Sometimes everything is upside down

"What is that, Maddison?" sighed Aunty Kris. It was a long-suffering sigh.

"This?" said Maddison coyly. "Oh, this? Its just a Satanic cross I found."

"It's upside down."

"Oh, yeah, I know."

Aunty Kris sighed again. "And why are you grinning like a fool?"

"Well, I inverted it, see... and it was already inverted... so, like, it's an inverted inverted cross!"

"Oh dear. All the money spent on your education has clearly gone to waste..."

"but you don't pay anything for my education," said Maddison, mystified.

Even under the cloudy skies Blue hour is setting in, with all the excitement done for the day, locals, families, and railfans for the most part have all gone home and off to other adventures with only a few people staying behind to watch the Santa Train depart. The inbound crew is in the process of setting out the two borrowed passenger cars before the outbound crew comes on duty. Shortly the train will depart with the fresh crew and we will be off to Poplar for one more shot of the day... or night depending on how you look at it.

Early morning capture at a salt marsh (Parker River National Wildlife Sanctuary, Plum Island Massachusetts). I’ve inverted the photo - the sky is a reflection off the water. The reflected grass is above the real grass.

I've been away quite a bit these last few weeks so have been largely missing off here.

Last week I a ran a 3 day 1-2-1 tuition session in the Lakes, the first time I've been back into the Lakes since Spring this year, the weather the first two days was largely terrible but we still managed got a lot done, the second day was spent on a laptop doing processing as the rain just did not stop, the third day however was something of a totally different story, I'd looked the night before and thought it looked promising, and I opened the curtains to a world of foggy goodness covering the entirity of Windermere.

This was shot about 15 minutes before sunrise over Skelwith Fold looking towards the Langdale Pikes and beyond, the vally flooded with silky fog and the sky colouring up nicely from the sunsrise to the East.

You literally couldn't have asked for anymore, furthermore the day went onto get better weather wise with still water everywhere and gorgeous golden light, more than making up for the two previous days' drab showings.

Welcome back to Lakeland :-)

The grey lourie, also known as go-away bird, grey loerie, or kwêvoël, is a bold and common bird of the southern Afrotropics. They are present in arid to moist, open woodlands and thorn savanna, especially near surface water. They regularly form groups and parties that forage in treetops, or dust bathe on the ground. Especially when disturbed, they make their presence known by their characteristically loud and nasal "kweh" or "go-way" calls, with the last syllable typically a descending drawl.
