Instead of leaving the room, like most of the adult cats do when Muse tries to tackle them, Jimmy decided to teach Muse a thing or two.

instead of doing laundry Dena and I had fun ~ just goofing around like best friends do...

Ok, just hanging around at the weekend wasn't really an option. Instead we visited the Harz mountains 😃

The Ilse valley (German: Ilsetal) is the ravine of the Ilse stream in the northern boundary of the Harz mountain range in Germany. Part of the Harz National Park, it runs from the town of Ilsenburg at the foot of the mountain range up to the source region near the summit of the Brocken massif, the highest mountain of the range. The scenic valley is a popular hiking area (Wikipedia)

Instead of overwhelming the historic elements of the City of London that escaped the blitz, the City's extensive redevelopment has been designed to enhance them, through careful Town Planning and sympathetic architectural design and feature. Here, the glass exterior of One New Change (2010), designed by Jean Novel, provides vistas of St Paul's cathedral and opportunities for a few quirky/clichéd/amusing shots

Up again...and I am a sleepy head! Still busy with family and will be away from the internet much of today...but hope to catch up with everyone soon! haha...I will NOT be shopping on this "Black Friday"!!!

Cat Exercise Leo was going to start weight training, liked the bench and decided to nap there instead, shot in North Carolina.

A bit of a Mary Poppins type shot here but instead of the rooftops of London it is the rooftops of St Ives. I have shot this view from the passenger seat through the open passenger car door window many times. It is a well known beautiful view whenever you are taking the outbound road from St Ives towards Carbis Bay. On this particular day I was stretching my neck as usual to 'grab ' a shot when Jonathan spotted a gap on the road and pulled in and parked for just a couple of minutes. I was enchanted by the little garden foreground left, that being below the view from the car window I had never spotted before and was enchanted by both that and the wonderful view from that vantage point…..

St Ives is a town in Cornwall, England, known for its surf beaches, like Porthmeor, and its art scene. The seafront Tate St Ives gallery has rotating modern art exhibitions, focusing on British artists. Nearby, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, in the modernist artist’s former studio, displays her bronzes and other works. Boat trips go to Seal Island, just west of town, to see the seal colony….

The large Tower belongs to St Ia's Church, St Ives, is a parish church in the Church of England in St Ives, Cornwall, UK. It is dedicated to Ia of Cornwall, a 5th- or 6th-century Irish saint, and is a Grade I listed building..

Instead I brought out the bubblies out of the roses.

Instead of two weeks in Iceland I spent two nights in Bremerhaven.

It wasn't the same but I treated myself to a fab hotel with a spectacular view (and they also had a great way to make sure you observed the Covid19-related rules). :o)

“Instead of focusing on how much you can accomplish, focus on how much you can absolutely love what you’re doing.”

“Instead of just a-wishin’….” No, it’s not spring yet, but I bet there are a lot of people out there a-wishin’ that it was! Get your reels untangled and your tackle box ready, friends! February is going to fly by! Let Bing tell you all about it. youtu.be/nxuOavb_Vy8?si=FtbEUd2TV277itIS

Instead of complaining all day and night about restrictions (especially in Germany) we should hold on and follow the rules that are most important to fight the pandemic. Let’s find the best opportunities for meaningful work in these exceptional times. Going through the archives and editing overlooked goodies seems to be a good idea.

This is a new panorama from a series of photos I made in summer 2015 at Capanna Regina Margherita at the summit of Signalkuppe. I merged 5 photos which I had not edited before as I took a lot at this wonderful evening. They were taken at late sunset with the sinking sun right between Dent d' Herens and Matterhorn. We can look from Liskamm left with Montblanc behind over Breithorn, Dent d' Herens, Matterhorn, Dent Blanche, Obergabenhorn, Wellenkuppe and Zinalrothorn up to Dufourspitze and Zumsteinspitze which are quite near here at the right side.

I was working with the Leica M and the Zeiss Distagon 1.4/35 ZM. After development in Lightroom the panorama was merged in Photoshop.

Bird watching in a friends yard...hoping to photograph a hummingbird. It zipped by without posing so I captured this Chickadee instead.

GENERATION

In honor of Florence, my granddaughter, who spontaneously suggested the title of this image.

__________

On these shores bordered by infinity, a father introduces his young son to the art of shallow-water fishing. At first glance, one might think this is a simple fishing scene, yet...

In our societies, the idea of generation is often reduced to a static opposition between past and future, between old and new. Instead, it should be seen as a movement, a continuous movement of transfer and evolution of knowledge and human mentalities. In short, this transfer, particularly through filiations (kinship), allows the original to remain original and to continue the human adventure.* What we call the future is, in fact, the result of all these generations interacting.

._________

Here, on these shores far removed from the utopian worlds that fuel the fury of our societies, father and son reconnect with the patience and fundamental modesty of being. Also with the original enchantment in front of the beauty and mystery of our world.

Fishing was a good excuse for this.

Thanks for your visits and comments.

Instead of chasing shorebirds down the beach, sometimes I loop around and let them come to me.

I enjoy it, because standing around is one of my greatest passions. The birds are comfortable with it, because I look a lot like a harmless pylon.

To be envious is unhealthy, it prevents us from moving forward, and it fixates us on what others have, instead of our own dreams and goals that we're supposed to be striving for. It is the cowardly side of hate!

The gallows was erected in 1597 instead of a wooden gallows. The number of people executed is unclear, but there are some indications that relatively few people died there, which is also due to the relatively liberal jurisprudence of the Count House of Erbach. Only one execution in 1746 is documented in the church records, which is considered certain. Johann Adam Beisel from Unter-Sensbach was hanged for theft and adultery. [2] According to the inscription on a memorial stone next to the gallows, the "last execution in 1804, a gypsy woman for stealing a chicken and two loaves of bread" should have taken placeThree red sandstone columns about five meters high were set up so that they form the corners of an equilateral triangle. They carry three crossbars arranged in a triangle, which is why the place of execution is also known as the so-called "three-sleeper gallows". The gallows served the high court of the Oberzent under the rule of the Counts of Erbach; In 1806 they were deprived of their jurisdiction by Napoleonic law, which also ended the right to impose the death penalty. Leaves don't fall, they fly around

slowly and gently to the ground, this leaf instead fell inside a 1 inch of puddle and capted the afternoon sun.

Fly-in fly-out or FIFO refers to people who fly in to a work site temporarily instead of permanently relocating. It's common in large mining areas.

But before God himself, believe me, a little training in humility . . . means more than all the learning in the world. Instead of establishing proofs and drawing conclusions, we will get to see ourselves honestly for what we are and to remain in simplicity before God. What he wants is for the soul to behave like a fool—which is just what it is in his presence.

Instead of diving from above for fish, this young Osprey seemed to be practicing "skimming" along the surface of the water with talons extended and splashing around and having a sip before returning to his branch. Perhaps he was cooling off! Fascinating to watch.

Still digging through the archives instead of taking photos in our 97f heat (36c).

This was a beautiful late evening in late October of 2011 at Lake Lowndes. There just wasn't any color and then, when I got to a particular point on the hike around the lake, there was a joyous bright spot in the midst of a monotony of dull greens and browns. Until then, I had just decided that it was too late and I was just trudging to the car.

As I considered how to post process this, I realized that I had been "Surprised by Joy" and the photo just didn't convey the beauty and joy that I'd experienced so I cut off one of my ear lobes and used a little bit of the blood :-) to pump up the red and soften the image in order to create an impressionistic interpretation of the scene and convey my mood/joy/shock/awe

There is still a lot that I would like to have done better on this photo but I was afraid that pumping up the greens in the background would make things look too gauche. Let me know what you think (good/bad) about my effort at impressionism with the NIK collection.

Female Tiger swallowtails (Papilio glaucus) can be golden yellow or black - this lady nectaring in scarlet milkweed blossoms. Tiger swallowtails are like Common green darners and Cardinals ... if rare instead of common, we would go nuts over every one we photo'd! Tiger's have been scarcer here the past two seasons.

CHRISTMAS STORY of Jesus & John the Baptist in the womb:

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” Luke 1:39-45
