In October 1983, the USF&G Insurance company held their annual conference at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV. They hired Jack Showalter of the Allegheny Central tourist railroad in nearby Covington, VA to provide a short train excursion for their patrons.
I was a member of the C.P. Huntington Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. CPH had recently acquired a streamlined ex-SAL dining car from Amtrak, and this car was leased for the excursion. I participated in the crew that accompanied the car from Huntington WV to Clifton Forge, VA and back.
