even in the cold weather, Vinny wants to be outside.
His coat is incredibly thick.
He likes to sit in an old blanket that is piled onto one of the big wooden rockers on the front porch, when the late afternoon sun hits that end of the porch.
It's a great place to wait for the dinner bell to ring!
Got some expired film from the car boot sale, in Edinburgh, a few weeks ago, tried out the Kodak Ultra 400 ISO today.

Was going to go for a walk to take photos, but ended up shooting two rolls just in the garden. There was a butterfly "trapped" in the shed - it could easily have gone out the gap in the doorway but, but of course, it fluttered by the window for ages instead. Eventually managed to usher it out the door, but unfortunately it was already way too late for its buddy :(
One of my favourite Miscellany images to date (and I've done over 70 of them). Winter birds have always fascinated me so I explored how they manage to stay warm in boreal winters in my latest blog post. You can check it out here: wp.me/p10non-9I

Installation of multi-layered thermal insulation on the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (Juice). There are around 500 such ‘blankets’ installed, ranging from the single aluminised polyester foil to the external multi-layered insulation, comprising 25 layers of polyimide. The total mass of the thermal insulation alone is 100 kg, several times greater than other ESA spacecraft to account for the extreme environment Juice will experience.
Juice will make detailed observations of Jupiter and its three large ocean-bearing moons – Ganymede, Callisto and Europa – with a suite of remote sensing, geophysical and in situ instruments. The mission will investigate the emergence of habitable worlds around gas giants and the Jupiter system as an archetype for the numerous giant exoplanets now known to orbit other stars.

The Volkswgen Beetle was originally introduced in 1946, as the 1100 Standard, and joined by an 1100 DeLuxe or Export powered by the same 1137cc engine in 1949
In 1954 the 1200 was introduced as a replacement in Standard and Deluxe trims, with a bigger 1192cc of 30bhp with vacuum ignition control and better cylinder head cooling. Cable operated brakes to April 1963 and non with syncromesh. Produced in Saloon form until 64, but only listed in the UK until 1962 .
The model was upgraded in 1956 with twin exhausts and tubless tyres. 1958 saw larger windscreens, bigger rear windows and a front anti-roll bar from 1960, In 1961 the engine was improved now with 34bhp, an automatic choke, a bigger brake master cylinder, redesigned steering and syncromesh on bottom gear.
The Cabriolet was presented to Volkswagen in 1948 by Wilhelm Karmann as a four seat convertible, Going into production in 1949 by Karmann in Osnabrück with the approval of Volkswagen and sold through the Volkswagen dealerships, originally with the then current 1137cc engine, subsequent Cabriolets were mechanically uprated in line with the Saloon. The convertible was more than a Beetle with a folding top. To compensate for the strength lost in removing the roof, the sills were reinforced with welded U-channel rails, a transverse beam was fitted below the front edge of the rear seat cushion, and the side cowl-panels below the instrument panel were double-wall. In addition, the lower corners of the door apertures had welded-in curved gussets, and the doors had secondary alignment wedges at the B-pillar. The top was cabriolet-style with a full inner headliner hiding the folding mechanism and crossbars. In between the two top layers was 1 in (25 mm) of insulation. The rear window was tempered safety glass, and after 1968, heated
The Beetle would continue in production in Germany as a 1300 Beetle 1965-70, 1500 Beetle 1966-70, a revised 1200 Beetle 1967-70
Many thanks for a fantabulous

Hooray, after a 6 week absence, though low in the sky, we have been getting the sun lately and spring is on the way! Don't tell that to this Boreal Chickadee though, as it was minus 33 C this morning. Normally, I see the Black-capped ones at the feeder, and this is the first Boreal, so I am thrilled. The two species look similar but the Boreal has a brown head and brown feathers on its side, key features that show up well in the image. This one had his feathers erected to provide extra insulation from the bitter cold and cover his legs, giving him a somewhat rounded appearance. Called "piloerection", this is one of the many coping strategies that northern birds employ to survive the harsh winter.

As far as the eye could see, there was debris from homes scattered. Clothes, books, lumber, sheet rock and insulation were caught up in the tornado and strewn across fields and in the woods and along the road.
