An Intermediate Egret in its breeding plumage. Looks quite beautiful - perfect white plumage, with a tinge of yellow near a black beak, and red eyes.
The IXV Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle is being prepared for launch at Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
IXV will be launched 320 km into space on top of a Vega rocket, climbing up to 420 km before beginning a long glide back through the atmosphere. In the process, IXV will gather data on reentry conditions to help guide the design of future spaceplanes.

Open lake! The geese will stay in my lake for a while and then they fly north!
Wellcome to my photoalbum my friends and thank you for your faves and comments.
Using trackage rights on the CSX Toledo Sub, the Indiana and Ohio's Lima North Local heads back towards Lima and splits the intermediate signals between XN and Kleman. These are the last intermediate CPL's on the Toledo sub and are located about midway between Leipsic and Ottawa, Ohio.

The Intermediate Egret is a medium-sized (56-72 cm), white egret with a yellow bill, yellow iris and black legs and feet. The bare facial skin at the gape terminates below the eye, whereas in the similar but larger Great Egret, it extends slightly behind the eye.
The Intermediate Egret prefers mainly inland habitats with emergent aquatic vegetation such as pools, river margins, lakes, swamps, rice fields and fish ponds. It is found less often in coastal habitats. It feeds mainly on fish, frogs, insects and crustaceans, which it catches by quietly standing and watching, or by slowly walking. Although it nests colonially, it may be found feeding either alone or in small groups.

British Railways Brush Traction Type 4 Co-Co class 47/4 diesel-electric locomotive number 47428 of Gateshead Traction Maintenance Depot passes Weeton signal box 2 signal with a five coach additional passenger train from Blackpool North. 14:16, Saturday 11th August 1984
47428 was built by Brush Traction (works number 430) at Loughborough in August 1963 for British Railways as number D1536, being renumbered 47428 in February 1974. It was moved to Doncaster works on 21st January 1989 for accident damage assessment but was withdrawn from Crewe Diesel Traction Maintenance Depot four days later. It was stored until sold for scrap to Vic Berry Limited, being moved by road to Leicester in April 1990 where it was cut up over the following four months
47428 had passed earlier working the daily 08:35 London Euston to Blackpool North (1P18)
Weeton signal box 2 signal (up main home) is carried on a tubular steel post with 3 signal (Westby up intermediate block distant signal) below it. The signal was renewed on a shorter post a couple of years before the signal box closed
Ref no 06205
Very difficult to tell the difference between intermediate and Great Egret. I'm going with Merlin on these ID's!
The Intermediate eXperimental Vehicle (IXV) flight model during integration at Thales Alenia Space, Torino, Italy, on 12 February 2014.
It will be launched by ESA in 2014 on Vega, Europe’s new small launcher, into a suborbital path. It will reenter the atmosphere as if from a low-orbit mission, testing new European reentry technologies during its hypersonic and supersonic flight phases.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Completed in April 2012, the new Irwin Intermediate School at Fort Bragg opened just in time for the 2012-2013 school year. Construction on the $14.9 million, 112,025-square-foot facility began in 2010 and was managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District. The new school replaces the original Irwin building built in 1962. The school was formally dedicated with an opening ceremony on Sept. 27, 2012. It was named in memory of Lt. Gen. Stafford Leroy Irwin, who served as the post commander from 1946 to 1948. Located off of Normandy Drive, near Butler and Murray elementary schools, the new Irwin School serves 725 students in grades two through five. Amenities include art, music, and general purpose classrooms, computer labs, a playground, gymnasium, and multipurpose rooms with a stage and kitchen. Within the past few years, the Savannah District has completed more than $100 million in family support projects at Fort Bragg, including schools and child development centers. Between 2013 and 2020, another $90 million is budgeted for continued school development on Fort Bragg. USACE photo by Tracy Robillard, Sept. 12, 2012.
While Taiyuan East shed handled passenger workings Taiyuan North shed dealt with the freight traffic in the area. The steam shed buildings were pretty utilitarian but the depot also carried out wash-outs & intermediate overhauls when main line engines had run approx. 300,000 km. In addition repairs and overhauls of industrial engines - mainly SYs - were done for the nearby steelworks and factories
We had the usual briefing before our shed visit and were told that 2700 staff were employed and 65 steam locos (50 2-10-2 QJ & 15 2-8-2 JS) and 54 electric locos were based there. We were told that the main flows were from Taiyuan to SuyoSien (?).
This view shows from left to right, QJ 2942 just visible, QJ 3142, JS 5137, QJ 3121, QJ 3141, QJ 1129 and SY0884. The latter was in ex-works condition.
Inside the shed was QJ 2632 having a wash-out and QJ 2031 in the works for an overhaul. In other parts of the yard were QJ 2074, QJ 2887, QJ 2081, SY 0786 plus an unidentified ex-works QJ built in 1975 in fresh black paint with no number. By the sand and watering facilities were QJ 1537 and QJ 3137 while in the coaling yard were QJs 850, 1725 & 3133 plus JS 5304 for a total of 20 steam engines.
This was a Friday and presumably the other 45 engines were out on trains. I didn't record how many electric locos were on shed......
