I traveled from Kansas to Des Moines Iowa a few weeks ago to attend the Iowa State Fair. It was my first time to visit this Fair and I had a really nice time with a couple of friends from work. One of my favorite events was the horse trials, the riders are challenged to go through a series of commands and obstacles and it is a very cool event to watch. Here a young lady prepares her horse for their turn. Captured using a Contax RX 35mm camera on JCH 400 film. Developed with D76 at 1:1 dilution.

West Bound... (Amish Farms)

This set is down Iowa county road C57 from Janesville to just outside of Hazleton. I like this stretch for the many older farms and the last 4 miles or so of Amish farms along the road.

We did detour into Fairbank Iowa to stock up on some top quality (award winning) meats from the Fairbank Locker. If your ever in the area please stop by. All quality meats and see the wall full of the awards thier Jerky, Beef sticks, summer sausages, and many other products have won

Also note that this is the first set with all new presets for Luminance HDR and Darktable. I thought it was time to change things up a bit. If you think the old ones were better let me know.

On a muggy summer afternoon in July 2008, IC&E train MCCHU accelerates after leaving the 10 mph territory for the street running in Bellevue, IA. The ICE 6443 and six other ponies roll through the lush, green Iowa countryside as they round a gentle curve.

The MCCHU was a daily manifest that ran from Chicago's Clearing Yard to Huron, SD. The next stop is Dubuque.

In a sea of heavy mist,, our Iowa landscape from 250 feet above the surrounding fields appears to be tiny islands lost . . . adrift! A calm morning in an otherwise windy part of the midwest... it was quite mystical to say the least!

A morning of Celtic Legends..... and gnomes!

I did it again, I couldn't help myself. Chucks in every location - that's okay, right? :)

Iowa Pacific 515 10-05-14 Janesville WI

Iowa Pacific 515, in Illinois Central-inspired orange and chocolate colors, rolls south in the noontime sun with its train on former Milwaukee Road rails past the searchlight signals at Morton Grove. It's the last Sunday of 2014, and 515 and train are deadheading from Janesville, Wisconsin to Bensenville, Illinois.

Old house in Iowa. Jack told me that people used to vote at this house when he was a child it's on the edge of Leon in Decatur County.

Iowa 6988 rounds a curve near Sparland. This train caused chaos on parallel route 29 as foamers were disregarding common sense and parking, stopping, standing and speeding in the middle of the road to get a shot at every grade crossing or bridge on the route.

Since we are moving to Florida next year I've decided to do some back roads shooting here in Iowa. This is the first shot in my "Last Year in Iowa" series.
