge.

PS On reflection I think I prefer this wider angle shot as it gives more of an impression of how isolated the cottage is.

Steptoe Butte supports a lonely, isolated chunk of native vegetation in a sea of agriculture. Steptoe Butte is essentially the top of an old mountain that has been partially buried by the thick loess soils that make the Palouse region such a productive agricultural area---an unfortunate fact for the native prairie ecosystem.
