Amidst the vast, icy expanse, a formidable sight unfolds as the mama polar bear rises on her hind legs, a towering sentinel of the frozen realm. In this moment, the wild takes on an almost mythical resonance, echoing the primal instincts etched in the tapestry of nature. The towering stature of the bear signals a dual purpose: a testament to her strength and a strategic vantage point to survey the Arctic landscape for potential threats or prey. This act, both majestic and utilitarian, mirrors the complex dance of maternal instincts woven across species. In the human and animal kingdoms alike, mothers stand as guardians, their primal instincts attuned to protect and nurture. The upright stance of the polar bear resonates with the shared essence of motherhood, where strength and vigilance converge, transcending the boundaries of ice and human experience.

Petite macro du dimanche, pour changer un peu...

It's amazing these hummers who can't stay still for over 30 seconds will sit on the nests 30 to 60 minutes at a time --

and posting as my favorite image of the 2019 year --- an update if you missed the postings -- both little ones didn't make it out the first week, although the nest is still there and hopefully ready to be updated this spring.......

Can consider this as a "lucky" #action shot of my THUNDER :)

He is so young and agile...he always "meows" at us so he can play outside 😺

Even with a broken antler and skull this buck was still chasing the ladies

Not normally how I spend my evenings but this was great fun and a challenge. We were in pitch black other than a small torch light being used to highlight the flower that had been sprayed to attract the bats. It was a job to sense the presence of the bat because they were in and out so fast if you hit your shutter when you caught a glimpse you would be too late. Hearing and instinct were much more important than your eyes. I didn't actually know what I had captured until I could lighten the images in Lightroom.

Quite a young cub, probably not much more than 3 months old, but already has signs of being a hunter!

The instinct of the observer

There was a moment when I was squatting between the rocks. I hear on my right a group of Lesser Yellowlegs in flight. I point the objective tele at the target, a different bird attracts my eye.

The little group landed not far from me, fierce, on the alert. I knew this intruder, a rare bird nesting in the Arctic.

It is 12:30 pm, the light is strong and burns the whites ... We must forget the photo! But patience is my ally. I observe the bird without moving, it is less nervous.

13:20 h. A guy is fast approaching behind me, he sees birds, birds get excited, I glare at him, he dashes away.

14:10 h. The sun is still high in the sky but the birds start to get upset with the rising tide. Despite the still strong light, I photograph because I feel that the presence of the bird ends ...

3 minutes and it was over, a beautiful flight of sandpipers!

The light still a little too strong but ...

My instinct was to move on to another location, but I told myself to relax and just enjoy. Moments later this short burst of light came along and was a nice reward.

"Out & About" today enjoying some beautiful spring weather finally, and disturbed this family basking in the sunlight!

One or two stern honks sent the goslings into the safety of the water, followed by glares from the parents! The adult on the right honked something I'm sure wasn't very nice! :(

This afternoon we combed Daisy, our Border Terrier. There are blue tits building a nest in our bird box at the moment and so we put her hair in a bush nearby. I was thrilled to get some shots of the blue tits taking some of the hair to use in the nest. Those baby birds are going to be very cosy!
