Collectors of a particular brand of photographica ,from time to time perform a stock-taking of the objects they have acquired . The very common ( and therefore cheap) items are often over-represented . Instead of disposing this superfluous material , one can also try to identify as much differences as possible ; therefore I have invented the INSTAGAME .
In the present case I analysed 5 Instamatic 100 cameras , made in England . This camera was produced from 1963-1966. I noticed variations and visualized them in the picture :
* Different text on the back side of the pop-up flashgun
* Presence or absence of a metal window around the viewer on the front
* Extra text below the opening of the battery compartment
* Different granularity of the black plastic covering
* Different finish of the front : shiny metallic vs ivory lacquered
Found this on the internet, a duke nukem keyring with sound, condoms, chewing gum, 3 stickers a T-shirt. Not seen on picture is the game for ps3, and a set of gift cards.
Camera for the 126 cartridge , made in Germany and England from sept. 1968 - 1973 . The Camerosity code in my oldest German copy is 'YROI' = 05.68 . This precedes the official release date of the camera .
I analysed the differences between the English version (1 copy) and the German versions (11 copies) in my collection . Apart from mentioning the country of manufacturing on the front and on the inside of the back door ( with different typography) I noticed the following other differences :
* Difference in 'sun' symbols on the front.
* Symbol indicator on selection ring around the lens on small or wider base.
* Round internal window of the shutter part on the English and
the earliest German cameras , square in all later German
cameras .
* Announcement of the film type to be used in the English version (twice !) , but not in the German version .
* Presence of 'Camerosity' code in all German copies , not in the English version (not sure what 'LV' means) .
* Lines of extra side panel on English and early German models , in later version smooth surface .

Made from 1965-1969 ,in very large numbers .
Compared with the '104' cameras from Germany , the distance indication on the flashcube socket is not metric but in "FT" . The differences around the flascube release button are presented in Instagame 4 .The following variations were present in the 6 cameras In my collection : with or without text on the film window , short or long metal strip on the battery compartment lid , different relief of the film compartment wall .
Many of the cameras that had been stored for a longer period showed a white 'sticky' staining that could easily be rubbed off .This in all probability is caused by continous diffusion (sweating) of the plasticizers used at that time in making soft plastics . Remarkably , this phenomenon was not present in the cameras made in Germany from the same period .
The camera was made from 1965-1969 . Coe’s book (Kodak cameras- the first hundred years) mentions production in the USA and the UK only , but in Europe the cameras ‘made in Germany ‘ are easy to find .
The 104 Instamatic from England and Germany are largely similar , but differ in details. Based on the analysis of 7 cameras (1 from UK, 6 from Germany) I established the differences as presented in the above picture.
1.Country of origin mentioned on the front plate and on the inside of the back door .
2.Remarkable is that 3 out of 6 cameras with ‘made in Germany’ on the front , had the text ‘made in England ‘on the inside of the back door ,and these doors were similar the the one of the British camera.
3.Distance indication on the socket for the flashcube : ‘1.2-2.7 m’ for the German type , and ‘4 to 9 FT ‘for the British type.
4.The cartridge pressure plate in the back door of German manufacture is small , and the film window shows no text .
5.All German camerabodies showed the ‘camerosity’ code on the inside , none was present in my single UK version .
6.The underside of all back doors of German manufacture show a ridge , all British ones are flat .
7.The covering of the German type has a finer granularity .
