Jeff Smith, technical staff customer service agent for REDCOM, a contract company specializing in research and development communications, works communications in the Marine Corps Tactical Operations Center at the 2011 Joint Users Interoperability Communications Exercise June 6-24 at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.
We had a communications excercise this morning involving threats at various venues. Our mission was to establish communications support and interoperability between different agencies including FBI, Homeland Security, ATF, and local police, fire, and bomb units as well as link in the other incident locations. Basically, we give everyone the ability to talk to one another.
One component of the scenario was the requirement of mission critical equipment that needed to be on the scene as soon as possible. That's where me and Ivan got a ride from the US Park Police helicopter: Eagle 2. They picked us up in Gaithersburg and we were at our scene location within 10 minutes.
I LOVE MY JOB!
An earlier than normal walk with Mrs P Bonny this morning.
Mrs P then finished packing her bags and we left for the railway station. She is off to Devon to see her Mum for a few days.
I continued to set up a new secretary account with contact details etc. I also experimented with taking a photo with my little Nikon bridge camera as I discovered it can take RAW photos. I imported a file into the Photos app on the Mac and found that you can edit the RAW directly. Pretty neat interoperability. More experimentation to come I think!

Seattle better known as the Emerald City has proven that propietary technology can coexist with open source, here is an ordinary sample where a bridge to 520 peacefully coexists with the arboretum. I know coexistence is not the same as interoperability but you get the idea.
This shot is probably the one I like from this morning visit to the Arboretum with photogeek Ankur. We never been there before to shoot, didn't have much time and the sun never rised so I guess i'm looking forward to continued visits to achieve our goal of capturing the fall colors.
BTW - tried to come up with a natural looking HDR - what do you think?
