Ahead of their next show "The Joys of Spring" opening tomorrow evening Outline Editions did a quick interview with me last week on nature and my latent desire to get out of London. Head down to Berwick St over the next few weeks to catch the show - there is a fantastic roster of people with affordable art on show with window graphics by Mr Anthony Burrill.

You know the song 'Layla,' by Eric Clapton? Well, the woman who's said to have inspired it, is his former wife Pattie Boyd. Pattie started out as a model and in 1963, she was asked to be in The Beatles first movie, 'A Hard Day's Night.' She only had one line but it was enough to catch George Harrison's eye. Ten days later, he proposed. Pattie said no, but she agreed to a date and her life was never the same. Cameras and fans were everywhere and in 1966, she and George got hitched. Pattie was also the one who introduced The Beatles to The Maharishi and inspired their trip to India to study with the Yogi. But like a lot of rock n roll stories, there were tales of drugs and infidelity. By the early 70's, Pattie's marriage fell apart. Enter Eric Clapton. Eric had fallen in love with Pattie, hence, the tune 'Layla' (his pet name for her). In the late 70's, they got married. Pattie apparently inspired other Clapton songs - like 'Wonderful Tonight' and 'Bell Bottom Blues' but eventually, they divorced too which is when Pattie turned to her love of photography These days, she's touring with an exhibition called 'Through the Eye of a Muse.' Plus, she wrote a book about her life. It's called 'Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Me.'

At the popular and busy outdoor Clover Market in Chestnut Hill Sunday, a photographer with “Poseybooth” took photos of anyone willing to pose and of at least one unwilling dog. Poseybooth is a modern version of the ubiquitous instant photo booths of yore. But instead of a getting a wet print, those posing received their photos in digital format via text or email. The freebie souvenir appeared to make many people very happy. Watch video here
Mingle Media TV was invited to cover the 2010 Los Angeles International Shorts Film Festival on Thursday July 22nd, our correspondent Hailey Bright was there to interview the celebrities on the red carpet.
Background: The Los Angeles International Shorts Film Festival is the largest short film festival in the world and officially recognized by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences. This year the LA Shorts Fest is being held at the Laemmle's Sunset 5 Theater in West Hollywood, and has had 33 films receive Academy Award nominations while 11 have won Oscars. As the largest short film festival in the world with more than 1,000 entries, 250 film screenings and 9 days of guest speakers, interactive and entertaining events, the festival has become the industry standard for showcasing and awarding undiscovered talent.

Ginza, as many of us know, is one of the premier/up-scale shopping districts of the world. The daily traffic of the main street is undoubtedly high.
Not sure how often it was done, but the main shopping street at the Ginza district was completely shut down for cars and only pedestrians were allowed. Also many coffee tables and chairs were setup along the middle dividers of the street for people to rest or eat.
I assumed that it does not happen often since many people (even locals) were taking pictures of this phenomenon.
Also there were many TV reports (I assume?) running around interviewing shoppers. This happened to be one of them.

We were lucky enough to see the Meskal Festival that is dedicated to the true cross. Ethiopians believe that St Helena dreampt that she should build a fire and the smoke would lead her to the true cross, which she did and returned with a piece to Ethiopia. We were very lucky to witness this wonderful and colourful festival and luckier still to manage to get into the midst of it with our cameras and photograph and share the spirit of the festivities with the locals, who seemed to enjoy photographing us on their mobiles as much as we did them.

My friend Andrew interviews with Hadi at Tellme back in 2000. Space was tight and the "conference room" available for their interview was to squeeze in between the ping-pong table and the Dell boxes. Andrew got the job, and is still at Tellme. I never did get to collect on my bonus for recruiting Andrew--a week of meals from our webmaster, but that is a story for another time . . .

I had lunch with blogger Biao (http://www.FreeBiao.com/) while I was in San Francisco for Macworld. While I expected to interview him about his life as a Singaporean working in the start-up world in Mountain View, CA, he ended up interviewing me instead. He asked lots of questions which I would have ask other bloggers, so I realized how useful it'd be to try answering them myself.
While the delicious Cha Kway Teow gave me short memory, here are some points I recalled from our first meetup:
1. Blogging as a social responsibility: One of the key notions we discovered was how it is really up to typical people like us to make the internet more useful. Content is still king and machines alone can't do squat without us.
2. Ever had that sinking feeling that your blog is a mish-mash of this and that? It's ok... there's no rule against that and it's all about being comfortable blogging. While I started out blogging about communication theories, I ended up blogging about tech and about my life. It's inevitable and it's perfectly fine for other parts of your life to seep onto your blog. Bloggers don't need to be as specific as Engadget, they can have a "me" blog and still be equally useful thanks to the search engines like Google.
3. Hard work pays off. I'm inspired by Biao's lucky break at a job fair in Stanford which landed him the tech-related job in Mountain View, CA (lots of big corporations there, including Google!) He's in a unique position to blog about his life and experience working there!
