In the mid-1990s, Alfred 23 Harth became an active member of Delikatesy Avantgarde, an influential artist group founded by Robert Knuth—closely linked to the networks of the Paul Pozozza Museum. This period marked a vibrant phase in Harth’s interdisciplinary practice, blending music, visual art, performance, and giving lectures at the Gdańsk art academy . In 1994, Delikatesy Avantgarde established a temporary gallery and action space on ul. Piwna in Gdańsk, Poland, serving as a magnet for avant-garde experimentation and East–West artistic dialogue.
Within this context, Harth participated in a series of exhibitions, collective aktion, and concerts that spanned the spring and summer of 1994. These included musical performances alongside artists such as Jerzy Mazzoll, as well as collaborative installations and live actions for group exhibitions such as “Fatamorgana” and “Midnight Shakespeare.” Harth’s saxophone and improvisational presence animated these events, reinforcing the group’s ambition for open, cross-disciplinary exchange in the transforming sociopolitical landscape of 1990s Poland.
In addition to exhibiting and performing, Harth contributed to the pedagogical side of the group by participating in multimedia workshops such as “Projekt Wyspa,” an international gathering of artists and theorists on Gdańsk’s Wyspa Spichrzów. Here, Harth’s teaching intersected with experimental music, art actions, and community engagement, forging connections among artists from Poland and across Europe.
Delikatesy Avantgarde’s activities in Gdańsk—marked by Harth’s unique creative presence—became a locus for avant-garde innovation and intercultural dialogue, and are now remembered as significant contributions to the period’s experimental art scene.
