A Hummer H3 (2006-2010) and a Gen1 Honda Insight Hybrid (2000-2006), at the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant somewhere west of Dearborn, Michigan. Just from an EPA fuel economy standpoint at face value, one travels about 4 times as far as the other on the same amount of fuel. Not making a value judgment here. One carries twice as many passengers than the other. Fortunately, there are many more choices available in the field of transportation!

We interrupt our previously scheduled program of photos of historic sites to bring you this human interest story.
I loved my 2001 Saturn. It really broke my heart when GMC discontinued making Saturns. Actually, no. It made and makes me angry that they let that division (and Pontiac and Olds) go and kept the.... Well, you get the idea.
I intended to keep my Saturn until it just wouldn't run. But it was using oil and I got a leak in the radiator. It was just time, I guess. 176,000 miles is a lot of miles.
But none of this explains my stress in buying a new car. Normally I think I could buy a new car everyday without breaking a sweat. But let me write two words and see how you react: car payments. I haven't made car payents in seven (7) years. And money is already tight.
I'm not a new car kind of guy. I don't get a testosterone lift out inhaling the interior of a new automobile, but the (my) Honda Insight is a tech lover's delight. It's a hyrid and has enough engineering thingies behind it to make every operation a fascinating study. Great car so far. Mileage: 43 miles to the gallon and increasing. Update 1/24/11 - 52 miles per gallon.

The latest Design Insights for my years-long project to build the entirety of Imperial Rome are now posted on my Patreon page! These insights cover the VELABRUM; the region of Ancient Rome which sat at a crossroads between the Capitoline and Palatine Hills.
Like the Arch of Janus depicted in the sneak peek rendering, this post marks a turning point in the progression of this project which I first announced on the Kalends of January. It has taken some time to lift off the ground, but the steadfast support of all my patrons has helped me reach a point where the design updates will now be coming fast & furious over the next several weeks of intense design efforts.
I very much still need your support in making this project a reality! It's no stretch to say that this is my most comprehensive - and exciting - project to date. It takes a village to realize any ambitious undertaking, but this is certainly not without its rewards. I encourage you to visit my Patreon page and consider contributing. NASA's InSight lander just hitched a ride to Mars on an Atlas V rocket! ETA: November 26, 2018. This was the first interplanetary mission to leave from California and it was a joy to watch it go! [167/365] Insights in a Christmas tree.
A thing called life stepped in front of my project 365. And I’m glad it did…
The break gave me the chance to look at my project 365 from another viewpoint and I realized that I was on a wrong path.
Some would call my break in this project 365 as a failure. But it all depends on the viewpoint. Sometimes a break can give valuable insights that is the difference between a total failure and a success.
I think I’m back on the right path and it is time to start moving again…
