The new year is the year of change, same camera but the computer has changed. Got myself a iMac 27" at last, my first feel is that it's faster in Lightroom than my "old" pc.
Even bought myself a Wacom Intuos Pro, that's the real challenge to learn.

it took a little while until Fabi became relaxed before the camera, but then he turned out to be a real poser. He moved before my lense as if he never did something else before.
as we had bright sun, it was not so easy to be in full control of exposure, but thus the opportunity opened up to play a bit with lights and shadows, here in combination with extreme depth of focus.
since today, I´m in possession of a Wacom graphics tablet. what an increase in freedom of movement retouching the photos in photoshop, using that stylus more like a real pen.. I´ll definitely throw my computer mouse away!

Mon couer s'ouvre a toi
Oh, my heart...
Woke up this morning with a huge grin on my face and hopped on to the computer to create this in honor of my new +LIL Galleries show with the incredible +Karen Hutton
This was a quickie involving only 28 textures and about 35 layers or so.
I will also be creating a start to finish video tutorial of this in honor of my inclusion as a Wacom featured artist on their new inspiration portal www.insivity.com
I'm gonna show you all how to do it using layer masks, blending modes and brushes. I did this with my new Wacom Intuos 5 with multi-touch screen and I can't begin to tell you how much better and more intuitive my creative workflow is as a result. I am officially freaking out over the touchscreen and radial menus functionality. Oh yeah!
So anyway...lots going on that I'm really happy about and want to share.
Start with www.lilgalleries.com and then head over to www.insivity.com
As always, stay inspired.
(And share that which inspires you every chance you get so we all can celebrate along with you)

Strobist info : One strobe through white umbrella at 45° of the right side of the camera at 1/2 and 24mm.
Photoshop process :
Step 1 :Frequency separation technic to work on colours and texture side by side.
Step 2 : Teeth work to make them more white and beautiful.
Step 3 : big fun with fluidity tool on Photoshop. It's amazing how it works easily. I used notably the mask to enlarge or reduce what I exactly wanted.
Step 4 : I cut the background.
Step 5 : Topaz Adjust software for tones and color and Topaz Texture for the background and the leak lights.
Feel free to ask me questions about the process or to comment anything. I would appreciate it.

Today I finally added this app to my mobile digital toolbox. I've read very good things about it and decided to give it a go. I also have added a Wacom Intuos Pressure Sensitive Stylus to my new toys. I'm not happy with it one bit. In fact, I have not been able to get it to synch with my iPad. After the holidays, I believe I'll return it and possibly try the Adonit Jot Stylus. This is painted with a very bottom-of-the-line stylus, not pressure-sensitized. However, I feel comfortable using it with this app.

So as ive mentioned recently ive decided to push mono Long Exposures this year and have had some great inspiration from people such as Joel Tjintjelaar, Julia Anna Gospodarou, Stefanie Loges, Keith Agget & Spencer Brown aswell as others.
After watching Joels great tutorial on his photoshop technique for seascapes i decided i would give it a try and this shot taken on my trip to the Tynemouth Haven just before New Year seemed canny for some jiggery pokery :D
His technique is called Selective Gradient Masking and involves lots of layering and use of the gradient tool to give smooth transitions on various parts of the scene. I have to say ive learned alot but my head was battered doing it and this is actually the second attempt after i made a hash of the selection needed around the Pier.
I kept that one private and just showed a few people for advice on Facebook then after finding a great video on accurate selections with the Wacom/Pen Tablet (wish i'd bloody found it before i spent 5 hours processing) i went about repeating the whole process.
Basically using 3 exposures the normal exposure is used for the pier, darker one for the sky and the lighter for the water. Throughout this process the pier is removed from any adjustments via the selection. It means that when you add gradients to the sky for example they dont effect the pier.
Im getting to know the processes involved in this type of photography so hopefully soon in the coming months i can start to stitch all of this together and produce some really nice shots.
Please check out the people ive mentioned above, their streams are breath taking! :O
Slight sidenote but recently ive been getting sore eyes and obviously Claire blamed her #1 enemy, the Macbook so ive turned the brightness down and im not sure if my shots are actually dark as ive had the screen at full brightness.... Any feedback here would be welcome.
in an effort to simplify my life, i swapped out my old 24" iMac computer for a new 24" LED Cinema Display with built-in iSight, mic, speakers, and magsafe power supply. now i can just dock my new MacBook Pro (which is smaller and faster than my old iMac) without needing any extra cables, and just like that: one computer, two crystal clear, bright as hell monitors, and no need to ever think about syncing hard drives ever again.
and to help along with that... i'm swapping out my old LinkSys wireless router for a 1TB Time Capsule wifi drive. now i have no excuse to ignore Time Machine anymore. (and hopefully the next time i have hard drive failure, i wont be royally F'd in the A like last year)
and yet i STILL don't back up a thing. cuz my middle name is "danger", etc...
I wanted to make a fun cartoon like Shot. I am happy beacuse I think I made it the way I wanted. Feel free to comment.

Title: Wheels of Flame

Been super busy lately planning new shoots and catching up on a series of contracts! I have a couple interesting images that I'm trying to work on but they're taking a lot more time/photoshop effort than I had initially planned and my recent upgrade to Photoshop CS5 has resulted in a lot of crashes making me loose hours and hours of work =(
Not quite a good excuse though!
I actually have around 10 images of this same shooting with Peg, Romy, Cloe and Edith that are ready to be posted up but I've always found it more interesting to vary the images so people don't get bored.... XD
In other news, my upcoming month is pretty free from contracts so I'm toying with the idea of getting back into some deep dark self portraiture and maybe experiment with virtual landscapes and the new Intuos 4 I recently upgraded to. Thoughts?

I bought my Macbook Pro in early 2013, straight from Apple since I wanted it customized to fit my needs. It’s a 15.4”, 2.6Ghz, Intel Core i7 with 8GB Ram. It sports an upgraded 1TB Hybrid Drive and a 1680x1050 display. Connected to the laptop is a Kensington Sd3500v USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station which runs 1 of the 23” LG IPS235 displays, the Logitech Speaker system and allows for more USB connections. The other 23” LG IPS235 display connects directly to the laptop via mini-display port. The LG monitors are held up by a free standing, horizontal, dual monitor mount by EasyMountLCD. The mStand Laptop Stand supports the Macbook Pro. Gracing center stage is a 64Gb iPhone 6+.
Also on my desk is a Wacom Intuos pen & touch small pen tablet, Plantronics M155 MARQUE Bluetooth Headset, Mobee Magic Charger for the Apple Magic Mouse and a 1st generation Pebble Smartwatch. Providing the keys is the solor-powered Logitech k750 keyboard. And of course, the Apple Magic Mouse does all the pointing and clicking. Printing and scanning provided by a humble Canon MG3120. I just finished building the desk and pallet wall this weekend. The desk is a solid 10 feet of amazing desk space, made from 3 2x12x10s. It floats on top of 2 pieces of angle iron and a center speed brace. The partial wall is of course pallets.
