is simply to reproduce in other minds the impression which a scene has made upon him. a work of art does not appeal to the intellect. it does not appeal to the moral sense. its aim is to instruct, not to edify, but to awaken an emotion. [george innes quote]

"To expect the unexpected shows a thoroughly modern intellect." Oscar Wilde.
Although I still prefer the photography of ancient and historical places, I am increasingly passionate about photographing modern cities. Singapore is undoubtedly one of the cities that most invite you to take the camera and capture the incredible works that the human being has done there in recent years. There are numerous places where you can get interesting compositions of this city-state and the Marina Barrage is one of them.
It is a dam located beyond Gardens by the Bay, in which a complex has been built to allow water storage and flood control, in addition to being a place of recreation. From its walkway with circular shape and two entrances that cross but do not get together, we have an excellent view of Singapore skyline. So, in addition to the skyscrapers, we can add include in our photograph the walkway and the oval-shaped fountain located in the middle.
Because we were a little late, my girlfriend and I had to start running to arrive in time to capture the best moment of the blue hour. But being a place where people usually go to do running, this time our crazy race maybe it was a little more unnoticed.

Nature isn’t kind. Nature is indifferent. It’s indifferent to joy, sadness, pain, laughter, love, and passion. Nature isn’t fair. This is the wild and untamed nature of nature. The creatures that spend their entire lives as one of nature’s creations are in large part, the similar. One trait sets humankind apart. It’s not intellect since this debatable characteristic may well lead us down a path of complete and utter destruction. No, I believe that our one distinct and redeeming value is our ability to be kind. Although other animals can behave kindly on occasion, humankind has the ability to “consciously” make the effort to be kind. It’s a large bite to chew. Consciously making the effort to put aside our hatred and dislikes; putting down our guns and weapons; setting aside our misled assumptions about cultures and religions foreign to us. It means making conscious decisions to include others dissimilar to us and making them feel at home rather than at odds. We have the capacity to do so. Whether this is our nature or, as some might argue, a God given trait, doesn’t really matter. What really matters is our capacity and willingness to do so. There are those who govern and manipulate the masses. They are, in large part, a loss. They seek money and power with a hunger that is insatiable. But what about you and I? Can we muster the strength to exercise the one truly human trait that sets us apart and distinguishes us from the rest of nature? I’m not certain we have evolved far enough to master that task. I hope I am proven wrong. #Coyote #nature #kindness
Intellectual Property is the overall term that refers to all forms of idea protection: patents, design rights, copyright and trade marks. Intellectual Property law can assign certain rights to the creator of: music, literature, artistic works, discoveries, inventions, designs and logos. In its literal sense, it is the property of your mind, or intellect, and, as such, can be claimed as your own and used in a similar way to commercial property: Intellectual Property can be bought, sold, licensed and even mortgaged.

Title: Hate
Prior to meeting this brick sculpture, the visitors will have already seen a row of other pieces, challenging both the senses and the intellect.
Many of these challenges are delivered with humour and romance. With Brinch and Olsson's HATE, the viewer is challenged more directly, and at the same time, the old bricklayer-traditions combined with the special atmosphere of the forest create a space for thought and reflection. When you think about what they hate, it is impossible to not also think about what you love. The sculpture lays the foundation for a debate of values, and despite its heavy visuals, it gives the viewer a positive message.
HATE was created in the summer of 2013 in collaboration with Jacob Olsson.
On the road, west of Val Marie last week, heading for Alberta, I saw this fog bow and had to stop. This makes three that I've seen, two of them within the past year! Presumably there have been more that I didn't notice. Odd how once you become aware of a phenomenon, you realize it is more common than expected!
At first I was disappointed that it didn't arch over the road more symmetrically, but as I continue to look at the image, I think it works. I instinctively placed the vanishing point at the intersection of "thirds". Meanwhile, the fog bow creates interesting shapes of the remaining space.
When I'm composing an image, I never - or almost never - think too much about what I'm doing. Rather, I feel the rightness of it. If I feel somehow uncomfortable with the composition, I make an adjustment. Often the result will fall in line with classical principles of visual design (golden mean, thirds, etc.), but that is almost never a cerebral process, but rather, gut response. I don't know if this can be taught - but I think it can be learned. I mention this because, for me, it is at the heart of all creativity: the process - trying to resolve an inner feeling by some mode of expression - keeps me engaged and alive as a creative being.
What goes on in the mind of a great guitarist or horn player while improvising blues or jazz? I play guitar, but my limitations are obvious to me each time I pick up my Telecaster and find myself in a box that I can't seem to exit. Not so with a camera, where I feel a sense of limitless freedom. I know practice is a huge part of it, but that isn't the whole story. I won't discount talent, but I don't think that's the whole story, either. Clearly, in this matter, I have more questions than answers. I suspect that the answer to the question about the musician is: "Very little." The creative wellspring comes from some place more elusive than the intellect. He (or she) is playing from the gut. Feeling it. Like any great painter, dancer, writer, or photographer.

I am in the process of making them all work together, but still have issues with extremes.
I am plagued with anxiety. As much as I want some thoughts to stop (and doctors want to medicate) I would only suffocate my creativity by taming my spitfire brain.
This could have been inherited through addictive personalities raising me or watching others stifling their own thoughts of passion (I tend to go against the grain).
And while I'm still in the process of nurturing this brainchild I still fight with the need to organize, be responsible, and filter what others know about me.
“Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,

The element of Air is vital to human survival, without it we would all perish, its aspects are Thinness, Motion and Darkness and its quality is Active. Air is the manifestation of movement, freshness, communication and of the intelligence. Sound is another manifestation of this element. As an element, it is invisible, but its reality can be felt in the air that we breathe in every day.
To connect with the power of this element, find a place with clean air and breathe deeply, touch a feather or inhale the fragrance of a heavily scented flower. Let yourself experience the energy of this element, and reflect that we also possess Air energy within ourselves.
In magical terms, Air is the power of the mind, the force of intellect, inspiration, imagination. It is ideas, knowledge, dreams and wishes. Air is the element of new life and new possibilities and is essential to spells and rituals of travel, instruction, finding lost items, some types of divination, and freedom. Air aids us in visualization, a vital technique in magic.
Air is a masculine element and governs the magick of the four winds. It is the vital spirit passing through all things, giving life to all things, moving and filling all things. Thus Hebrew doctors ascribe it not as an element but as a medium or glue that binds all things together.
I make my messengers like the winds;
the breeze whispers Eternal words,
Servants are like the fire and flame.
I made the earth,
and stabilized its shifting foundation.
I wrapped terra firma in a gown of waters—
ancient mountains under layers of sky.
I am the sopranos soft song arising from waters flowing down an Appalachian mountainside.
I am the respite for a weary traveler resting n rich, green fields beside streams of refreshing water, soothing the languishing soul’s fears.
I am the unseen wind that perplexed the intellect of the Pharisee Nicodemus, yet provides clarity to my children. I am the wind that carries the voice of Lady Wisdom, inviting the hungry wander: “Come in. Come, eat my bread, and drink my spiced wine.”
I am the eternal baritone timbre of the sea, beckoning the sefaring pilgrim to the harbor beyond the horizon. Set your azimuth for the far-off shores. I will guide you home.

“The kingdom of music is not the kingdom of this world; it will accept those whom breeding and intellect and culture have alike rejected. The commonplace person begins to play, and shoots into the empyrean without effort, whilst we look up, marvelling how he has escaped us, and thinking how we could worship him and love him, would he but translate his visions into human words, and his experiences into human actions. Perhaps he cannot; certainly he does not, or does so very seldom.” - E.M. Forster

While Haudenosaunee men were away fighting alongside the British during the War of 1812, the women maintained the families, communities and culture. These four prints were taken from large woodcuts that were made into sculptural platforms on which visitors could lie back and “rest with warriors.” The women in the prints are surrounded by culturally significant symbols. As Niro writes: “The women had to remain level-headed. . . Intellect, emotion, spirit and strength were four characteristics needed in these times of challenge.”
Leisure and Productivity - A Day in a Life
It's time for a change: workplaces need to weave leisure into the fabric of the workday.
Incorporating leisure isn't a luxury; it's a strategy to rejuvenate our minds and spark creativity.
Say goodbye to stress and hello to peak performance through leisure activities at work.
Leisure shouldn't wait for the day's end; it's a vital piece of the productivity puzzle.
When work includes leisure, satisfaction soars and engagement deepens.
We are more than our output; we deserve a work-life balance celebrating our humanity.
Imagine a workplace where leisure and labour dance in harmony, enhancing our intellect."
Shift the focus: It's not just about being productive but about feeling fulfilled.
An enriched workday awaits when we blend leisure seamlessly into our tasks.
Let's champion a workplace revolution where leisure and work unite for a richer life experience.

"No one would have believed in the middle of the 20th Century that human affairs were being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than Man's. Yet, across the gulf of space on the planet Mars, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic regarded our Earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely joined their plans against us. Mars is more than 140 million miles from the sun, and for centuries has been in the last status of exhaustion. At night, temperatures drop far below zero even at its equator. Inhabitants of this dying planet looked across space with instruments and intelligences that which we have scarcely dreamed, searching for another world to which they could migrate."

Myth of the Solar Eclipse, 'Defeat of God' to Death of the King
From the past, there have been two things that were felt by traditional civilization people when they looked up at the sky; have a very deep respect and fear.
These feelings are deepening, especially when there are amazing celestial phenomena such as a total solar eclipse. They connect the event with a curse, a sign, a potential disaster, to the end of the world.
Imagine an ancient civilization that did not understand natural science and science competently, faced with events such as a solar eclipse, when suddenly the sun stopped looking, covered with the Moon, and then the Earth darkened.
Ancient Chinese society, for example, responds to eclipses with crowds gathered, boisterous activities beating drums, shouting, and making noise. The goal, to drive away the giant dragon which was considered by the people of that period was devouring the Sun.
In China, people believe that a sky dragon flooded the river with blood and swallowed it. Until the 19th century, Chinese people used to ring firecrackers to frighten the dragon
"In ancient times, every culture had regarded the Sun as a divine symbol or divine representation. This assumption arose because at that time something unreachable like heaven was a representation of God," explained Bradley Schaefer, professor of astronomy at Louisiana State University, as quoted from CNN, Thursday (08/10/2017).
"So, when a phenomenon such as a solar eclipse occurs, people at that time would regard it as 'the death of God', and that is not a good sign," he added.
Such ancient superstition can be traced to 2,300 - 1,800 BC, as stated in the artifacts of Mesopotamian civilization. In the ancient documents it was explained that a solar eclipse could be a sign of death for the ruling king.
In its time, the myth was believed not only by Mesopotamian people, but also by all civilizations in the Mediterranean. And, for a society dominated by the royal system, superstition is as if a sign of perishing.
To avoid fate as predicted, usually, the kings at that time pretended to abandon their power, pulling away from the boisterous nobility to the countryside to disguise themselves as 'farmers'. The action was carried out to avoid the pursuit of death as predicted.
In order to fill the vacancy of the king's role and seat, it was forced by a criminal to pretend to occupy the throne. The hope, he was able to become a false target for the 'death' who came after the king when the solar eclipse arrived.
After the solar eclipse passed, 'the farmer' then returned to being the number one kingdom. And the criminal is then slaughtered on the orders of 'the farmer', in order to fulfill the forecast.
And the tradition is done repeatedly, adjusted for the appearance of a solar eclipse. Uniquely, in the document dated 1,850 BC, the real king really died during the eclipse, and the criminal who succeeded him rose to power.
Meanwhile, in the land of Java the myth circulated that the Giant Betara Kala or Rahu swallowed the sun because of its revenge on the Surya (sun), causing an eclipse.
The fact that the size of the efforts of the ancient civilizations to 'respond' to the emergence of solar eclipses shows their extreme fear of the phenomenon.
But over time, the fear slowly faded. Humans are no longer avoiding, but very much hope for the appearance of a solar eclipse.
As happened in Indonesia in 2016. Instead of closing the door tightly and hiding inside the house, the Nusantara community crowded out to watch the solar eclipse, to admire the natural wonders of the Creator's work.
Then in what period did the fear of rare phenomena fade away?
"The fear is lost as human intellect grows," Bradley Schaefer said.
In the 5th century BC, the ancient Greek philosopher Anaxagoras made a reflection to understand deeply the phenomenon of solar eclipses.
The contemplation is not based on theological belief perspective, nor does it regard the Sun as the image of God. Anaxagoras reflects on the philosophy of solar eclipses by using the perspectives of traditional physics and natural sciences.
Then, he managed to reach a conclusion that until now has become a scientific fundamental to understand eclipses, that phenomenon was caused when the Moon was between the Sun and Earth, blocking the sun's light from going to Blue Planet .
The idea was later disseminated by Anaxagoras throughout Greece. However, like other philosophers at that time, the thought - the real scientific one - was countered by religious institutions, which were then in power.
As a result, the idea of Anaxagoras was countered by the citizens of Athens, and the philosopher became persona non grata. He was exiled from the blood spill for the rest of his life.
In fact, if the idea of Anaxagoras was accepted by Greek society as a scientific truth and shifted the myths of belief that existed, the Athenians did not need to defeat in the Peloponnesian War in 413 BC.
During the Peloponnesian War, the Athenian army led by Nicias was very close to seizing Syracuse in Sicily before a solar eclipse occurred. Afraid of prophecies, superstitions, and negative myths of eclipses, Greek forces were forced to withdraw and cancel attacks.
Seeing this, the Syracuse army exploited the momentum by storming the Greek army which was moving backwards. The result was very ironic, Athens lost a landslide, 200 ships were destroyed and 29,000 soldiers were killed or captured.
That defeat can be avoided if Athena continues to attack Syracuse. However, the fear of destruction as prophesied by the solar eclipse, in fact, actually caused defeat for Greece.
However, 30 years later post-defeat in 413 BC, superstitions about solar eclipses slowly faded and were no longer believed by the Athenians. At the time of attacking Syracuse for the second time, a solar eclipse reappeared, but the Greek army never retreated.
The deeper the understanding of the Greeks of the solar eclipse, not only made their mystical superstitions fade, but also enriched their knowledge to predict the arrival of these rare phenomena.
And the experience and knowledge of the Greeks will eclipse the sun, spread widely throughout civilization in Eurasia. With the exception of China which has philosophical principles and solar eclipse prediction methods that are different from European culture.
Although the understanding of the phenomenon is getting deeper, however, myths and fears of a solar eclipse persist, until the 1900s.
In the United States, in the 1920s when a solar eclipse appeared, a number of photos showed some residents who seemed reluctant, unwilling, and anxious to look up at the sky when a solar eclipse occurred. Some use glasses or other visual aids.
"But everything changed in the 1970s, when a solar eclipse was seen on the East Coast. Since then, the phenomenon has been celebrated and targeted by eclipse hunters," Schaefer explained.
