California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced the results of the national Multistate Insurance Diversity Survey (MIDS), which tracks supplier and governing board diversity in the insurance industry. Insurance commissioners from five states—California, the District of Columbia, New York, Oregon, and Washington – joined together in a multistate effort to collect information from nearly 800 of the nation's top insurance companies that collectively, account for nearly 70 percent ($1.27 trillion) of the nation’s $1.84 trillion insurance market.

On June 14, 1928, the Title Insurance and Trust Company opened the doors of its new headquarters at 433 S. Spring to the public, welcoming more than 10,000 visitors over the course of the day. The Title Insurance Building is a ten-story building designed by John and Donald Parkinson in the Zig-Zag Moderne style. The marble lobby includes a mural by Hugo Ballin. The skeleton of the building used 3500 tons of steel, and an L.A. Times story from April of 1927 made sure to note that it would all be fabricated in Los Angeles. The building's design did include a rather scientific study of how to maximize use of natural light while minimizing heat and the need for air conditioning. Dr. Ford Carpenter, consulting meteorologist for the Chamber of Commerce, built a scale model of the design and placed it on the site, photographing it at different times of the day. Miniature cardboard silhouettes were used to determine how shadows from neighboring buildings would impact the site. Different glass types were also tested to determine what would allow in the most light while keeping out heat. The Title Insurance Building was designated a Historic Cultural Landmark in 2003.

1911 postmarked postcard view of North Meridian Street in Winchester, Indiana. The photographer was standing north of Washington Street and facing northwest toward the alley.
The 1907 and 1914 Sanbornâ„¢ fire insurance map sets for Winchester shows both of these commercial buildings south of the alley between West North and West Washington streets. The nearby house (119 North Meridian Street) was on the north side of the alley, and the house at the right edge of this postcard scene was the second house south of North Street (129 North Meridian Street). This latter house may still be standing, but the other structures are gone.
The 1907 map set shows an express office in the wood frame building (115 North Meridian Street) at the left edge of this scene, but the 1914 map set shows the secondhand store. Both map sets show a printing business in the brick building (117 North Meridian Street) next to the alley and a photographer’s studio on the second floor. In this scene, the Secondhand Store sign advertised HIGHEST PRICES PAID FOR FUR and included the name D. KEENER.
Next door, the signs painted on the windows advertised HERALD OFFICE and THE WINCHESTER HERALD newspaper. The newspaper was established in 1875 and in 1891 moved to an unspecified building north of Dennis Kelley’s building¹ (presumably Kelley’s Block on the northwest corner of Meridian and Washington streets) in 1891. The 1899 Sanborn™ map set shows a printing business in a wood frame building a short distance north of the Kelley Block (117 North Meridian Street). The Winchester newspaper index² included a 1902 report that the old Herald building on North Meridian would be replaced. A 1903 report said the Herald building had been replaced. The 1907 and 1914 map sets appeared to confirm the change. The showed a printing business in a brick building that had replaced the older wood frame structure at 117 North Meridian Street.

This is my spare 90K miles insurance policy engine I bought for £125 from a bloke in Barry. He'd planned on building it for an E34 then found a cheap 4.4 M62 V8 so surprisingly enough went that route instead.
It's an M52B25 Single VANOS so the block is a proper match for my M50 head (but Ali instead of Iron). In the unfortunate event my home brew block goes south this will be waiting in the wings.
I bought the engine home whole in the boot of my 330 Touring which was a bit of a squeeze and then stripped it down on the weekend. Some water had got into one of the bores so it may not be ideal but the head is great so worst case I'll have a spare good head.
The engine was cheap because most of the plastic bits such as the manifold and valve cover were a little melted where the previous previous owner had tried to drain the car's fuel tank by pulling out one of the injectors and then running the engine. Unsurprisingly there was a small fire. I don't need any of the plastic parts so they all went straight in the skip.
