Major tramway project:

From July 7 to August 31, 2025, the tramway network will be completely closed to carry out the final major phase of its modernization before the arrival of the new tramway in 2026.

Platforms renovated and adapted for the new tramway

Since 2023, the platforms at the network's 36 tramway stations have been renovated to:

adapt the platforms to the longer trains of the new tramway,

secure access for all,

improve accessibility for people with disabilities,

improve passenger comfort.

7 kilometers of completely renewed ballasted track

Like a road, the tramway track must be regularly maintained to ensure safe operation. This complex work requires the use of specialized construction equipment.

This renewal is scheduled every 30 years on the Roubaix/Tourcoing branches and every 15 to 20 years on the common section, depending on the state of the sanitation system. In total, 4,000 linear meters of rails and 12,000 sleepers will be replaced on the line toward Roubaix.

Tramway power supply: a vast safety operation

Running a tram involves kilometers of electrical cables, hundreds of brackets, dozens of pylons, and more. All interconnected.

Ten pylons will be relocated to better secure the traffic lanes.

530 brackets will undergo preventive replacement work. A bracket is a support that holds the electrical cable above the tram tracks.

And also...

The complete interruption of service also provides an opportunity to carry out a series of additional operations, such as planting vegetation at four stations and adapting the signaling to the new tram at the termini.

Groot tramproject:

7 kilometer volledig vernieuwd ballastspoor

Nucleation of Metal Clusters on Carbon Nanotubes

Electromigration in metal interconnects limits the number of devices in a single microprocessor. This limitation has already led to the replacement of Al as interconnect material by Cu, which has a higher current carrying capacity of the order of 106 A/cm2. Nevertheless, as the dimensions of the interconnect lines continue to shrink, electromigration and stress-induced migration phenomena remain reliability concerns for inlaid copper interconnects. CNT’s, capable of carrying currents of the order of 109 A/cm2, appear as a good candidate to replace state-of-the-art inlaid copper interconnects in microprocessors. A key step for integration of CNT’s in actual devices is the formation of stable and low-resistance ohmic contacts. Palladium appears as the most promising contact metal; elimination of the Schottky barrier and ballistic transmission of electrons has been already reported [1]. However, there is no obvious reason why Pd should give a smaller barrier than, say, Pt. Why is its electrical behaviour different? Does palladium react chemically with the CNT?

Here we investigate the interaction between CNT’s and three different metals, namely platinum, palladium and gold, which are thermally evaporated onto CNT’s. High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) was used to monitor the nucleation and evolution of the metal coatings on the CNT’s, whereas chemical interaction was monitored by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS).

It was observed that during the onset of the evaporation, clusters are formed at the CNT surface (Figure 1). Electron tomography will be carried out to gain three-dimensional information on how the CNT is coated with clusters. The cluster size increases by forming a quasi-continuous coating onto the CNT surface when the amount of metal evaporated on the surface is increased. Functionalization of the CNT surface leads to a better dispersion of the clusters and reduces the cluster size by creating more active sites for clusters to nucleate.

Figure 2 shows a metal cluster on top of a CNT surface. The preserved structure of the graphene layers under the cluster suggests the absence of a mixed metal-carbon phase. Further information and confirmation can be obtained by XPS. If a chemical reaction is present at the interface, then the chemical environment of the atoms at the interface will show new features in the XPS spectra. The absence of new features near the metal core levels spectra (Figure 3) proves that no Pt-C, Pd-C or Au-C bonds are formed.

The increase in the FWHM of the core-levels and the shift in the binding energy (Figure 3) will be discussed in terms of intrinsic initial electronic structure and final states effect.

I've had quite a lot of fun recently adding routes and vehicles that I've see in real life to the Gainsborough map in OMSI.

The 107 was one route I wanted to add as although it pretty much mirrors the 3 (in game, I don't think the 3 is a thing in real life) it adds a bit more bus traffic to the map and allows me to bring in more vehicles plus it (supposedly) goes to Lincoln rather than turning back at Lea Green.

And what better buses to use on the 107 than the E400 MMCs that I see on it in real life? Well, actually I've set up the AI lists so that half the allocation on the 107 is MMCs, and the rest is randomised between Tridents, B7TLs and more MMCs that can also crop up on other routes.

10900 is what's showed up this time and is here at the very top of the map by the Laughton Lane terminus. The AI can't pull the manoeuvre needed to turn back around so I've got the AI bus to drive off the end of the map and re-enter again once it is time to commence the next journey.

Luckily I didn't have to do this livery as someone had already put it on Fellowsfilm, and all I had to do was download it!

In 2009, Stagecoach invested in 5 brand new Enviro400 bodied Scania's for interconnect service100 which linked Gainsborough with Scunthorpe and Lincoln. At the time, Stagecoach had also introduced a new version of beachball livery for use on the interconnect network, which can be seen on 15508, FX09 CZY arriving in Lincoln on service100.

Took the modified Toyota Prius out on a roadtrip. Bonham, TX to Houston, TX and back.

Configuration: Rebuilt 140,000+ mile HV Battery pack, with two replacement modules from another pack with similar miles. Piggybacked onto the HV Battery is a capacitor bank, and a lithium battery bank. Also attached, is a lithium battery bank, piggybacked onto the aux 12volt battery, of which is trickled charged with a solar panel in the back window. The gasoline was 87 octane regular grade with 10% methanol.

In the photos, you'll see what the overall trip MPG average ended up being. Factors that I believe hurt the results were the start/stop highway parking lots in Dallas and Houston, both there and back, along with the fact, I ran out of gasoline, on one leg of the trip, and had to have BetterWorld Auto Club, deliver 3 gallons to get me on the road. I drove for several miles on battery, to get to a rest area, and it took quite awhile to get the battery recharged once on the road again. NOTE: Car is empty when it shows 1/4 tank, learned that the hard way.

I averaged 65mph, on the highway, crawling speeds in the 4 lane parking lots, and you'll see from the temperature display, I had the A/C running as well. Keep in mind this is a 2001 Prius, that doesn't have an electric a/c compressor.

Anyhow, Does the trip MPG Average seem OK?

Seeing as a fresh new InterConnect livery has appeared - and I've gone for several uploads now without featuring one of these Gainsborough 67 plates - here's a classic InterConnect 100 photo of MMC 10899 getting away from Lincoln, seen on Saxilby Road at the Grandstand, on 1.8.23

As yet I haven't seen any photos of the repainted InterConnects on Flickr, so you might well be wondering "what new livery?", but yesterday on Bustimes I spotted that a few of Skeg's Scania E400s have been treated to a fresh coat of two-tone purple. It's essentially the same as the TwoFifty livery except purple; following the standard SC Local/Specialist/Distance layout but having its own dedicated colour.

It'll probably take me a while to see said new livery, unless I decide to have an impromptu visit to Skeg, but when I do I'll be sure to engage in my usual waffle about what may (or may not) get painted and what Stagecoach's thinking behind it could be. Whether the 100 will be a recipient of the repaints we can only wait and see, thanks to Stagecoach's scattergun approach to just about everything.
