« L'Alhambra ! l'Alhambra !

The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It was originally constructed as a small fortress in 889 and then largely ignored until its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid 11th century by the Berber king Badis ben Habus of the Kingdom of Granada who built its current palace and walls, and later converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada.

The Alhambra's Islamic palaces were built for the last Muslim emirs in Spain and its court of the Nasrid dynasty. After the Reconquista by the Reyes Católicos ("Catholic Monarchs") in 1492, some portions were used by Christian rulers. The Palace of Charles V, built by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor in 1527, was inserted in the Alhambra within the Nasrid fortifications. After being allowed to fall into disrepair for centuries, the Alhambra was rediscovered in the 19th century by European scholars and travelers, with restorations commencing. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions, exhibiting the country's most significant and well known Arab-Islamic architecture, together with 16th-century and later Christian building and garden interventions. The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the inspiration for many songs and stories.

Me: "What the...?"

Father: "I'm here to remove the demon that has possessed you."

Me: *Confused look* "But I didn't call you."

First try of hdr after 5 images

I uploaded a close up the other day of an island visitor feeding cabbage to one of these Aldabra Tortoises. In order to give a better feel for these lovely long lived creatures I thought I should upload an image that shows one in full. Although not native to this island these tortoises were a gift from the governor of the Seychelles when he visited in the 1850’s. The tortoise population has struggled a great deal but forty years ago the Tanzanian government posted a small military presence to the island to stop poaching. That has worked wonders and the population now thrives although it does have to put up with many visitors like ourselves. Unbelievably when we visited I had to intervene when an oriental lady sat on one to pose for her photograph. Needless to say she didn’t get that holiday snap.

Press L, bigger is much better.

I had a very nice (though immensely humid) hike yesterday, from the shores of Brother's water,up to the summit of Hart Crag.

Despite my initial reservations, the clouds and light were excellent for the majority of the 5hrs or so i spend pottering about.

Nearing the summit of Hart Crag the clouds kept rolling in and rolling out, while the sun would seize every oppourtunity to make a fleeting appearance.A heavenly moment to behold!!!!

I swift five miler where the threat of rain was ever present. A dramatic burst of sunlight suddenly illuminated an otherwise grey day.
