Rainbow Lightning

"Pink Milk Mild," 2011

cushions, blankets, sheets, fabric, lights, and video.

Rainbow Lightning's cavescape inside SPACES recycles objects, clothing, and fabrics to resemble a natural subterranean environment. Personal stories collected over the past year are embroidered on the walls of the cave, like graffiti in a teenager's hideout. The childlike wonder of a plush cave evokes the past that is reflected in the memories delicately sewn to the walls.

"Language Generator" (by Lewis Gesner) has been a solo piece, a duet, and ensemble piece, as well as a public workshop project. It had a duration of anywhere from 6 hours to one week. This is what is done. I enter a gallery space with newsprint paper, markers, scotch tape, and a box of objects. For the duration of the piece, I examine the objects, one at a time, and make a noise to go with it, then, a line or symbol on the paper. I then post the result on the walls. Performance/Installation at Meme gallery, Camb., MA. Photo: ©Bob Raymond, 1/14/11.

This Saturday (11/05/05)we watched Tibetan Buddhist monks craft a mandala from thousands of grains of brightly dyed sand at Union Station.........and they had a deconstructing ceremony where they swept away the mandala that they took 5 days to create.

I took this picture at the 'pinnacle' of the chanting at the deconstructing ceremony....and as this 'head monk' had just finished walking around the table that has the mandala on it. I didnt use flash, so that explains some of the light in the background........ but I dont have an explaination for the arching light around the head monk....but it appears as a reflection in a place that isnt reflective. You can see it that it echos the mandala and the pattern.

Les Colombes (The Doves)

Washington National Cathedral, Washington, DC, May 18, 2021

.

Just before Christmas, German artist Michael Pendry installed the Les Colombes exhibit: a winding column of more than 2,000 origami paper doves in the grand nave of Washington National Cathedral. Symbolizing hope and the Holy Spirit, the doves encourage a feeling of optimism as we end a challenging 2020 and begin a new year. This sculpture is arranged to give new life to our Cathedral, embody our resolve to be kind to our fellow human, and to do our part in making a better tomorrow.

Les Colombes has previously appeared in Salisbury Cathedral in Salisbury, England; St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London; Mount Zion in Jerusalem; Heilig-Geist Viktualienmarkt in Munich; and Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. [cathedral.org/doves/about/]

Andrey Bartenev ’s installation Connection Lost is a glass tunnel, with fifty LED spheres with the words Connection Lost circling in their orbit. A heart inside each sphere symbolizes the potential frustration in the world of virtual connections. At the same time, the very message about lost connections, continues to multiply and reproduces itself with LED letters and mirrors. On the surface, the stage is captivating. With the lights and music mixed together, there is a sense of false happiness. It is a metaphor for the simulative communities that exist to give to give continued hope to a chance of an encounter.
