I've still got a second sheet of insulation foam so I'm trying out a LV-426 display for my Neca aliens figures. I marked out the footprint of those figure stands and it fits seven (with room for two more if you like it crowded, the Hadley's Hope sign can be removed if needed). I've got Ripley, Newt, Hudson, Frost, Burke, Vasquez and Bishop plus three Xenomorphs so I can't fit everything on at once but I like to mix and match my displays over time to keep 'em fresh and interesting anyway.

This one came together much quicker than the Eternia display (no tiers and the rocks were mostly offcuts I saved from last time). I put smaller foam shards at the rear to suggest a forced perspective but with it loaded with figures you mightn't see much of it anyway. Everything is glued so the next thing is to work out a colour scheme. Acheron usually looks quite dark with blackish landscapes but since the Xenomorphs are pretty dark I'll try some dark blue with lighter blue highlights on the rocks.

Cost-wise it's a lot of fun for mot much money. The foam boards were about $10 each (100 x 60 x 4cm), cheap and nasty hot wire cutter was $25, hot glue gun $10 and some acrylic paint (about $2-4 a tube).

He likes to sit in an old blanket that is piled onto one of the big wooden rockers on the front porch, when the late afternoon sun hits that end of the porch.

It's a great place to wait for the dinner bell to ring!

There was a butterfly "trapped" in the shed - it could easily have gone out the gap in the doorway but, but of course, it fluttered by the window for ages instead. Eventually managed to usher it out the door, but unfortunately it was already way too late for its buddy :(

Installation of multi-layered thermal insulation on the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice). There are around 500 such ‘blankets’ installed, ranging from the single aluminised polyester foil to the external multi-layered insulation, comprising 25 layers of polyimide. The total mass of the thermal insulation alone is 100 kg, several times greater than other ESA spacecraft to account for the extreme environment Juice will experience.

Juice will make detailed observations of Jupiter and its three large ocean-bearing moons – Ganymede, Callisto and Europa – with a suite of remote sensing, geophysical and in situ instruments. The mission will investigate the emergence of habitable worlds around gas giants and the Jupiter system as an archetype for the numerous giant exoplanets now known to orbit other stars.

We could not get the car to start, but we did manage to get the hood insulation installed. Small victories.

This door connects the basement hall to the garage. To keep the cold garage air from invading the house and the warm house air from escaping, I sprayed insulating foam in the gap between the door frame and the stud in the wall. The foam expanded dramatically. I trimmed the excess with a knife.
